In recent years, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) and transurethral lithotripsy (TUL) have become the primary treatments for ureteral stones. ESWL is less physically burdensome than TUL and requires a shorter treatment period, but its success rate is lower compared to TUL. therefore, selecting the appropriate treatment method in clinical practice is essential. this study aims to reduce the physical and financial burden on patients by predicting the outcomes of ESWL, thereby minimizing the need for dual treatments. In this study, stratified sampling was performed on the features examined in previous studies and combined with oversampling by SMOTE to assess the impact on the prediction accuracy of ESWL outcomes. As a result, we confirmed that stratified sampling and SMOTE improved prediction accuracy. © 2024 IEEE.

this study focuses on behavior patterns, which are characteristic actions common to groups or communities, to promote intercultural understanding. Understanding greeting gestures is crucial for comprehending social relationships, but these vary across cultures and regions. Recent advancements in sensing technology and artificial intelligence, such as RGB-D cameras and markerless motion capture systems, have made it easier to capture motion data in diverse formats. therefore, it is important to extract relevant motion patterns and apply appropriate structuring for effective long-term archiving. We propose a method for extracting motion patterns using a Growing Neural Gas (GNG) algorithm with a Spiking Neuron Model. Additionally, this paper presents an experimental example of extracting a gesture pattern in Indonesian style. © 2024 IEEE.

Clustering is a type of unsupervised learning, which can be broadly classified into static and dynamic methods. Whole time-series clustering, one of the dynamic methods, is performed on multiple time-series data and classifies them. However, few whole time-series clustering methods take into account the fact that the clusters belonging to each time-series data change with time. therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a method to adapt static clustering methods to whole time-series clustering that takes into account the time variation of cluster classification. Specifically, we propose a method to perform static clustering for each time point of time-series data, embed a relationship graph consisting of clusters at each time point into a vector space, and perform time-series clustering by analyzing relationships among clusters at different time points. For embedding the graph into the vector space, we use DeepWalk, a method based on random walk. Numerical experiments are then conducted to verify the behavior of the proposed method. © 2024 IEEE.

this study proposed a novel extraction method of c-Fos protein regions in DAB(3,3'-diaminobenzidine)-stained mouse brain slice images using the U-Net model combined with the multi-channelization and 1×1 convolution techniques. Our U-Net m odel, called 1× 1 conv U-Net, was applied to three DAB- strainedmouse slice images whose resolutions were 1000x1000 pixels. the experimental results demonstrated that the 1×1 conv U-Net outperformed the conventional U-Net. © 2024 IEEE.

Collecting consistent human demonstrations has been a problematic issue in the field of a learning from demonstration. this paper presents a twin dual-arm robot testbed to collect human demonstration data while performing manual tasks in the activities of daily livings such as opening/closing a window, opening-up/closing-down a sauce bottle cap, etc. the testbed consists of the two sets of a dual-arm robot;for each robot, one-side arm has 6-DoF with a crab-gripper as its hand. Two dual-arm robots are mounted at the front and back of a table-type station. A human operator performs actions to complete a given task with the one at the back;the human operator's actions, meanwhile, are duplicated by the other robot at the front simultaneously. the experimental results show the testbed's potential to gather consistent human demonstration data for training a machine learning agent to manipulate the dual-arm robot under an imitation learning framework. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, the field of I'CT education has emerged, and the research and development of educational support robots has attracted significant interest. In this study, we focus on a perplexity estimation method for educational support robots that estimates perplexity based on learners' facial expressions. the conventional method for estimating perplexion from facial expressions at a given time is not yet sufficiently accurate. It is believed that the accuracy of the method can be improved by using not only facial expressions at a given time but also time-series data on changes in facial expressions between that time and the previous time. this study focuses on a perplexion estimation method for educational support robots that estimates perplexion based on the facial expressions of learners. the objective of this study is to verify the accuracy of the spatio-temporal perplexion estimation method through simulation experiments. © 2024 IEEE.

this study addresses the challenge of manual soldering skill evaluation and transfer in the context of small and medium-sized enterprises where automation is less prevalent. Recognizing the limitations of current single-factor evaluation models, which primarily consider the soldering iron holding method, this research aims to develop a multifactor evaluation model incorporating additional aspects of the soldering process. the proposed model includes the general theory of time spent in soldering, focusing on the heating time of the base metal and the solder melting time as key factors. By integrating these statistical characteristics into a fuzzy inference model, alongside the traditional factor of soldering iron handling, a more comprehensive evaluation approach is achieved. this multifaceted model allows for a nuanced assessment of soldering skills and proposes improvement methods. Future work will involve verifying the model's accuracy with larger data sets and developing a system to facilitate skill evaluation and knowledge transfer, addressing the industry's labor shortage and the decline in skilled workers. © 2024 IEEE.

Wind energy is the primary source of electricity, which is environmentally friendly. the wind turbine helps to generate wind energy, and the blades used in wind turbines play a vital role because the rotation of the turbine depends on the gubbins that are used to manufacture the blades. Hence while selecting gubbins it is necessary to give more weightage to particular features like density, tensile strength, stiffness, costs, environmental resistance, etc., the relative importance of alternatives concerning criteria may not be precise in general. So the formulation in terms of fuzzy logic is required to make it precise. therefore this study carries out the selection of gubbins for wind turbine blades using one of the Fuzzy Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methods. Fuzzy Weighted Aggregated Sum Product Assessment (Fuzzy WASPAS) is one of the decision-making (MCDM) methods that combines the Fuzzy Weighted Sum Model (Fuzzy WSM) and Fuzzy Weighted Product Model (Fuzzy WPM) and gives the aggregated value. this method uses unclear data and solves the problem by finding the best alternatives. © 2024 IEEE.

In modern wireless communication systems using multiple antenna elements, accurately identifying the signals contained in the received signal is very important. Conventional signal number estimation algorithms operate for the entire set of antenna elements, resulting in high computational complexity. In order to enhance this high computational complexity problem, this paper proposes beamspace based Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and Minimum Description Length (MDL) algorithms based on a concentric circular array (CCA) antenna for efficient signal number estimation. In addition, computer simulation results are presented to evaluate the signal-number estimation performance of the proposed algorithm. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to a strong heterogeneity between two signals, it is often a challenging problem to obtain an analytical model between brain signals and joint movements. this paper proposes an approach to predicting joint movement from electrocorticography via a convolutional neural network. First, spectrogram images were obtained in sequence from the measured ECoG of an ape by sliding a time-window. Next, the corresponding joint movement of the ape was extracted from video recording by applying DeepLabCut. Finally, the spectrogram images and the joint movement were utilized as an input and a desired output to train the convolutional neural network, respectively. the result showed the feasibility of the proposed approach to model a relationship between the electrocorticography and the joint movements. © 2024 IEEE.
