Complex embedded systems are now supporting the co-existence of multiple OSes to manage services once assigned to separate embedded microcontrollers. Automotive systems, for example, now use multiple OSes to consolidate electronic control unit (ECU) functions on a centralized embedded computing platform. Such platforms have the complexity of an industrial embedded PC, with multiple cores and hardware virtualization capabilities. this enables a partitioning hypervisor to spatially and temporally share the physical machine with separate guest OSes, which manage services of different criticality levels. However, PC-class hardware incurs a large latency to bootstrap an OS and associated application-level services. A firmware BIOS performs a power-on-self-test, and then loads OS images into memory from a bootable storage device. this latency is unacceptable in time-critical embedded systems, where important services must be operational within milliseconds of starting the system. In this paper, we present Jumpstart, a PC-class power management approach that minimizes the wakeup delay of a partitioning hypervisor for use in embedded systems. We show how Jumpstart resumes critical OS services and tasks from a low power suspended state in approximately 600 milliseconds, and reduces full system startup delay by a factor of 23. Additionally, Jumpstart consumes minimal power compared to approaches requiring a system boot from a previously powered-off state. By comparison, an alternative firmware-optimized bootloader, called Slim, reduces boot latency by a factor of 1.8.

the continued increase in Cyber-Physical System (CPS) complexity and tightening of Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) constraints are driving the need for consolidation of software tasks onto fewer microcontrollers. Many embedded systems, prominently including those in the Internet-of-things (IoT), use software packages from multiple untrusted sources, while their network interfaces expose new attack surfaces that are not present in traditional off-line devices. Increased consolidation with untrusted code of various assurance levels complicates system design, and requires increased spatial and temporal isolation between the applications. Current microcontroller protection domain designs are limited by their long interrupt latencies to isolated applications, forcing the system designers to place timing-sensitive application code into the kernel interrupt handlers, trading spatial isolation for tightly-bounded temporal predictability. SBI (Secure Baremetal Interrupt) enables zero-software-cost delivery of interrupts to protection domains in a secure manner that maintains isolation. We demonstrate an implementation of SBI using the new hardware-accelerated interrupt delivery features on TrustZone-M-enabled microcontrollers. this implementation reduces interrupt latencies by up to 95%, while maintaining strong spatial and temporal isolation. We believe SBI could significantly enable future real-time systems that require both isolation and high responsiveness.

this paper deals with the possibility of using transfer learning (TL) of a deep convolutional network (CNN) to develop a universal stator winding fault diagnostic system for the induction motor (IM) and the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). the proposed diagnostic system uses direct processing of phase current signals to detect and evaluate the degree of stator damage. the TL idea was based on using the CNN structure pre-trained for the IM diagnostic system in a diagnostic application dedicated to IM and PMSM. Experimental verification carried out on real objects confirmed very high precision of steady-state and transient damage detection and classification for both IM and PMSM. Furthermore, the detection time shown in the study for both types of machines did not exceed 0.07 seconds. © 2023 ieee.

Industries are embracing information technology and constructing more robust machines known as Cyber-Physical Systems(CPS) to automate processes. CPSs are envisioned to be pervasive, coordinating, and integrating computation, sensing, actuation, and physical processes. CPSs have various applications in life-critical scenarios, where their performance and reliability can have direct impacts on human safety and well-being. However, CPSs are vulnerable to malicious attacks, and researchers have developed detectors to identify such attacks in different contexts. Surprisingly, little work has been done to detect attacks on the actuators of CPS. Furthermore, actuators face a high risk of optimal hidden attacks designed by powerful attackers, which can push them into an unsafe state without detection. To the best of our knowledge, no such attacks on actuators have been developed yet. In this paper, we design an optimal hidden attack for actuators and evaluate its effectiveness. First, we develop a mathematical model for actuators and then create a linear program for convex optimization. Second, we solve the optimization problem and simulate the optimal attack. © 2024 ieee.

Recent advances in the field of deep learning technologies have made it possible to develop practical video analysis systems with embedded platform that are more accurate and faster than prior embedded systems based on pattern analysis technology. In video analysis applications, object detection, face recognition, action recognition and super resolution technology is the most important functions. In this paper, we show action recognition and super resolution on embedded deep learning system. It is discovered that ResNet34 structure with 16 frames analysis is most profitable for speed and accuracy and Attention based super resolution method is enough for real-time processing. Both deep learning models optimized for speed and accuracy are operated on embedded system with Intel NPU at real-time. We introduce main technologies in chapter 1. Proposed method is shown in chapter 2 and the result is shown in chapter 3. © 2023 ieee.

