this work presents a simpler method to obtain fingerprint classification by mean of directional map smoothing developed in C++ programming language through statistical techniques. that strategy allows to extract attributes of an image to increase the quality because it is possible to reduce the noise if compared withthe result obtained by mean other method exposed in the literature.

this paper introduces a new connected filter which provides image simplification in terms of flat zone and graylevel reduction. this filtering consists in application of morphological operators to the histogram. It is done because each object in the image has a significative distribution of graylevels in the histogram. In other words, that is enough to classify the distributions in the histogram for simplification of that objects. It is also shown some experimental results, where the proposed method is compared to other classical ones applied to flat zone and graylevel reduction.

To reconstruct a topologically consistent 3D surface model is a challenging problem. In this paper we present an algorithm that estimates from a range image, without registering and converting it into a volumetric data, the most probable topology of a surface to be reconstructed. In our algorithm we start with a closed initial mesh and preserve its "closeness" during the reconstruction process. Some experiments were carried out to validate our proposal.

We present methods for synthesizing 3D shape features on subdivision surfaces using multiscale procedural techniques. Multiscale synthesis is a powerful approach for creating surfaces with different levels of detail. Our methods can also blend multiple example multiresolution surfaces, including procedurally-defined surfaces as well as captured models.

this paper describes the design and implementation of NISVAS, an application for interactive visualization of large three-dimensional datasets produced by scientific applications that was developed in Java/Java3D. Data visualization with NISVAS maps dataset magnitudes into color, symbols and vectors. this paper presents the concepts and requirements for NISVAS graphical processing and user interface. the user interface is easy to use and learn, and supports different levels of user expertise. User reactions to NISVAS showed that all objectives were met, especially those relating to application performance and ease of use. Concluding remarks include directions for future development.

this paper presents a novel and more successful learning based approach to extracting low level features in a retina-like (log-polar) image representation. the low level features (edges, bars, blobs and ends) are based on Marr's primal sketch hypothesis for the human visual system [10]. the feature extraction process used a neural network that learns examples of the features in a window of receptive fields of the image representation. An architecture designed to encode the feature's class, position, orientation and contrast has been proposed and tested. Success depended on the incorporation of a function to normalise the feature's orientation and a PCA pre-processing module to produce better separation in the feature space.
