Mammography is currently the most powerful technique for early detection of breast cancer. To better interpret mammogram images and assist radiologists in their decision, CAD systems have been proposed. this paper gives a comparative analysis of the existing preprocessing methods and proposes a technique for preprocessing mammography that will be implemented afterwards in a CAD system. the proposed preprocessing technique consists of four phases: the first involves suppressing noise from mammogram images using two denoising filters. the second comprises the contrast enhancement using the CLAHE. the third phase describes labels removal, and finally, pectoral muscle segmentation method is performed. the proposed method is applied on images from MIAS and INbreast databases resulting in complete pectoral muscle suppression in most of the images.

In industrial production systems, operators and engineers develop, on a daily basis, a degree of knowledge about some processes that, giving enough time, they become experts in the systems which themselves operate. In order to take advantage of this knowledge and experience, a knowledge-based system (KBS) can be employed to model and store the inference as well as the ways of decision-making of the operators in their working procedures. this article considers that in a setting of higher autonomy, a KBS could be embedded, such as for example, coupled in a programmable logic controller (PLC), which would adjust the controller as well as take control actions in a closed loop system without the direct intervention from the operators. thus, as a possible application, such systems can be developed for the task of automatic tuning of proportional-integral-derivative (PID) parameters of a conventional controller, an important activity in process control operational routines. the study includes a conceptual proposal for developing this application and emphasizes the importance of artificial intelligence technologies for obtaining a higher degree of autonomy.

Information-Centric Networking (ICN) is an emerging network paradigm based on name-identified data objects and in-network caching. therefore, ICN contents are distributed in a scalable and cost-efficient manner. With the rapid growth of IoT traffic, ICN is intended to be a suitable architecture to support IoT networks. In fact, ICN provides unique persistent naming, in-network caching and multicast communications which reduce the data producer load and the response latency. Using ICN in an IoT environment requires a study of caching policies in terms of cache placement strategies and cache replacement policies. To this end, we address, in this paper, caching challenges with the aim to identify which caching policies are suitable for IoT networks. Simulation findings show that the combination of the consumer-cache caching strategy and the RR cache replacement policy is the most convenient in IoT environments in terms of hop reduction ratio, server hit reduction and response latency.

It is well-known that intrusion detection systems are an effective way to detect malicious connections in a computer network Different feature extraction techniques have been applied in the field of detection intrusions;the most common one is Principal Component Analysis (PCA). Nevertheless, PCA is restricted to linear principal components and suffers from sensitivity to noise and can be easily affected by outliers. To deal with the drawbacks of PCA many data dimensionality reduction methods have been proposed, among them we found Robust Fuzzy PCA (RFPCA) which employs fuzzy memberships in order to reduce the effect of outliers. Unfortunately, even though RFPCA showed satisfactory results, it still suffers from the influence of outliers. In fact, using an increasing function such as exponential function in the estimation of memberships will assign a big membership values to outliers, consequently, the obtained results can be skewed. In this paper, we suggest a new variant of Robust Fuzzy PCA (RFPCA) method for the purpose of network IDS. Extensive experiments on the two well known datasets i.e. KDDcup99 and NSL-KDD demonstrated that the proposed approach takes the advantage over RFPCA and PCA in terms of network attacks detection and false alarms reduction.

the Brazilian government is maintaining several digital inclusion projects, providing computers and Internet connection to developing regions around the country. However, these projects can only succeed if they are constantly assessed;namely, the projects infrastructure deployment must be closely monitored and evaluated. In this paper, we introduce a system called SIMMC, which is currently monitoring and evaluating more than 4,500 computing devices from Brazilian digital inclusion projects. this system is innovative because, in addition to being used by the government for managing and expanding its projects, the collected data is also publicly available on a web page, allowing the citizens to follow the projects' deployment. We describe the SIMMC architecture, reporting some techniques used to optimize its data analysis processes, and describe how the information acquired and presented by the system has been used to enable public administration overhaul and improve efficiency on the project management, as well as its strategic use for security, theft, and defrauding.

In this study, we propose a system to classify thermal images of the breast considering the presence or absence of disease not only tumor and cancer, as most of previous works did. the proposal, at present stage, separates a breast among presenting benign tumor, cancer or being normal and shows how new diagnostic can be included in the data base when a number of proved case of a disease is known. the methodology begins by pre-processing images to be free of those regions that are not of interest for the work before execution of an algorithm for textural features computation, then a set of characteristics is calculated and they are ranged by machine learning classifier, that identity the clinical condition of the patient's breasts. For this classification, a Support Vector Machine (SVM) was used and trained based on already classified diagnosis from two data bases. Tests performed present accuracy above 90%, showing that the proposal is very promising. the project is in the phase of final adjustments and critical use by the medical community for the diagnostic aid. In future work integrations with other examinations is the aim.

Nowadays, recent technological advances in the acquisition, modeling and processing of three-dimensional (3D) objects data lead to the creation of models stored in huge databases, which are used in various domains such as computer vision, augmented reality, game industry, medicine, CAD (computer-aided design), 3D printing etc. On the other hand, the industry is currently benefiting from powerful modeling tools enabling designers to easily and quickly produce 3D models. the great ease of acquisition and modeling of 3D objects make possible to create large 3D models databases, then, it becomes difficult to navigate them. therefore, the indexing of 3D objects appears as a necessary and promising solution to manage this type of data, to extract model information, re trim an existing model or calculate similarity between 3D objects. the objective of the proposed research is to develop a framework allowing easy and fast access to 3D objects in a CAD models database with specific indexing algorithm to find objects similar to a reference model. Our main objectives are to study existing methods of 3D objects similarity calculation (essentially shape-based methods) by specifying the characteristics of each method as well as the difference between them, and then we will propose a new approach for indexing and comparing 3D models, which is suitable for our case study and which is based on some studied previously methods. Our proposed approach is finally illustrated by an implementation, and evaluated in a professional context.

To ensure complex systems reliability and to extent their life cycle, it is crucial to properly and timely prognose faults. In this context, this paper describes a new intelligent approach to estimate the remaining useful life in complex systems. this approach is based on the combination of several intelligent techniques. this approach is based on Echo State Network (ESN) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique to set the ESN with optimal parameters. the input of this model are the measurements of signals correlated to the component degradation state, whereas the model output is the component RUL. To validate the feasibility of the proposed approach, real life fault historical data from turbofan engines system were analyzed and used to obtain the optimal prediction of RUL. © 2017 ieee.
