One of the central problems of computer vision is model based object recognition. A catalogue of model objects is described via a set of features which are matched with the images. Image features that are most important to object recognition can be categorized into two types: edges and regions. Edges and surface patches are obtained from intensity and range images via independent algorithms. In this paper, we describe an algorithm that sets up a correspondence between the edge and surface features in a multiobject scene. Each edge is labeled with a list of surfaces to which it belongs and each surface is labeled with a list of edges that are on its boundary. this information can then be passed to higher level routines to group into individual objects for scene analysis. Both synthetic (with Gaussian noise) and real images containing multiple object scenes have been tested. Results appear quite encouraging.

Transmembrane proteins are the primary targets for the development of new drugs, and a number of algorithms that predict transmembrane topology are publicly available on the Web. In this paper, we present a novel approach using both SVM and HMM methods and we demonstrate that our system outperform the previous systems which only use either HMM methods or SVM methods alone. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

Most workflows are modeled from the point of view that the entire workflow can be perceived, modeled and executed as a single entity. While this is true in scenarios involving manufacturing industries it is not the same in ebusiness scenarios, which would involve various participants such as buyers, sellers, etc. In these scenarios it is difficult to explicitly model and use a single process model (with hierarchical sub processes). In these cases, a model of the interactions can be specified using Interaction Protocols (IPs). In this paper we discuss how our agent based workflow system supports process specific workflow models and the workflows based on interaction protocol models. the process modeler has the option of choosing one of these approaches of modeling or a combination of these approaches to model a workflow. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM) signal has been widely used in modern satellite, mobile communication and military communication system due to its good spectrum and power utilization and constant envelope characteristics. the premise of demodulation or jamming of CPM signal intercepted in military communication confrontation is the accurate estimation of signal parameters. Aiming at the difficulty and complexity of multi-h CPM signal modulation index estimation, this paper puts forward a kind of blind estimation algorithm of the modulation index based on first order cyclic moment and the second-order cyclic cumulants, using the first and second order cyclic properties in frequency domain on the spectral properties to signal parameter estimation. the estimation algorithm is suitable for both single h CPM signals and multi-h CPM signals, where the multi-h CPM requires the synchronization of the guidance sequence. Simulation results show that the algorithm has better performance under low signal-to-noise ratio with less symbols required. When the number of symbols is 128 and the signal-to-noise ratio is 15 dB, the accurate recognition rate of the multi-index CPM signal can reach 98% and the recognition rate can reach 99% with the allowable error of 1/32. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.

Many multimedia images, which are generated in countless ways, must be semantically stored and managed to search for relevant images. therefore, studies on image annotation have been conducted and the field is developing at a steady pace. In existing approaches, the user inputs the tag for the image directly to obtain the semantic tag. In this study, the tag is input to the image using a convolutional neural network, which can be used for deep learning. thus, it the hassle of entering tags for images is eliminated. through deep learning, the user can automatically input the tag for the image, and the entered tags can be expanded to the resource description framework model in Linked Tag. Finally, the user can perform semantic-based image search using the SPARQL query language. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With advances in technologies, huge volumes of a wide variety of valuable data-which may be of different levels of veracity-are easily generated or collected at a high velocity from a homogenous data source or various heterogeneous data sources in numerous real-life applications. Embedded in these big data are rich sources of information and knowledge. this calls for data science solutions to mine and analyze various types of big data for useful information and valuable knowledge. Movies are examples of big data. In this paper, we present a flexible query answering system (FQAS) for movie analytics. To elaborate, nowadays, data about movies are easy accessible. Movie analytics help to give insights about useful revenues, trends, marketing related to movies. In particular, we analyze movie datasets from data sources like Internet Movie Database (IMDb). Our FQAS makes use of our candidate matching process to generate a prediction of a movie IMDb rating as a response to user query on movie. Users also have flexibility to tune querying parameters. Evaluation results show the effectiveness of our data science approach-in particular, our FQAS-for movie analytics.

the international education sector in Australia expects a rise in demand for higher education programs in the future. this increase drives universities to monitor and continuously improve their business processes. Automated Business Process Discovery or Process Mining helps organisations create a business process graphical representation or process model, leveraging data from their information systems. the lack of a business process model and inefficiency in harnessing process data deters fact-based process improvement decision-making, impacting a company's operations. Within the international education context, Process Mining can help discover, analyze, manage and improve processes efficiently and deal with increasing market demand of international student enrolments. Here we have used the Process Mining Methodology Framework for Discovery Analysis focusing on Control-flow and Case Data perspectives. We highlight challenges encountered in process data extraction and preparation as well as performance analysis to identify potential bottlenecks.

the accuracy of defect detection in various locations is directly affected by the influence of precise segmentation of radial tire images. As the need for high-quality tires has grown, so has interest in the steel belt region. this region contains a diversity of textures and is impacted by shadows, and only a rough segmentation of this region has been achieved in the available literature, but this is interfered with by other areas, resulting in unsatisfactory defect detection in this region. As a result, we present a fine segmentation method for boundary mutation that takes advantage of the projection property of the local narrow window. First, the histogram adhesion change detection algorithm is designed;next, the narrow sliding window’s histogram peak width change algorithm is designed;finally, a wide sliding window is used for vertical projection, and the absolute value of the histogram change rate at the boundary is designed to maximize the algorithm. To calculate the outside boundary of the steel belt, the difference between the three sets of coordinates is kept within a specific error range. the detection was performed on 1,000 self-constructed data sets, with an accuracy rate of 94% and a detection speed of 0.1 s the experiments show that the algorithm can segment the steel belt’s outer boundary more finely and robustly, and it has a strong segmentation effect for images with a near texture angle and tire sidewall cord angle. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Compared with traditional electrical methods, radio frequency self-interference cancellation (SIC) based on microwave photonic technology has the advantages of large bandwidth, high precision, low loss and anti-electromagnetic interference. For distributed full-duplex communication system, a SIC method based on cascade modulation is studied. the cancellation depth of the system for single-frequency signals is more than 43 dB, and the cancellation depth for wideband signals is more than 22 dB, and the recovered useful signals is obtained. the system adopts cascade modulation, and the isolation degree of LO and RF signal is high. In this scheme, the signal after SIC can be transmitted to the central office through a long fiber. the proposed approach supplies an architecture for distributed systems with both down-conversion and SIC. © 2022 SPIE.
