this document describes the study of an artificial neuron configuration in a dynamically programmable Analogue Signal Processor (dpASP) device with embedded Field programmable Analogue Array (FPAA) technology. the linear and non-linear neurons were studied and investigated with respect to device capacity and time of signal processing. A programmable Analogue Controller (PAC) was used to conduct the research. the in-site investigation shows the features and limitations of the switched capacitor technology as well the advantages of hardware-based analogue signal processing. Graphics processing units have found their way onto the die of embedded CPUs. embedded devices have thus gained access to on-die parallel co-processors that, can be put to good use with the help of the low-level OpenCL standard API, but also using programming frameworks that help making use of this additional compute power. this paper compares several programming frameworks with different coding styles. We report on the coding effort needed and the performance achieved on a Congatec conga-QG embedded computer on a module using two representative codes taken from the SHOO benchmark suite as comparison. the paper deals with Wireless Health Monitoring System. It presents a prototype of a medical system which consist of a Wireless Health Monitoring Device and a base station in the form of a smartphone. the presented system enables to monitor ambient and human body conditions. Current health monitoring market conditions and available devices are discussed. the issues relating to the population in Europe and its impact on the health monitoring market are considered. the paper presents review of wireless communication systems currently available on the market. the information presented in this paper may help develop portable, low-power and wearable devices. this paper presents a new current programmable active element called Modified Current Differencing Transconductance Amplifier (MCDTA). the parameters of the circuit - input resistance and transconductance - can be tuned by control currents. the circuit with several external components - diodes and grounded capacitors - makes it possible to build basic analog circuits: first order and second order tunable active filters, rectifiers, peak detectors and others. this paper discusses a universal biquad filter based on the MCDTA with different tuning capabilities. the simulation results show that it can be used as a part of a programmable analog signal processing system. In this paper we present a convenient technique for transferring small amounts of data to resource-constrained embedded devices. the concept is based on utilizing a mobile phone with a dedicated application to transfer data to one or more embedded devices by using solely the display amid visible light as a medium. the presented solution requires very low computational power and its hardware cost is insignificant, thus can be utilized in very low power and resource constrained devices. the described subsystem can be used to provide means of very convenient and relatively secure transfer of initial configuration for wireless sensor network motes, of things (loT) entities, or smart borne appliances. embedded systems design process focuses on three areas: modeling, validation and implementation. Typically such procedure assumes constant number of tasks in every instance of designing procedure. thus the designer must predict all possible tasks executed by the system. Serious problems appear when the system has to execute unexpected tasks. In this case the design process must, be repeated. We propose a new approach in embedded system design process which covers such situation. In the approach unexpected tasks arc assigned to previously allocated resources. therefore the system can execute more tasks that were predicted by the designer. the paper discusses the design process of a programmable logic controller implemented by means of FPGA device. Designed PLC is to be compliant with EN 61131-3 standard. Different aspects of instruction list and hardware architecture designing are presented. e.g. PLC structure with particular emphasis on central processing unit or memory map. Conclusions on an EN 61131-3 Standard are also shown. the developed PLC is implemented using FPGA device. this gives opportunity to develop interesting solutions. For example, using dual port RAM gives us opportunity to develop bit/word access without necessity of masking bits. Up to date FPGA devices have also disadvantage - there arc no tri-state buffers inside. this is the reason for using multiplexers that control traffic on busses. the paper deals with the methodology of creation of sequential control system programs in the language of function block diagrams (FBD). After analyzing basic blocks of the sequential functions chart (SFC) language, the form of state block and implementation of branching or connecting paths of sequences are formulated using the FBD language. It is a simplification of the application of the SFC language. Our method of creating the sequential system ensures a compact form of the final program and is particularly useful for small PLC controllers. the method is illustrated by example of the simple sequential control system. the recent spectacular progress in the microelectronic, information, communication, material and sensor technologies created a big stimulus towards development of much more sophisticated, coherent and fit to use, smart communicating cyber-physical systems (CPS). the huge and rapidly developing markets of the modern CPS represent great opportunities for both private enterprises and country economies. However, these opportunities come with a price of unusual systems complexity. as well as, stringent and difficult to satisfy requirements of the modern CPS applications. Specifically, numerous mobile and autonomous CPS applications require a. o. a guaranteed (ultra-)high performance or (ultra-)low energy consumption, as well as, a high reliability, safety and security. To adequately address these problems and overcome the related challenges a sophisticated embedded computing and embedded design technologies are needed. After a brief introduction to modern CPS and consideration of several serious challenges of their design, this paper discusses the embedded computing technology needed for the modern complex and highly-demanding mobile and autonomous CPS.