In traditional medical practices, music therapy has proven effective in treating various psychological and physiological ailments. Particularly in Eastern traditions, the Five Elements Music therapy (FEMT), rooted in traditional Chinese medicine, possesses profound cultural significance and unique therapeutic philosophies. With the rapid advancement of Information technology and Artificial Intelligence, applying these modern technologies to FEMT could enhance the personalization and cultural relevance of the therapy and potentially improve therapeutic outcomes. In this article, we developed a music therapy system for the first time by applying the theory of the five elements in music therapy to practice. this innovative approach integrates advanced Information technology and Artificial Intelligence with Five-Element Music therapy (FEMT) to enhance personalized music therapy practices. As traditional music therapy predominantly follows Western methodologies, the unique aspects of Eastern practices, specifically the Five-Element theory from traditional Chinese medicine, should be considered. this system aims to bridge this gap by utilizing computational technologies to provide a more personalized, culturally relevant, and therapeutically effective music therapy experience.

the rapid growth of applications focused on handling amounts of data has increased the demand, for computational power especially in areas such as machine learning and graph analysis within big data frameworks. While these applications have traditionally been run on data centers, they now encounter issues concerning security and quick access to data leading to a shift towards embedded systems with processing capacity. To tackle this challenge, we suggest a strategy to improve the efficiency of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) on embedded systems through hardware-driven computing. Our innovative method, "Dynamic Binding Window"adjusts calculation precision dynamically within convolution layers based on feature map windows and layer positions reducing burden and energy usage without compromising accuracy. Our research demonstrates that this approach effectively overcomes the constraints of embedded systems allowing for real-time processing on devices. Comparative evaluations indicate enhancements in processing speed and energy efficiency showcasing the impact of our approach in fields, like autonomous vehicles that rely on swift and precise image analysis. © 2024 ieee.

this paper presents the development of a Convolutional Neural Network accelerator based on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) for the steering control application in a mobile robot. the FPGA-based implementation was benchmarked against an equivalent implementation using a general-purpose processor. the FPGA outperforms the general-purpose processor by significantly reducing processing time. However, the quantization process introduces increased estimation error, and the concurrent execution of the processor for data preprocessing in the accelerator implementation leads to higher power consumption. While the proposed solution is specific to the robot steering control problem, the general insights can be extrapolated to other applications that require high computing performance within power constraints.

this paper proposes a Virtual Instrumentation (VI) based graphical user interface (GUI) that is effective for Remote Monitoring and Controlling for small scale electrical infrastructure using LabVIEW. the graphical user interface (GUI) is created utilizing LabVIEW, whereas the hardware is formed through voltage and current sensors, Arduino Uno and relay. through USB communication, the program and device are interfaced. the monitoring interface utilizes real time measurement data to generate graphs displaying power, current, and voltage. Additionally, it has the capability to store and access a database file for the purpose of analyzing historical data. the control function involves the ability to activate or deactivate the system. Energy management of a building can be monitored and controlled by these GUI and prototype. this user interface can be used to demonstrate how to implement embedded systems projects, communicate through USB, acquire data, and monitor systems like distribution systems for commercial and industrial applications. © 2023 ieee.

Over the past few years, two-factor authentication (2FA) has emerged as a reliable defense against various cyber-attacks, such as Man in the Middle (MITM) and cookie theft. By combining passphrase and one-time password (OTP) authentication, it has successfully preserved the privacy of users across multiple applications. However, recent advancements in quantum computing have posed a threat to the security of credentials. Quantum computers now possess the capability to penetrate standard encryption algorithms. To address this concern, this research aims to implement new post-quantum algorithms for encryption and secure transference of authentication credentials. Specifically, this research will explore NTRU, CRYSTALS-Dilithium, SPHINCS+, and FALCON while evaluating their performance benchmarks against each other within an OTP authentication system. the goal is to determine which algorithm best suits the scenario with enhanced resistance against quantum-related threats. © 2024 ieee.
