the Proteus effect is a psychological and physical change caused by the perception of an avatar as a substitute for oneself in a VR space. In our previous study, we showed that not only VR space but also an avatar projected on a two-dimensional display reduced subjective fatigue during squatting exercise. In this paper, we investigate whether physical fatigue during squatting exercise changes in addition to subjective fatigue by measuring surface EMG. In addition, we explore the influence on the Proteus effect when the subject selects an avatar that is 'close to the ideal avatar' for himselflherself. the avatar conditions were 'muscular,' 'non-muscular,' and 'no avatar (own appearance),' and we prepared and compared a group of subjects who selected the ideal body shape and a group of subjects who did not select the ideal body shape. Our findings showed that, in the group that did not select the avatar condition, the subjective fatigue level was significantly lower in the muscular avatar condition than in the other conditions, as in the previous study. On the other hand, there was no significant difference in physical fatigue between the two groups. this suggests that the use of muscular avatar, instead of selecting the ideal avatar, results in less subjective fatigue and is as effective as other training. © 2024 IEEE.

Fetal Growth Restriction (FGR) is an obstetric and gynecological disease, resulting in low fetal weight at gestational age. It causes fetal growth delay during gestation and increases the risk of prenatal and postnatal health problems. Recently, some studies have reported that fetal growth is related to placental oxygenation that can be visualized using BOLD MRI. the BOLD MRI image analysis using machine learning requires the placental region mask, but its manual annotation requires a heavy burden on experts. In this paper, we apply image registration in 2D+t images to reduce the annotation workload from 2D+t times to one time, and extract statistical image features in the auto-annotated placental regions to validate the image features related to the clinical data of FGR and non-FGR patients. the experiment on BOLD MRI of 8 FGR and 15 non-FGR patients showed that the proposed method recognized the placental region in dice coefficient of 0.779. Experiments using the extracted feature analysis found the correlation to the clinical data in placental weight and fetal birth weight. From these results, the proposed method is expected to be used for the evaluation of placental oxygenation and FGR diagnosis. © 2024 IEEE.

Traditional inspection methods for contact lenses primarily involved manual examination, where workers directly assessed the physical properties and manufacturing defects of the lenses. Consequently, the quality determination relied on the workers' judgment, leading to inconsistencies. In order to address this issue, although Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) was introduced, it has limitations in applying to various types of contact lenses. As part of research to utilize deep learning in AOI, this paper introduces a You Only Look Once (YOLO) v9-based contact lens inspection technique that leverages a small dataset of contact lens images. this method involves training YOLO v9 with the limited number of images that include various defects such as bubbles, cracks, and foreign particles, as well as images of defect-free contact lenses. © 2024 IEEE.

Classifying lung nodules as benign or malignant using CT images is crucial for the diagnosis of early-stage lung cancer and can significantly enhance survival rates. this paper proposes a method for extracting and classifying features of lung nodules through self-supervised encoder learning and supervised transfer learning to improve the distinguishing characteristics of lung nodules. Initially, the extracted nodule patches are perturbed to generate two corresponding augmented patches, which are utilized to learn global features using a contrastive learning network. Subsequently, one of the augmented patches is divided into non-overlapping segments and masked with a random mask. Reconstruction learning captures fine-grained local features through the reconstruction task. Furthermore, adversarial training directs the reconstruction learning process to yield more realistic information. Finally, the parameters of the pre-trained encoder are employed in a supervised classification task to categorize nodules as malignant or benign. Validation of the proposed method on the public LIDC-IDRI dataset demonstrates an accuracy of 89.0%, representing a 5.5% improvement over the state-of-the-art method. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper proposes a method to implement an 3-dof stabilization device by combining a neural network with a PID controller. First, hardware was designed based on the Inverted Delta Robot structure. this platform, equipped with three servo motors and an IMU sensor, is suggested as a real-time stabilization platform. Second, using servo motors with limited angular movement, real-time data on Roll and Pitch angles were collected. third, the collected data were preprocessed, and a neural network model with the ReLU function as the activation function was trained. Fourth, the trained model was used to output stabilization error values to the PID controller, maintaining the device's balance. this study demonstrates the potential of combining neural networks with PID controllers for stabilization devices. Future research will require experiments in various industrial environments, sensor integration, and neural network optimization. © 2024 IEEE.

