the map-seeking circuit (MSC) is an explicit biologically-motivated computational mechanism which provides practical solution of problems in object recognition, image registration and stabilization, limb inverse-kinematics and other inverse problems which involve transformation discovery. We formulate this algorithm as discrete dynamical system on a set Delta = Pi(L)(l=1)Delta((l)), where each Delta((l)) is a compact subset of a nonnegative orthant of R-n, and show that for an open and dense set of initial conditions in Delta the corresponding solutions converge to either a vector with unique nonzero element in each Delta((l)) or to a zero vector. the first result implies that the circuit finds a unique best mapping which relates reference pattern to a target pattern;the second result is interpreted as "no match found". these results verify numerically observed behavior in numerous practical applications.

In this paper a new portable Digital In-line Holography Platform for biological micro-scale imaging of sperm samples is presented. this platform is based on the shadow imaging principle, where biological samples are illuminated by a nearly coherent light source, and shadows are recorded into a CMOS imaging sensor with no lens requirement. the projected shadows present holographic signatures, storing more than bi-dimensional information of the analyzed sample. To improve resolution and suppress noise of the acquired holograms, a multi-frame technique based on high-dynamic range imaging combined with summation of consecutive frames over time was used. Finally, decoding of holograms is performed by an efficient and fast phase-recovery method, where morphological details of the sample can be obtained similarly a conventional bright-field microscopy image. From an image formation point of view, the proposed portable approach is able to visualize biological samples in high synthetic numerical aperture values with a spatial resolution of 1-2 mu m on a field-of-view of approximate to 30 mm(2). this field-of-view is consistently bigger than a conventional microscope imaged area with no mosaic reconstruction, and the achieved resolution is obtained using a single illumination source with no moving parts, array of LEDs or sift of the light source. Validation of the proposed portable approach was performed using various human samples, where conventional microscopy was used for confirmation purposes.

In this paper we present a multi-threaded sort-first distributed rendering system. In order to achieve load balance among the rendering nodes, we propose a new partitioning scheme based on the rendering time of the previous frame. the proposed load-balancing algorithm is very simple to be implemented and works well for both geometry and rasterization-bound models. We also propose a strategy to assign tiles to rendering nodes that effectively uses the available graphics resources, thus improving rendering performance.

We report some issues involved in the construction of an interactive, interoperable application, whose primary purpose is to be used as a virtual mockup. this graphic tool was tailored for machine vision application prototyping, to cope with metrological settings of large part assemblies. Some relevant aspects of designing interactive 3D applications will be discussed, including an account of some modern graphics libraries, particularly Java 3D. the achieved results, including some interesting byproducts of this work, to be publicly distributed soon, are also presented.
