software-defined networking (SDN) has emerged as a promising approach for managing network infrastructure through a centralized controller. However, the dynamic nature of SDN makes it susceptible to security threats, including DoS and DDoS attacks. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) based on machine learning (ML) can efficiently detect and mitigate these attacks. this study compares two ML models, namely support vector machines (SVM) and artificial neural networks (ANN), for intelligent intrusion detection in SDN. To assess the performance of the ML models, we utilized the NSL-KDD dataset, with a specific emphasis on DDoS attacks, and compared their accuracy (Acc), precision, recall, and F1-score metrics. the implementation outcomes show that SVM is better than ANN regarding response time and Acc. (c) 2023 the Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, face-to-face interactions were particularly limited in hospitals and elderly care facilities. Although telecommunication environments are increasing, they are mainly limited to audio and visual communication. Tactile sensation, which can act on emotions, is difficult to convey through telecommunication environments. therefore, it is essential to use tactile senses as well as audiovisual senses to achieve 'warm' communication. this study proposes an arm-mounted tactile presentation device consisting of several rollers. We focus on designing 'pulling' and 'stroking' motions among various tactile representations and conducted preliminary experiments of 'pulling' motions. the experimental results show that the proposed device can convey pulling sensations from various directions. © 2024 IEEE.

Polyps are unusual growths in colon or rectum and can develop into colorectal cancer (CRC). the precise segmentation of polyps in medical images is crucial for early diagnosis and effective treatment planning. Traditional approaches rely heavily on manual delineation by radiologists, a method that is time-consuming and prone to variability. Consequently, there is growing interest in leveraging deep learning technologies to automate and improve segmentation process. In this paper, we introduce Strategic Tri-Attention ResNet (StarNet), an innovative approach designed to enhance polyp segmentation through a multi-scale attention mechanism. Our comprehensive experimental evaluations reveal that StarNet surpasses many classic methods with good performance in polyp segmentation tasks, especially in capturing detailed boundary features. By integrating multi-scale attention mechanisms, StarNet provides a promising solution for precise and efficient polyp segmentation, ultimately contributing to better clinical outcomes in CRC diagnosis and treatment. © 2024 IEEE.

Fuzzy c-means (FCM) is the most fundamental fuzzy clustering algorithm for vectorial data, and several variants have been proposed, including the q-divergence based FCM, Yang-type FCM, and extended q-divergence-based FCM. However, only the Yang-type fuzzification technique has been applied to fuzzy c-directions (FCD) clustering for spherical data. In this regard, two fuzzy clustering algorithms were investigated for fuzzy c-directions. the two algorithms are q-divergence based FCD and extended q-divergence-based FCD, which are constructed by replacing the object-cluster dissimilarity used in the q -divergence- based FCM and extended q -divergence- based FCM respectively, with that in the FCD for spherical data. Based on numerical experiments with an artificial data set, the characteristics of each method are presented. the characteristics of each method are presented based on numerical experiments using an artificial dataset. © 2024 IEEE.

the complexity of modern software systems necessitates adaptability to better handle complex environments. this paper, from an object-oriented perspective, investigates adaptive learning methods using software agent technology. the study thoroughly examines the software engineering issues of adaptive systems from four perspectives: model, mechanism, language, and platform. the project integrates reinforcement learning and software agent technology, delving into the adaptive mechanisms of reinforcement learning, constructing adaptive intelligent agent software models, and exploring frameworks for adaptive system construction and adaptive learning algorithms. the case analysis of a robotic dog demonstrates that through continuous interaction with the environment, the robotic dog updates its understanding of the environment in real time, allowing it to adjust its strategy to adapt to changes in prey movement patterns and promptly adjust its role to replenish energy as needed to complete its tasks. this research validates the effectiveness of the proposed models, mechanisms, languages, and platforms, highlighting the potential impact of adaptive systems in enhancing system stability. © 2024 IEEE.

