American sign language (ASL) is a natural language to minimize communication barrier for the people suffering from hearing and speech impairment. However, sign languages are not a common form of communication in society, and it is lacking a sign language translator to ease the communication. Hence, this research proposes an improved visual-based communication framework to translate ASL alphabets in real-time. the proposed framework consists of different steps i.e., image pre-processing, hand segmentation with U-Net, data-augmentation techniques, and classification of American sign language. A n ensemble classification model i s proposed where V GG19, R esNet-50 and MobileNet are used as base models, and 2 fully connected layers are used as meta model. the proposed approach achieved 99.86% accuracy and performed better when compared with existing literature.

this paper aims to create a digital design of a robotic control system. throughout the research, the students have used Matlab as their choice of simulation tool when conducting experiments during the laboratory subject. Matlab is a powerful tool, capable of simulating control systems digitally. that is because, like any computer program, Matlab stores data in digital form. So it can be said that when using Matlab for the experiments, the students were making digital control systems throughout the term. So in this paper, the students will synthesize what they have learned throughout the course, and combine that knowledge with additional insights from other reviewed related literature regarding the same topic and come up with a paper that thoroughly discusses the topic of digital control systems. the learnings gained from conducting this literature review paper can be useful to the student’s future studies or one of the many fields of work that will require the students to know how to conduct a simulation of digital control systems.

We study the coverage probability of cell-edge users in a cellular network where reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs), plains of low-cost antenna elements that improve wireless channel quality by providing auxiliary transmission paths, are employed for signal power enhancement. We model the locations of cell-edge users as a Poisson hole process (PHP) in which each user is paired with a RIS. By leveraging tools from stochastic geometry, we derive a analytical-form expression for the coverage probability, accounting for effects from channel fading, path loss, and interference that arised from co-channel transmissions of the base stations as well as those reflected by the RISs. the analytical results are corroborated by simulations and provide useful insights to the deployment of RISs in a cellular system.

With the continuous development of social economy, intelligent acquisition terminal plays an important role in some remote and abusive environments. In this paper, an intelligent integrated acquisition terminal is proposed, which can be effectively applied to irrigation area information collection, earthquake disaster monitoring and other scenarios. the acquisition terminal (RTU) proposed in this paper adopts a design scheme combining GD32F407 embedded system and embedded industrial computer to complete data collection, processing, transmission, display, storage and intelligent control of equipment. the RTU acquisition base plate is designed by GD32F407 chip, including RS485, 4-20MA, SSI Gray code, relay control, Ethernet and other interfaces [1]. the RS485 interface uses Modbus Rtu protocol to request data from sensors connected to the outside. SSI Gray code interface can be connected to absolute value encoder to collect data, gray code interface carries on data transmission through 422 interface on hardware, and carries on data latching at corresponding edge through analog clock signal on software level. Modbus TCP protocol is used to exchange information between the acquisition baseboard and the industrial computer through Ethernet. the industrial computer runs the fast control configuration software, which can receive the transmitted data and realize intelligent control of external devices.

Twin-field quantum key distribution can break through the linear bound, and promises higher key rate over longer distance. But there are two main challenges of signal processing when the twin-field protocol is implemented. One is remote generation of twin fields, the other is perfect compensation of the fast phase drift. Here, we introduce the typical methods and strategies to deal with these challenges by analysis of recent experiments, especially the latest twin-field experiment over 833.8 km fiber.

Extracting valuable patterns from a dataset involves isolating the pattern of relevance from any other influential attributes in the data generation process. this becomes important when trying to repurpose existing datasets that were collected for a specific objective. When repurposing datasets, irrelevant influential attributes cannot necessarily be treated as noise. this paper aims to develop a representation learning scheme to identify individual users based on their radio-frequency footprint (WiFi Fingerprinting) within a collection of WiFi access points in a building. the question pertains to whether a user-dependent signature can be isolated from the Received signal strength indicator (RSSI) across a network of WiFi access points, which can then be used to identify individuals in a building without the need for line of sight sensors such as cameras. We repurposed a popular dataset called UJIndoorLoc, which was collected to localize individual users based on the RSSI. We propose a novel adversarial contrastive representation learning scheme based on a triplet loss to extract user-dependent patterns while minimizing the influence of location-dependent patterns inherent within this dataset. the results indicate a robust user-dependent pattern that can be isolated with an accuracy of 0.87. Such coarse-grained identification methods based on RSSI can be combined with fine-grained Channel State Information (CSI) for passively identifying individuals without requiring cameras.

