the orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS) modulation as a promising signal representation attracts growing attention for integrated sensing and communication. To illuminate the capability of OTFS for sensing, this paper studies its performance bound in contrast to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). We formulate the signal models of OTFS and OFDM in a unified format and extend them to Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) system. then the Cramér-Rao lower bounds (CRLB) of unknown parameters estimation are derived for them in both Single-Input Single-Output (SISO) and MIMO systems. Simulations in these cases validate the outperformance of OTFS modulation scheme for localization.

Currently, most existing models for the automatic classification of electrocardiogram (ECG) signals demand high computation and memory capacity and thus are not applicable for edge communication scenarios with resources constrained devices. In this paper, we propose a lightweight two-dimensional convolutional neural network architecture (Ghost-VGG-16) for the accurate classification of five typical heart rates. Specifically, the proposed model follows the basic network structure of Visual Geometry Group(VGG)-16 and adopts the Ghost Module instead of the traditional convolution layer to generate more feature maps in terms of inexpensive linear operation, thus substantially reducing the parameters and calculations of the network model. To further simplify the preprocessing procedure, ECG signals are initially segmented into heartbeats and each heartbeat is then converted into a two-dimensional grey-scale image as the input data, which avoids noise filtering and feature extraction procedure. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves an average accuracy of 99.74% at a lower computation and memory cost, which makes it more suitable for edge computing networks with performance-constrained edge devices.

Arabic handwriting recognition is considered among the most important and challenging recognition research subjects due to the cursive nature of writing and the similarities between different characters shapes. In this paper, we investigate the problem of handwritten Arabic recognition. We propose a new architecture combining CNN and BLSTM based on character model approach with CTC decoder. the handwriting Arabic database KHATT is used for experiments. the results demonstrate a net advantage of performance for the CNN-BLSTM combining approach compared to the approaches used in the literature. © the Editor(s) (if applicable) and the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.

In a database system, if the degree of concurrency is high, using a concurrency control algorithm alone will reduce the performance of the system, and the process of selecting a concurrency control algorithm will virtually improve the knowledge threshold of users. In order to overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a hybrid concurrency control algorithm, which is called cluster based concurrency control algorithm. It creatively puts forward the concept of transaction working set, uses the minimum hash algorithm to calculate the Jaccard similarity between different transaction working sets to measure the conflict rate between different transactions, and uses this as a standard to place transactions in different clusters, Transactions in the same cluster adopt pessimistic concurrency control algorithm, and transactions in different clusters adopt optimistic concurrency control algorithm. the clustering based concurrency control algorithm combines the traditional pessimistic concurrency control algorithm with the optimistic concurrency control algorithm to obtain the advantages of the two algorithms and alleviate the performance bottleneck of the two algorithms. Finally, through simple experiments, it is proved that the concurrency control algorithm based on clustering is indeed better than the traditional pessimistic and optimistic concurrency control algorithms. © 2022, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