We propose a general attack framework based on evolutionary algorithms to quickly and efficiently generate low-perturbation adversarial samples for 3D point cloud data. Specifically, we employ a random selection to increase or decrease the number of points perturbed, followed by a single-objective evolutionary algorithm to adjust the magnitude of the perturbations. Additionally, we design an extended version that introduces a multi-objective optimization algorithm to simultaneously optimize the magnitude of the perturbations and attack effectiveness. To evaluate the performance of the proposal, we compare it with other classic algorithms using the ModelNet40 dataset. Experimental results show that the attack algorithm based on evolutionary algorithms can successfully fool well-trained models with acceptable perturbations and a higher success rate. © 2024 IEEE.

Crawler cranes are used in various applications, including plant construction and civil engineering. However, accidents caused by hazardous events, such as overturning the entire body or overshadowing of a suspended load, can be problematic. Because crawler cranes are large and powerful machines, simulators are required to analyze the relationship between such hazardous events and human operations. this study proposed a framework for a mixed-reality simulator to analyze the interactions between humans and crawler cranes. this framework combined the high-performance graphics capabilities of Unreal Engine 5 with the high-precision multibody dynamics analysis of MATLAB Simscape to create a visually and physically realistic simulation. Moreover, the quantification of the decision-making process was possible based on the eye-tracking information of the operator. this study described the implementation of these features and discussed the prospects for human-crawler crane interaction analysis using this simulator. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper addresses integrated design of engineering systems, where physical structure of the plant and controller design are optimized simultaneously. To cope with uncertainties due to noises acting on the dynamics and modeling errors, an Uncertain Control Co-design (UCCD) problem formulation is proposed. Existing UCCD methods usually rely on uncertainty propagation analyses using Monte CaIro methods for open-loop solutions of optimal control, which suffer from stringent trade-offs among accuracy, time horizon, and computational time. the proposed method utilizes closed-loop solutions characterized by the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, a Partial Differential Equation (PDE) defined on the state space. A solution algorithm for the proposed UCCD formulation is developed based on PDE solutions of Physics-informed Neural Networks (PINNs). Numerical examples of regulator design problems are provided, and it is shown that simultaneous update of PINN weights and the design parameters effectively works for solving UCCD problems. © 2024 IEEE.

Aiming at the current problems of low efficiency and poor synergy of parcel automatic sorting equipment, based on the new honeycomb intelligent sorting platform, an inverse kinematic model is established according to its platform structure to design the control scheme of parcel transmission to ensure the feasibility and effectiveness of the platform's work. And a parcel transmission path planning method integrating the improved hexagonal A* algorithm and the dynamic window approach is proposed to complete the parcel path planning and transmission. Firstly, according to the design of the hexagonal cell module of the platform, the traditional raster environment is changed into a hexagonal grid environment. And a redundant point rejection mechanism is established to optimize the path length and reduce the path turns. Secondly, in response to the lack of global judgement of the dynamic window approach, the fusion algorithm is formed by adding the distance term of the target point and the global path constraint term to improve the path accuracy and to realize real-time dynamic and static obstacle avoidance of parcels. Simulation results show that the fusion algorithm can avoid faulty unit modules and other parcels in real time while ensuring path validity, and complete collaborative path planning for multiple parcels. the platform control scheme can simultaneously determine the corresponding unit modules and bi-directional wheels and their speeds according to the path of fusion algorithm to complete the parcel sorting task. © 2024 Proceedings of the 13th international conference on Logistics and systems engineering. this study develops an automated defect detection system based on a CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) for rapid governor rotation and evaluates its performance. In the proposed paper, the governor is used in diesel engines to regulate fuel injection amounts to maintain the engine's rotational speed consistently. the governor is rotated using a servo motor at speeds of 700rpm, 1000rpm, 2000rpm, 2800rpm, and 3200rpm, and the degree of opening of the governor is captured using a camera. A CNN is employed to detect defect states using the captured images of the governor's opening degree. Experimental results evaluate the performance using the CNN algorithm Inception. this study demonstrates the application of CNN-based models to improve defect detection systems in manufacturing processes. © 2024 IEEE.
