It has proven that to provide priority to different traffic types in wireless vehicular networking (VANET) is attracting wide attention for guaranteeing high quality real-time traffic routing. Choosing a reliable and stable route with Quality of Service (QoS) constraints is always a challenging task because of the high mobility in VANET. this paper proposes an approach that prioritizes the transmission of traffic data packet according to the transmission distance and urgency metrics of messages before making a selection of routes. the approach utilizes a priority classifying a mechanism to differentiate traffic information into various priorities imposed in the VANET communications. the performance of the proposed approach was simulated extensively using NCTUns simulator in terms of throughput, packet loss and delay. the results obtained show efficient solutions on the impact of mobility for the prioritized flows in enhancing safety messaging. this approach makes safety messages to be transmitted with high reliability and low delay as compared to non-prioritized traffic flows.

the wireless technology evolved a lot during time, so that, such a technology can assure data transfer rates comparable with wired networks, and this type of communication is protected, security of this being also improved a lot. this way the wireless technology become the optimal solution for implementing monitoring and control systems in the electro-energetic domain. this way the paper presents the general architecture of an integrated system for power supply for consumers without access to the low voltage line and the implementation of the hardware of the distributed wireless system, designed for remote monitoring the energy consumption and undesired events for many consumers. the wireless monitoring system is based on a third-generation SCADA architecture that contains local acquisition and control equipment for each individual consumer, one or more computers (servers) that centralize the monitored information and saves in a database and one or more computers running a client application to monitor the monitored parameters.

the Mobile Ad-hoc NETwork (MANET) is a dynamic network topology, which is mainly achieved by mobile nodes through peer-to-peer communication or packet forwarding. However, an efficient routing algorithm between nodes is necessary to be proposed due to lack of physical backbone. As a result, a popular method which is called Connected Dominating Set (CDS) is proposed to be a virtual backbone of a MANET. the main concept of CDS is to reduce the search space for the route to the mobile node in the set. Subsequently, the CDS can be invoked to as the virtual backbone of MANET to reduce the cost of routing information and enhance the scalability of the network. However, the most algorithms cannot find the minimum CDS in a MANET. therefore, the concept of nominate is used to our proposed algorithm to construct the minimum CDS in this paper. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

In this paper, we improve the performance of visual speech recognition in natural scenes based on spatial transformer networks. Visual speech recognition can be applied to authentication systems for liveness detection to avoid replay attacks and ensure security. Identity authentication based on visual speech recognition may be conducted anywhere on portable electronic devices. However, a great number of variations exist in natural scenes including diverse speakers’ poses, different distances towards the camera, occasional quiver of the lips, etc., which bring tremendous troubles for the recognition, leading to poorer performance of the authentication system. In view of the challenges, we introduce the spatial transformer networks (STN), which can help deal with variations, especially in complex natural scenes. Considering the characteristics of the lip feature, a new transformation network is proposed, which fuses the temporal and spatial information to generate transformation parameters. the well-designed network can be simply inserted into existing visual speech recognition approaches to implement end-to-end training. By taking temporal dependencies into consideration, a better transformation is performed to normalize the lip image sequences and difficulties of visual speech recognition in natural scene can thus be reduced, which is beneficial to the identity authentication system to enhance security. From the experimental results, it is demonstrated that a decreased word error rate can be achieved, particularly in natural scenes, when our approach is adopted.

When a user interested in a service/item, visits an online web-portal, it provides description of its interest through initial search keywords. the system recommends items based on these keywords. the user is satisfied if it finds the item of its choice and the system benefits, otherwise the user explores an item from the list. Usually when the user explores an item, it picks an item that is nearest to its interest from the list. While the user explores an item, the system recommends new list of items. this continues till either the user finds its interest or quits. In all, the user provides ample chances and feedback for the system to learn its interest. the aim of this paper is to exploit the user-generated responses in the same session. One can further utilize the history (e. g., previous user ratings) to design good recommendation policies. We develop algorithms that efficiently utilize user responses to recommended items and find the item of user's interest quickly. We first derive optimal policies in the continuous Euclidean space and adapt the same to the space of discrete items. In the continuous Euclidean space, the optimal recommendations (e. g., with two recommendations) at the same time step are at 180 degrees from each other, while are at 90 degrees with respect to the ones at the previous time step. We propose the notion of local angle in the space of discrete items and develop user response-local angle (UR-LA) based recommendation policies. We compared the performance of UR-LA with widely used collaborative filtering (CF) based policies on two real datasets and showed that UR-LA performs better in majority of the test cases. We also proposed a hybrid scheme that combines the best features of both UR-LA and CF (and history) based policies, which outperforms them in most of the cases.

