Popularity of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is increasing day a day where hundreds or thousands of applications are explored. In most of such applications, the need of gathering data periodically about the monitored environment beside the limited, generally irreplaceable, power sensor sources make energy conservation and big data gathering reduction two fundamental challenges in such networks. In this paper, we propose an Adaptive distributed Data Gathering (ADiDaG) technique for saving energy in periodic WSN applications. ADiDaG works into rounds where each round consists of three phases: data gathering, sampling decision, and transmission. these phases respectively use Map reduce, longest common subsequence similarity and grouping approach in order to search data redundancy and adapt sensor sampling rate at each round. the performance of ADiDaG is evaluated based on both simulation and experimentations where the obtained results show significant energy savings and high accurate data gathering compared to existing approaches. © 2017 IEEE.

the improvement of file access performance is a great challenge in real-time cloud services. In this paper, we analyze preconditions of dealing with this problem considering the aspects of requirements, hardware, software, and network environments in the cloud. then we describe the design and implementation of a novel distributed layered cache system built on the top of the Hadoop distributed File System which is named HDFS-based distributed Cache System (HDCache). the cache system consists of a client library and multiple cache services. the cache services are designed with three access layers an in-memory cache, a snapshot of the local disk, and the actual disk view as provided by HDFS. the files loading from HDFS are cached in the shared memory which can be directly accessed by a client library. Multiple applications integrated with a client library can access a cache service simultaneously. Cache services are organized in the P2P style using a distributed hash table. Every file cached has three replicas in different cache service nodes in order to improve robustness and alleviates the workload. Experimental results show that the novel cache system can store files with a wide range in their sizes and has the access performance in a millisecond level in highly concurrent environments.

Nowadays, database systems are one of the most popular and essential software programs in computer systems. Many computers are installed a database system and users maybe want to use these database systems as one system. the multi-database system is one of the solutions to this request. the multi-database system is a kind of the distributed database system. It is a cluster of independent database systems. As the distributed database system, the multi-database system has some problems. One of these problems is data migration among individual database systems in the multi-database system. Many reorganization techniques for distributed database systems already proposed. But these techniques are not always adaptive to the data migration in the multidatabase system. In order to overcome this problem, we adapt the incremental scheme to the data migration in the multidatabase system. In our new scheme, a large data migration operation is divided into small ones, and other operations are inserted between them. the experimental result proves the improvement of the turn-around times of other operations. © 2012 IEEE.

Industrial IoT networks are typically used for monitoring systems and supporting control loops, as well as for movement detection systems, process control and factory automation. To this end, data generated by monitoring IoT devices are collected, elaborated and sent to controllers and actuators. the routing of data from IoT sensors to actuators is an integral part of any large-scale industrial network for maintaining critical delay requirements. Centralised schemes are typically used, whereby data are transferred to a central network controller, from where they are accessed by any other node requiring them. this may result in significant overheads and suboptimal resource consumption. In this paper, we propose a distributed, cooperative Data Management Layer (DML), whereby nodes cooperate to store data within the network. the DML is decoupled yet interacts with the underlying Network Plane. Specifically, given a set of data, the sets of nodes generating and requesting them, and a maximum access delay that requesting nodes can tolerate, the DML efficiently identifies a limited set of proxies in the network where data are stored. Given the mentioned constraints, we investigate the (computationally difficult) problem of finding which network nodes to select as proxies and we propose a simple method to address it. We demonstrate that the proposed method (i) guarantees that access delay stays below the given threshold, and (ii) significantly outperforms centralised and even distributed approaches, both in terms of access latency and in terms of maximum latency guarantees.

In the cloud computing era, the goal of data center network is not only to interconnect a large number of servers, but also to provide low latency and high bandwidth. A new 2-layer architecture, C-tree, is proposed for cloud computing in this paper. It is a flat topology, in which the horizontal traffic's latency is obviously lower than that in traditional three-layer architectures. Also, C-tree can provide high bisection bandwidth which is important for bandwidth-intensive applications. We analyze C-tree theoretically and compare it with other architectures in scalability, accommodation capability, network diameter, bisection bandwidth, path diversity and regularity. We have developed a load balancing routing mechanism to balance the traffic on the parallel links. A network simulation platform is set up to verify the performance of C-tree.

For unconditionally reliable message transmission (URMT) in synchronous directed networks of n nodes, a subset of which may be malicious, it is well-known that the minimum connectivity requirements for zero-error (perfect) protocols to exist is strictly higher than those where a negligible yet non-zero error probability is allowed (Monte Carlo protocols) [12]. In this work, we study the minimum connectivity requirements for the existence of (a) synchronous Las Vegas, (b) asynchronous Monte Carlo, and (c) asynchronous Las Vegas protocols for URMT. Interestingly, we prove that in any network, a synchronous Las Vegas URMT protocol exists if and only if an asynchronous Monte Carlo URMT protocol exists too. We further show that in any network, an asynchronous Las Vegas URMT protocol exists if and only if a synchronous perfect protocol exists as well. thus, our results establish an interesting interplay between (im)perfectness, synchrony and connectivity for the case of URMT. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Connectivity in vehicular networks is continuously changing due to high mobility of vehicles, causing rapid changes in the network topology. this has a direct negative impact on the throughput and packet transmission delay. Many algorithms and approaches have been proposed to address this problem. However, most of them are not practical due to their dependence on a centralized infrastructure, which are attributed with high cost for installation and maintenance. Vehicular networks are composed of all types of vehicles including autonomous and non-autonomous vehicles. In this paper, we propose addressing the problem of VANET connectivity through controlling the routes and speed of autonomous vehicles according to the density and speed of non-autonomous vehicles. this is achieved through a decentralized cooperative game theory approach that provides a balance between autonomous vehicles' trip duration, and enhancements to the VANET connectivity. We evaluate our proposed approach through extensive simulations using real traffic data, and observe substantial enhancements of up to 46% in the network connectivity using our approach.

Explicit model-checking (MC) is a classical solution to find flaws in a security protocol. But it is well-known that for non trivial protocols, MC may enumerate state-spaces of astronomical sizes-the famous state-space explosion problem. distributed model checking is a solution but complex and subject to bugs: a MC can validate a model but miss an invalid state. In this paper, we focus on using a verification condition generator that takes annotated distributed algorithms and ensures their termination and correctness. We study five algorithms (one sequential and four distributed where three of them are dedicated and optimised for security protocol) of state-space construction as a first step towards mechanised verification of distributed model-checkers.

With the continuous development of GPUs, modern general-purpose computation on GPUs (GPGPUs) is providing growing parallelism to general programs besides graphics applications. However, for those programs that involve both CPU and GPU, the data transmission bandwidth between them may become bottleneck that prevents GPU from fully exploiting its parallel computing capacity. As to avoid the defect, we try to reduce the data transmission by keeping part of the computation tasks on the CPU side other than sending all the data over to the GPU and process there. In this way the computation is done on CPU and GPU in parallel, and therefore also reduces overall process time. In order to split the computation workload in a systematic approach, we try to divide the corresponding data into chunks of proper size. We experimented our data dividing and heterogeneous memory scheduling with 2 benchmarks. the matrix multiplication is more than 30% faster, and the k - means2D is nearly 10% faster, than running solely in GPU.

D-ReServE increases reliability of SOA-based systems in case of failure occurrence. the fault-tolerant information in D-ReServE is stored in the Stable Storage, which available space depletes with time. thus, in this paper we propose a garbage collection protocol for D-ReServE that allows the periodic purging of the Stable Storage, and discuss the challenges of garbage collection due to the nature of SOA systems.