the fingerprint localization technology based on receive signal strength (RSS) is one of the most important methods in indoor localization. However, the stability of RSS is fragile due to internal multipath effects. this problem causes the reference points (RPs) to be mis-matched during system localization. Subsequently, the localization performance is degraded. To reduce the fluctuation of signal, we use a WiFi/ Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)/ Pedestrian Dead Reckoning (PDR) fusion localization system, but the problem that RPs are mis-matched still exists. therefore, in this paper, we propose a WiFi/BLE/PDR fusion localization system based on convolutional neural network (CNN) to solve the problem. the method makes use of the signal features that can not be captured by the traditional positioning systems, and improves the localization accuracy. In the training phase, the scheme utilizes RSS to construct RP fingerprint sequences and set up a CNN structure. WiFi and BLE localization models are trained with the structure. In the test phase, the trained models are employed for localization. then, the location information from WiFi, BLE, and PDR is combined to obtain the location coordinates. the result shows that the average error of the method is 2.47 m. Compared with traditional methods, the method proposed in this paper is more effective.

the analysis of global temperature trends at various regional and temporal dimensions has received considerable interest from the scientific community over the past century due to the growing awareness of the effects of climate change on the earth. the objective of this research is to determine and analyse the trend of monthly fluctuations in land and ocean temperatures around the world. this was accomplished by scraping a database maintained by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for monthly global land and ocean temperature anomaly data between 1881 and 2020. this study uses the Mann-Kendall trend test and Sen's estimator for slope to examine the global impact of climate change by comparing the trends of global land temperature anomalies, global ocean temperature anomalies, and their combined global land and ocean temperature anomaly records. the substantial magnitude of several statistical parameters demonstrates that the temperature anomalies (land, ocean, and combined) have significantly increased during the previous five decades, mostly as a consequence of strong anthropogenic sources. this necessitates the development of a proper action plan to limit global warming and the design of policies to reduce the elements that are likely to have detrimental effects on the climate on a local and global scale.

E-mail and SMS are the most popular communication tools used by businesses, organizations and educational institutions. Every day, people receive hundreds of messages which could be either spam or ham. Spam is any form of unsolicited, unwanted digital communication, usually sent out in bulk. Spam emails and SMS waste resources by unnecessarily flooding network lines and consuming storage space. therefore, it is important to develop high accuracy spam detection models to effectively block spam messages, so as to optimize resources and protect users. Various word-embedding techniques such as Bag of Words (BOW), N-grams, TF-IDF, Word2Vec and Doc2Vec have been widely applied to NLP problems, however a comparative study of these techniques for SMS spam detection is currently lacking. Hence, in this paper, we provide a comparative analysis of these popular word embedding techniques for SMS spam detection by evaluating their performance on a publicly available ham and spam dataset. We investigate the performance of the word embedding techniques using 5 different machine learning classifiers i.e. Multinomial Naive Bayes (MNB), KNN, SVM, Random Forest and Extra Trees. Based on the dataset employed in the study, N-gram, BOW and TF-IDF with oversampling recorded the highest F1 scores of 0.99 for ham and 0.94 for spam.

Large propagation delay is a typical feature of wide-range wireless Ad hoc networks. Transmission frame structures in conventional data link protocols designed for such networks mitigate the impact of delays by using techniques such as guard interval, which reduces the effective transmission time of the network. However, large propagation delays can be used to enable more concurrent transmissions. In this paper, we derive the upper bound on the throughput of directional-beam-based networks with large propagation delays. Further, we present a novel transmission frame structure that regards the propagation delay as a buffer to achieve the upper bound of such networks and an algorithm to find an approximate frame length for general delays. Finally, simulation results verify that the proposed frame structure with the frame length obtained by the proposed algorithm achieves the much higher throughput compared with the existing counterparts.