those computer systems that are in charge of the control of national and social infrastructures are called Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Most SCADA systems have been considered to be relatively safe in the past as they use closed networks non-disclosed communication protocols and therefore, the reinforcement of system security and incident responses has been neglected. However, the SCADA system security incidents that have been occurring recently mean that SCADA systems are exposed to security threats and as communication technologies are developed, illegal access paths to SCADA communication networks that use wireless communication can increase further. Since SCADA systems are in charge of the control of national and social infrastructures, the occurrence of security incidents can result in serious problems. therefore, studies of related security technologies and policies are necessary. To this end, the present paper helps the understanding of the overall system through detailed analyses of the ZigBee protocol among the wireless communication protocols used by the SCADA system. In addition, the security vulnerability of wireless SCADA systems is studied through simulations of products that use the ZigBee protocol. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Network Intrusion Detection systems (IDSs) have been used to increase the level of network security for many years. the main purpose of such systems is to detect and block malicious activity in the network traffic. Researchers have been improving the performance of IDS technology for decades by applying various machine-learning techniques. From the perspective of academia, obtaining a quality dataset (i.e. a sufficient amount of captured network packets that contain both malicious and normal traffic) to support machine learning approaches has always been a challenge. there are many datasets publicly available for research purposes, including NSL-KDD, KDDCUP 99, CICIDS 2017 and UNSWNB15. However, these datasets are becoming obsolete over time and may no longer be adequate or valid to model and validate IDSs against state-of-the-art attack techniques. As attack techniques are continuously evolving, datasets used to develop and test IDSs also need to be kept up to date. Proven performance of an IDS tested on old attack patterns does not necessarily mean it will perform well against new patterns. Moreover, existing datasets may lack certain data fields or attributes necessary to analyse some of the new attack techniques. In this paper, we argue that academia needs up-to-date high-quality datasets. We compare publicly available datasets and suggest a way to provide up-to-date high-quality datasets for researchers and the security industry. the proposed solution is to utilize the network traffic captured from the Locked Shields exercise, one of the world's largest live-fire international cyber defence exercises held annually by the NATO CCDCOE. During this three-day exercise, red team members consisting of dozens of white hackers selected by the governments of over 20 participating countries attempt to infiltrate the networks of over 20 blue teams, who are tasked to defend a fictional country called Berylia. Recently, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have stroke great interest in the field of wireless communication due to their unique capabilities, for instance, flexibility, maneuverability, and adaptive altitude adjustment. However, the impact of the UAV jitter on parameters related to air-to-terrestrial wireless communication channel characteristics and how to reasonably quantify this impact have not been widely explored. In this paper, we assume a single UAV scenario under the Rician multipath channel model to derive the relationship between channel capacity and channel quality with the number of antennas and carrier frequency, the sensitivity of channels at different carrier frequencies to UAV random jitter, and the comparative results of channel availability at the same jitter level through the experiments. Finally, it is concluded that under the condition of the same carrier frequency, the channel capacity and transmission rate are proportional to the number of transmitting and receiving antennas, while the maximum pitch angle of the UAV swing is inversely proportional to the length of the channel coherence time; under the condition of the same number of transmitting and receiving antennas, the carrier frequency of the channel is inversely proportional to the channel coherence time and the channel stability, especially in millimeter-wave conditions.

the integrated radar and communication systems can effectively solve the problem of lack of spectrum resources, which is a typical application of spectrum sharing technology. this paper considers the problem of amplitude mutual information-based radar waveform design for the integrated radar and communication systems in the same frequency band. the joint radar-communication mutual information (MI) is proposed to be utilized as the integrated performance metric for integrated systems. the joint radar-communication MI is the sum of radar amplitude MI and conditional communication MI with knowing radar channels. Based on this model, the MI and Neyman-Pearson (NP) criteria are considered to optimize the multi-carrier radar waveform under total transmit power and channel capacity constraints. We employ the waveform design method to investigate the performance of target detection. Numerical results demonstrate that the performance of target detection can be efficiently improved by exploiting the amplitude MI-based and NP-based criteria. It is also shown that the performance of MI-based method tends to be the same as MI-based method in high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). the scattered part of the communication signal at the target can improve the target detection probability by 11.06% to 34.71%.

Gesture recognition through wireless communication signal is a new approach for human-computer interaction, and is an important topic for integrated sensing and communication designs in next-generation mobile communication system. Wireless gesture recognition is mainly realized by analyzing the change of propagation channel, especially the phase change of reflection path. However, the law of phase change is closely related to the position and orientation of the user, as well as the positions of transmitter and receiver. the gesture recognition system trained in a given environment usually does not work well in a new environment. In this paper we propose a position and orientation independent gesture recognition method, where the phase change under any position configuration is transformed to the gesture trajectory in an invariant body coordinate system. the transformation matrix implicitly embodies the impact of position and orientation, and is estimated by a preamble gesture each time reaching a new environment. the method is verified in a prototype system, and the recognition accuracies under different position configurations are tested.

One of the challenging tasks in 5G networks is to organize a joint URLLC (ultra-reliable and low-latency communication) and eMBB (enhanced mobile broadband) transmission in such a way that provides the priority to URLLC connections. the eMBB users suffer quality of service degradation, primarily bit rate degradation, as well as service interruption. In the paper, we provide a queuing model for analyzing this effect depending on several path loss models. the queuing system is of type resource queuing system, where the resource has three-dimensional structure – frequency bandwidth, radio frame length, and transmitted signal power. Due to different URLLC and eMBB bit rate requirements, we use weighted round robin (WRR) resource allocation scheme. the stationary probability distribution depends on the conditional probabilities of session acceptance. We provide the formulas for calculating eMBB metrics – average bit rate, interruption probability, and blocking probability. A numerical example illustrates the impact of two path loss models for macro- and microcells on eMBB metrics. © 2022, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
