In recent years, the topic of embedded machine learning has become very popular in AI research. With the help of various compression techniques such as pruning, quantization and others compression techniques, it became possible to run neural networks on embedded devices. these techniques have opened up a whole new application area for machine learning. they range from smart products such as voice assistants to smart sensors that are needed in robotics. Despite the achievements in embedded machine learning, efficient algorithms for training neural networks in constrained domains are still lacking. Training on embedded devices will open up further fields of applications. Efficient training algorithms would enable federated learning on embedded devices, in which the data remains where it was collected, or retraining of neural networks in different domains. In this paper, we summarize techniques that make training on embedded devices possible. We first describe the need and requirements for such algorithms. then we examine existing techniques that address training in resource-constrained environments as well as techniques that are also suitable for training on embedded devices, such as incremental learning. At the end, we also discuss which problems and open questions still need to be solved in these areas.

this paper deals with proprietary communication protocols that are implemented in the MikroTik RouterOS operating system. these communication protocols are specially designed for remote management of embedded systems that run with this operating system. these protocols are closed and thus they have not a publicly accessible documentation. In this paper the principles of their functions that are identified on the basis of realized communication analyses are described. Security risks that are associated with the use of these communication protocols are also analyzed in the paper. Attack that uses conceptual bug in the design one of these communication protocols is demonstrated on a real example. Full and unlimited access to embedded system that runs with this operating system can be obtained with this attack.

the goal of this paper is to present the possibilities of energy harvesting using the modern components called energy management systems. these circuits are integral parts of modern energy harvesting systems and are responsible for management of power supply, energy storage and flow of energy between individual components. this paper focuses on the E-PEAS AEM10940 circuit. It is a small device usable for low power embedded systems. thus, its basic characteristic and properties obtained by repeated short-term and long-term measurements are presented and evaluated. Sensing and measuring of accelerations is the basic technique in dynamics investigations. Most of the existent accelerometers are stand alone sensors providing analog voltage to the o utput or thesystem in package sensors that provides the accelerations at the most 14 bits on a serial interface. In this paper we present an original design for an embedded system which is able to compute the speed and position based on signals for 3-axis accelerations from analog sensors. the proposed solution meets the requirements of a high resolution, in particularly on 16 bits, using an 8 bit RISC processor. the particularity of our solution consists in locally computing on the same processor unit of the six additional kinematic parameters which usually are performed in a distinct post processing stage on a separate computing unit. this paper also presents a study on the response time evaluation based on the time consume for specific tasks on the proposed architecture. © ifac.

Localization in an indoor environment is a challenging aspect of an autonomous mobile robot control as such mobile systems typically have limited computational capacity. It is therefore essential to design an algorithm capable of reliable robot's position calculation and, at the same time, suitable for implementation in embedded devices. this contribution describes a modified point-to-point Scan Matching algorithm based on cross correlation, which was first introduced in our previous study. the newly developed algorithm running in a single thread is implemented in C language and decreases the computational complexity, i.e. time needed for calculation of the robot's position, by as much as 20% compared to the original solution implemented in C#. this paper deals with closed control loop implementation for robot single axis with DC motor on FPGA platform. Controlling algorithm is designed in Matlab/Simulink environment and its Custom Toolbox is specifically designed for the purpose of control structures development in real time. Torque is calculated on FPGA structure and brought to a motor which generates necessary PMW. On the motor axis is a pendulum which follows default trajectory. It is a stream of data obtained by calculating or recording robot axis position while moving it manually. Experimental results are also provided.

this paper describes implementation of the Dynamic Matrix Control (DMC) algorithm using a microcontroller with the ARM Cortex R5 core. Two versions of the DMC algorithm are considered: the classical one and the simplified one. It is shown that the latter one needs much shorter calculation time, but give the same control quality. Moreover, the influence of tuning parameters of the DMC algorithm on the calculation time is studied experimentally. the obtained implementation of the DMC algorithm can be used in very fast embedded system, with short sampling periods. Results of real experiment are demonstrated for Hercules RM57L843 LaunchPad board from Texas Instruments. (C) 2018, ifac (International Federation of Automatic Control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd. In this paper a perception system of a mobile robot is proposed and implemented combining a LiDAR sensor with a colour camera. Localisation of unknown objects in an a priori known environment and their classification is required in order for the robot to safely and reliably navigate the working area. To this end, a pipeline is proposed to process and fuse the LiDAR 3D point-cloud data with a monocular colour camera image classifications yielding precisely localised 3D detections with class designations. the proposed pipeline is designed to run on limited computational power embedded platforms in the ROS 2 environment, and has been tested on a robotic testbench.