Ataxia is caused by brain damage such as stroke or head trauma, and the muscles become unable to work in a coordinated manner even though there is no paralysis or loss of consciousness. A symptom of ataxia is tremor, which is an involuntary, rhythmic, vibratory movement. Such tremors affect daily movements and work, leading to a decrease in quality of life (QOL). Effective rehabilitation and identification of symptoms and disorders are important for improving such symptoms. However, in the Nose-Finger Test, which is one of the tests performed by physical therapists, there are concerns that the inter-rater reliability and clinical services will decrease because the evaluation is subjective. In addition, virtual reality (VR) equipment has developed in recent years and has become more common in our lives. Accordingly, VR rehabilitation is being developed. therefore, in this study, we used the VR Nose-Finger Test, analyzed the frequency at the time of measurement to extract features depending on the presence of symptoms are present, and performed discrimination using machine learning to evaluate the effectiveness. As a result, differences depending on the presence of symptoms were observed from the frequency, and the effectiveness of machine learning judgment was demonstrated. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper analyzes and compares the factors influencing the use of public bicycles in Seoul's 'Ttareungi' and New York's 'Citi Bike,' which operate within distinct cultural, environmental, and regional contexts, enabling a unique comparative study. A multiple regression analysis and a random forest analysis were performed using rental history data from both 'Ttareungi' and 'Citi Bike' as dependent variables. Independent variables included environmental factors such as weather and seasonal conditions. this study assesses the impact of these factors on bicycle usage behavior. Analysis results highlighted the significant influence of seasonal changes and weekend/holiday variables on public bicycle usage. Although both models yielded significant results, the random forest analysis demonstrated better accuracy and revealed distinct patterns in the importance of certain variables. the variation in coefficient values and variable importance between the two areas indicates that while environmental factors similarly affect bicycle usage patterns, regional climatic conditions have distinct influences. this paper proposes that incorporating variables such as personal and economic characteristics in future research could further enhance the analysis and help to develop strategies to promote public bicycle use. © 2024 IEEE.

the traffic flow model of cellular automata (CA) theory has attracted the attention of many researchers because of its simple model and easy realization on computer. In this paper, firstly, a comprehensive review of traffic flow CA theory;secondly, the application and development of CA in single lane, and multi-lane traffic flow modeling are summarized. thirdly, the current development of traffic flow CA in special application scenarios is reviewed. Finally, combined with the development of intelligent transportation and intelligent connected vehicles, the modeling of traffic flow CA is prospected. the results show that for the single-lane CA model, considering the slow start rule, the static vehicle starts slowly under the same density, and the traffic flow of the slow start model is smaller than that of the NaSch model. For the multi-lane model, the improved multi-lane model makes great use of road resources, and greatly improves the speed and flow of traffic flow. For special scenarios such as bottleneck sections in traffic or heterogeneous traffic flow, the traffic flow cellular automata model has some drawbacks. this paper is the first to summarize the development and application of traffic flow CA in special application scenarios, which provides a good reference for the subsequent application research of other special scenarios. © 2024 Proceedings of the 13th international conference on Logistics and systems engineering. this paper presents an examination of data engineering within intelligent Transportation systems (ITS), focusing on integrating advanced technologies such as Real-Time Databases (RT-DBs), Graph Databases (GDBs), and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve ITS capabilities. the decision to focus on database systems and AI in this paper is based on their crucial roles in shaping modern transportation systems and offers a comprehensive view of the technological framework influencing ITS. through an extensive review of existing literature, the paper explores how these solutions synergistically contribute to data collection, organization, processing, and extraction of value from various ITS data. the paper analyzes the transformative impact of real-time data management in connected vehicle systems and the efficacy of GDBs in capturing complex relationships within intelligent transportation networks. Additionally, it assesses the adaptability of AI in various ITS applications, including traffic prediction, driver assistance, and accident analysis. Despite their benefits, the paper discusses persistent challenges related to system complexity, interoperability, data management, and model accuracy, which impact the widespread deployment of ITS. Furthermore, the paper presents recommendations for addressing these challenges and emphasizes research directions that require further exploration, underscoring the importance of intelligent and efficient transportation worldwide. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – Science and Technology Publications, Lda.