Emerging private LTE and 5G services and applications have created need for local radio spectrum licensing. the existing pricing models for licenses do not work well in this context. this paper introduces three new location dependent valuation methods that aim to produce more accurate pricing for local licenses. We use FICORA Frequency Fee as our base-case general spectrum valuation model, and we replace the population density based location coefficient with proxies such as employee density, value added per employee, and rent prices. By comparing the differences in the prices yielded by the models, we show that the new models can in some cases identify high demand areas like hospitals and industrial districts better than the original population density based model. Additionally, we conclude that the original population density based model and the new employee density based model could be used together to capture both the consumer and the industrial spectrum demand simultaneously. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Mobile Ad Hoc networks (MANETs) are types of wireless networks that communicate with mobile devices without centralized infrastructures. MANET networks are established through interconnected devices that communicate wirelessly within a relatively small, shared area. In MANET every single mobile node is presumed to travel in all directions at different speeds with challenges and open issues. Hence there is no guaranteed long-term path from one node to the next. this work proposes testing the three most common ad hoc routing protocols Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV), Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Optimized Link State Routing Protocol (OLSR) using Optimized Network Engineering Tool (OPNET) Modeler simulations using the performance metrics of throughput, Delay, and Network loading to find an effective routing protocol for routing. the traffic network is used by the File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Digital Education, Battlefield, Surveillance and Security Agencies may benefit from the research work. MANETs reduced the costs of installation, maintenance and operation of such facilities as base stations and also reduced the risk to a minimum such as pollution. the outcome of the simulation shows that: according to the AODV and DSR, the lowest delay in 50 nodes was around 31.25 seconds respectively. And OLSR also had a high throughput performance of around 80 per cent compared with AODV and DSR. And it can be concluded that OLSR is the most suitable routing protocol for MANET, based on the routing protocols suggested.

the characteristics of sound and vibration are used to detecting the illegal logging of woods for those proposed approaches. In this paper, an improved design of vibration and sound sensing nodes is proposed to make the nodes operated more effectively. We establish an actual sawmill experiment to simulate the situation of sawing woods. the sleep vibration sensing section is waked up by the vibration, and the data of sound and vibration is transmitted by wireless networks. In addition to the magnitude of the vibration, we use the simple subtraction of two data to obtain the differential signal strength (DSM) as a feature of the vibration. the experiments show that the improved deign has sufficient identification performance and can detect the logging behavior effectively. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

this paper deals with the description of an effective solution for tele-monitoring and tele-assistance of diabetics patients which resorts to the use of the recently launched 5G cellular networks. the proposed solution allows the provision of a tele-monitoring service for chronic diabetic patients, which provides proactive remote interaction of the patient with a "Healthcare center". Moreover the paper shows the results of a recent experimentation which is based on the use of 5G network and has been realized in the town of Prato, Italy by presenting the results in terms of main performance indicators and describing the implemented e-health routines. Since these activities are achieved in the framework of one of the recent Italian pilot experimentations of the 5G networks, the presented e-Health services are one the first implementation that is based on this cellular system and take benefit of its outstanding performance. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Deep learning approaches to the classification and orientation estimation of 3D objects have not been so successful to date. the increased complexity of dealing with 3 axes orientation variations associated with individual objects is to be blamed. To date, the existing approaches have shown limitations in their capacity of handling orientation variations in trade-off with their performance. this paper presents a progressive framework of learning 3D objects in terms of their classes and 3D orientations that overcomes the above complexity induced trade-off. By a progressive framework, we mean that the object classification and the estimation of three axes of orientations are learned one after another progressively based on whatever learned previously as prior knowledge. the proposed framework, referred to here as 3D POCO Net, is configured with multiple point cloud based deep networks that are cascaded through the association of their learned global features. As a modular architecture, 3D POCO Net offers not only efficiency and generality in representation and training but also expandability due to the progressive nature of learning. the proposed 3D POCO Net is implemented for full 3 axes orientation variations and trained with about 2.4 million orientation variations generated from ModelNet10. the high accuracy in object classification and orientation estimation verified experimentally for a large scale of 3 axes orientation variations indicates that the proposed progressive learning approach is able to overcome the aforementioned complexity induced trade-off.
