the article presents a simulation framework designed to support development of ultra-low duty cycle mobile ad-hoc network applications. In particular a railway vehicle monitoring system is considered, that is equipped with devices allowing cargo localization In addition to GPS and GSM connectivity. a local radio network connection is added allowing aggregation of localization data from multiple nodes into a single node's GSM transmission in order to minimize energy consumption A simulation model developed for studying network behavior and performance is presented, that allows to directly run the target code inside the simulator, features a sufficient clock drift model as well as detailed energy consumption profiling. the article provides model verification results and discusses it's future application. Visible light communication (VLC) has been recently proposed as an alternative standard to radio-based wireless networks. Because of its physical characteristics, and in line with the slogan "what you see is what you send", VLC is considered a secure communication method. In this work we focus on security aspects of VLC communication, starting from basic physical characteristics of the communication channel. We analyze the risks of signal jamming, data snooping and modification. We also discuss MAC-level security mechanisms as defined in the ieee 802.15.7 standard. Explosions in coal mines are considered a feared danger to miners and a to mine itself. the combination of an accumulated methane and a coal dust causes unexpected explosions. this contribution presents an electronic device, that detects an explosion and initiates impulse for a following system actuator for minimizing;the explosion impact. the paper introduces internal description of detection device, risk analysis and fault tree analysis. the fault tree analysis is simulated in A.L.D. RAM Commander. We present an experimental result set of laboratory tests and also testing in a real explosion of methane and coal dust mixture conditions. the article describes results of the research in the area of remote patient monitoring. We present innovative architecture of our data acquisition module as well as design decision we made during our work. the module is implemented as a mobile application executed on top of Android OS. the modular and open architecture of the application and the unified measurement processing gives opportunity for easy integration with new medical devices. the proposed installation and pairing process simplifies the configuration of the mobile application which is important in this type of systems. In addition, our solution takes part in the pilot studies and was successfully used by practitioners in the treatment process of patients with cardiovascular diseases. the paper describes the high level abstract SystemC model of the multitask real time system. the authors put their main effort to obtain the highly time predictable system. the time predictability of real time embedded, electronic systems is identified and a concise survey of various approaches to the problem arc given. the architecture of a single pipeline processor core with thread interleaving mechanism is emphasized. the scheduling algorithms that enable optimal utilization of the processing units arc illustrated on examples. the main memory access control unit and the original memory system organization arc described. Many simulation experiments conducted with single and multi-core system architecture implementation, allow obtaining results that prove advantages of the presented model. the paper presents the Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU) of a prototype programmable Logic Controller (PLC), implemented in an FPGA device. the PLC implements on the machine language level a subset of the instruction set defined in the EN 61131-3 norm. the design was prepared as a set of synthesizable Verilog. and VHDL models. the ALU can execute 32 operations, which include the basic logic operations, comparators. and the four basic arithmetic operations. the operations can be performed for fixed-point, and floating-point numbers. All the operations are implemented fully in hardware, so the solution is fast. the HDL models used for synthesis can be easily ported to other FPGA architectures, or to an ASIC. the paper presents an enhanced architecture of finite impulse response digital filters. the proposed architecture contains one multiply-accumulate unit and random access men-wiry to store data. the architecture utilizes serial calculation to achieve minimum requirements on area. Time architecture is suitable for implementation in application specific integrated circuits and field programmable gate arrays. the main advantages of the architecture are higher operating frequency, lower power consumption and smaller area utilization in particular cases. Visible light communication (VLC) has been recently proposed as an alternative standard to radio-based wireless networks. Originally developed as a physical media for PANs (Personal area Networks) it evolved into universal WLAN technology with a capability to transport internet suite of network and application level protocols. Because of its physical characteristics, and in line with the slogan "what you see is what you send", VLC is considered a secure communication method. In this work we focus on security aspects of VLC communication, starting from basic physical characteristics of the communication channel. We analyze the risks of signal jamming, data snooping and data modification. We also discuss MAC-level security mechanisms as defined in the ieee 802.15.7 standard. this paper is an extension of work originally reported in Proceedings of the 13th ifac and ieee conference on programmable devices and embedded systems - PDES 2015.

In this paper, problems arising during design of embedded real-time system (ERTS) are addressed. Features of applied hardware and software components imply additional requirements to be considered during scheduling. Formulation and toolset description for the problem of scheduling of data exchange over bus with centralized control is presented. Formulation of the joint scheduling problem is presented as long as proposed scheduling algorithm.

this paper describes a method of designing a computational system with the minimal number of processors. Strict execution deadlines apply, as well as restrictions on the reliability of the system that imply the tolerance of the system to both hardware and software faults. the problem is formulated mathematically, an algorithm of solution based on simulated annealing is described, and experimental results are shown.
