this study presents a novel method for prioritizing vessels in multi-encounter scenarios, enhancing autonomous ship collision avoidance control. the method calculates a vessel's priority, i.e. ranking index, by considering factors such as collision risk, give-way responsibilities according to rules, vessel's maneuverability, and surrounding navigable waters. the fuzzy inference method is used to assign scalar values to collision risk, give-way responsibility, and maneuverability terms, while navigable water is evaluated based on the free space around a vessel. the method's applicability is demonstrated through three use cases: 1) Single-time step evaluation, 2) Sequential problem-solving, and 3) Continuous monitoring of priorities. the proposed method offers a range of functionalities applicable to various maritime scenarios, including monitoring and situational awareness, collision avoidance, sequential trajectory planning, and ship-to-ship negotiation. © 2024 IEEE.

Although patients with diabetes mellitus are known to have an increased risk of developing cancer during follow-up, it is difficult to verify the risk due to diabetes mellitus of developing rare cancer at patients' life stage. Using a large dataset of medical claims, we examined the risk of developing cancer based on the presence or absence of diabetes mellitus in various cancer types, according to age and sex. the pattern of increased cancer risk due to diabetes mellitus differed in both men and women according to age and cancer locus. these results enable us to consider cancer screening strategies for diabetes mellitus patients adjusting age and gender. © 2024 IEEE.

Modern Ontology-based engineering (OBE) systems, built over the foundations of knowledge-based engineering (KBE), leverage ontology-based technologies and the semantic web to capture and formalise knowledge holistically. this comprehensive knowledge repository can subsequently feed design and decision support tools with robust generative features. However, the integration and reuse of knowledge poses challenges for which it is necessary to develop appropriate methods and tools capable of handling diverse types of knowledge from both human experience and databases. the objective of this paper is to discuss the current limitations of OBE systems to address knowledge integration and reuse, based on the research and experiences of the authors in the aerospace manufacturing industry. this aims to provide a set of Research Questions (RQ) and the author's position to them, to serve as future research work and topics of discussion for the scientific community.

A main goal of heterogeneous transfer learning algorithms is to solve the domain adaptation problem of different feature spaces. However, some existing heterogeneous transfer learning methods usually only extract common features from the source domain and target domain, ignoring specific features, which may damage the performance of transfer learning. therefore, a hierarchical filter transfer learning algorithm (HFTLA) for heterogeneous domains in is proposed. First, a nonlinear mapping is constructed to learn the potential relationship between the features of different domains. then, the feature space can be aligned by learning common features and specific features, which can ensure the integrity of the features. Second, a hierarchical filter framework is developed to play different roles in different stages of transfer learning. In the pretransfer phase, a knowledge filter based on genetic principle is designed to increase the diversity of knowledge with different genetic operators. In the post-transfer phase, a guided filter is established to achieve a coupling balance between source knowledge and target information. Finally, experimental results on heterogeneous domains illustrate the effectiveness of HFTLA. © 2023 IEEE.

this study is based on the intelligent evaluation method of large language model, aiming at the evaluation problem of generative learning resources. An empirical study is conducted on the effect of intelligent evaluation on improving the quality of generative learning resources among 31 postgraduate subjects. Specifically, this study set up a control group evaluated by experts and an experimental group involved in intelligent evaluation, and obtained data of generative learning resources created within eight weeks for analysis and comparison. the results showed that intelligent evaluation can achieve a comparable level with expert evaluation in evaluating resources and continuously improving resource quality. this study suggests that by using intelligent evaluation systems, we can quickly and accurately evaluate a large number of learning resources and provide evidence for their improvement. © 2024 IEEE.

Understanding the communication mechanisms that drive collective behaviors in cancer is crucial for elucidating cancer progression and metastasis. To investigate communication mechanisms and their impacts on collective cell behaviors in can-cer, our previous study employed time-lapse imaging techniques on cancer cells placed on substrates containing fluorescent beads. In these experiments, we observed bead movements that reflect mechanical cell communication through substrate dynamics and collective cell motions. In this study, our objective is to develop a computational model to reproduce the experimental observations from our previous study. We demonstrated that the model developed in this paper substantiated previous experimental findings and established a foundation for further investigations into the communication mechanisms and collective behaviors in cancer. © 2024 IEEE.

Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is a surgical treatment for carotid artery stenosis for stroke prevention. Although CEA has been shown to be effective in patients with severe plaque stenosis, predicting long-term outcomes after CEA re-mains difficult. there are many studies that predict prognosis using patients' clinical data, but there are no studies that predict prognosis using carotid plaque pathological images. this study aims to predict the development of cardiovascular disease within one year after surgery in patients undergoing CEA using multimodal learning that combines carotid plaque pathological images, patient's clinical data, and pathologists' interpretation. Moreover, the proposed method contributes to detecting pathological factors and clinical features associated with the development of cardiovascular disease. Pathological risk scores obtained by the anomaly detection model were combined with clinical information and textual features obtained by TF-IDF and they are classified by XGBoost, resulting in a ROC-AUC of 0.850 and a PR-AUC of 0.816. these values showed better classification performance than when each feature was used alone. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper presents an application of the Multi-Objective Branch-and-Bound based on Decomposition (MOBB/D) method for Branch-and-Cut, combining branch-and-bound and cutting-plane methods. Traditionally, multi-objective branch-and-bound methods for multi-objective mixed-integer linear programming problems struggle with the large number of Pareto-optimal solutions. MOBB/D addresses this by decomposing multi-objective problems into single-objective subproblems using weight vectors and applying branch-and-bound to each, with information sharing between nearby subproblems. In this paper, we customize the MOBB/D method for Branch-and-Cut to achieve an efficient search by sharing cutting plane information in MOBB/D. We demonstrate our approach with a case study on garbage collection planning in Muroran City, Hokkaido, Japan. this case study combines facility location and route optimization within a multi-objective framework, balancing the burdens on residents and garbage collection workers. Numerical experiments compare execution times and solutions with and without cutting plane sharing, and visualize the impact of different objective balance preferences on route optimization. the results show substantial efficiency gains and provide practical insights for multi-objective optimization in urban planning. © 2024 IEEE.

With the accelerated transformation of the development of new power systems, the data interaction between the data center and the edge of the business system is increasingly frequent, which challenges the reliability and privacy security of the data in the interaction process. the existing data interaction schemes based on data anonymity usually rely on the trusted third party (TTP). However, the TTP has the risk of a single point of failure and internal leakage. At the same time, the terminal can easily be hijacked and become a medium to disrupt system decisions maliciously dur to the lack of security protection of edge networks. To solve these problems, this paper proposes a reliable data exchange scheme based on the oblivious transfer (OT) technology in the smart grid. Experiments show that this scheme can achieve the protection of user privacy without excessive overhead while getting rid of the dependence on the TTP.

While academic metrics such as transcripts and GPA are commonly used to evaluate students' knowledge acquisition, there are limited comprehensive metrics to measure their preparedness for the challenges of post-graduation life. this research paper explores the impact of various factors on university students' readiness for change and transition, with a focus on their preparedness for careers. the methodology employed in this study involves designing a survey based on Paul J. Mayer's"the Balance Wheel" to capture students' sentiments on various life aspects, including satisfaction with the educational process and expectations of salary. the collected data from a KBTU student survey (n=47) were processed through machine learning models: Linear Regression, Support Vector Regression (SVR), and Random Forest Regression. Subsequently, an intelligent system was built using these models and fuzzy sets. the system is capable of evaluating graduates' readiness for their future careers and demonstrates a high predictive power. the findings of this research have practical implications for educational institutions. Such an intelligent system can serve as a valuable tool for universities to assess and enhance students' preparedness for post-graduation challenges. By recognizing the factors contributing to students' readiness for change, universities can refine curricula and processes to better prepare students for their career journeys. © 2024 Elsevier B.V..
