Online emotional support systems provide free support to individuals who experience stress, anxiety, and depression by bridging individuals (i.e., users) with a crowd of voluntary paraprofessionals. While most users tend to legitimately seek mental support, others may engage maliciously by attacking volunteers with trolling, flaming, bullying, spamming, and phishing behaviors. Besides attacking the mental health of trained paraprofessionals, these suspicious activities also introduce threats against the long-term viability of the platform by discouraging new volunteers and encouraging current volunteers to leave. Towards curtailing suspicious users, we propose a novel system, namely TeaFilter, that effectively detects suspicious behaviors by integrating a collection of light-weight behavioral features together. We have performed extensive experiments based on real user data from 7 Cups, a leading online emotional support system in the world. Experimental results have demonstrated that our system can accomplish a high detection rate of 77.8% at a low false positive rate of 1%.

the Internet of things (IoT) represents a technical innovation that is already starting to play an important role in smarter water management, when a wide variety of sensors are incorporated into intelligent metering equipment and connected through wireless networks throughout the domiciliary water distribution network, being able to measure volume, flow, temperature, pressure, levels of chlorine, salinity and more. Water scarcity, aging or inadequate water distribution infrastructure, population variation, pollution, more intense and frequent droughts and floods, generate pressures that converge on the need to increase global investment in water infrastructures and to develop solutions for the conservation and management of water. the main stakeholders in the water distribution sector are the ones that can benefit most from the use of telemanagement. However, the results of adopting this innovation are contrary to expectations, with a slow change in traditional business models. the objective of this research is the construction of a value model that allows the identification of actors and value markets and the exchange of value related to the adoption of telemanagement in Portugal, having a solid theoretical basis and a real practical validation. In this paper we redefine the concept of Conversation Web in the context of hyper-personalization. We argue that hyper-personalization in the WWW is only possible within a conversational web where websites and users continuously "discuss" (interact in any way). We present a modular system architecture for the conversational WWW, given that adapting to various user profiles and multivariate websites in terms of size and user traffic is necessary, especially in e-commerce. Obviously there cannot be a unique fit-to-all algorithm, but numerous complementary personalization algorithms and techniques are needed. In this context, we propose PRCW, a novel hybrid approach combining offline and online recommendations using RFMG, an extension of RFM modeling. We evaluate our approach against the results of a deep neural network in two datasets coming from different online retailers. Our evaluation indicates that a) the proposed approach outperforms current state-of-art methods in small-medium datasets and can improve performance in large datasets when combined with other methods, b) results can greatly vary in different datasets, depending on size and characteristics, thus locating the proper method for each dataset can be a rather complex task, and c) offline algorithms should be combined with online methods in order to get optimal results since offline algorithms tend to offer better performance but online algorithms are necessary for exploiting new users and trends that turn up. this paper investigates the outage probability and reliable throughput of a multi-user wireless powered simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system. the multi-antenna power station (MPS) first transmits power to a single-antenna fog server (FS) and then, FS uses the harvested energy to broadcast the signals to multiple multi-antenna users (MUs). Power splitting receiver architecture is employed at each MU and the non-linear energy harvesting (EH) model is considered. For such a system, the closed-form expression of the outage probability is derived over Nakagami-m channel. Moreover, an asymptotic expression of the outage probability is presented for the high transmit power case. Based on this, the expression of the system reliable throughput is also analysed. Simulations demonstrate our presented theoretical results and show that the systems with the non-linear and the linear EH model have very different system performance behaviors. However, using the nonlinear EH model is able to avoid a fake system performance evaluation as it matches piratical EH circuits well compared with the linear one.

Due to increased demand in multimedia streaming over Internet, research focus is directed to derive new protocols with added features. these protocols can be best adjusted to multimedia traffic over the Internet. the operations of multimedia networks require fast and high processing communication systems, because sometimes prompt delivery of information is critical. the behavior of different transport protocol can affect the quality of service. the advancement in hardware technologies used at the physical layer and TCP/IP suite has made a great progress, but other layers could not progress with the same pace. this paper argues the challenges posed by multimedia traffic on other layers and their effect on the transport layer services. Numerous papers have illustrated transport protocols for multimedia networks in some preferred and particular scenarios. However, no one have discussed the effect of channel fading on these protocols. Six existing protocols and their performances under Nagagami-m channel are the theme of this paper with respect to suitability for multimedia applications, and the performances of these protocols have been evaluated. this paper concludes that extra effort are essential on the transport protocol for achieving better performance of multimedia networks which will fulfill the various necessities of evolving multimedia applications, specifically under fading channels. © Springer international Publishing AG 2018.

the paper considers the tasks and solutions for availability assessing and securing the Internet of things (IoT), in particular, the Smart Business Center (SBC) with wired communication networks. the goal of this paper is to develop and research of SBC availability models, taking into account the changes in power consumption modes in operating systems, denial-of-services (DDoS) attacks, patching for firewalls depending on the presence of software vulnerabilities, considering reliability of system components such as a server and a router. Comparison of several models of the IoT system availability has been made and recommendations have been formulated regarding the policy of patching. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

We address overdetermined systems of linear equations, where the number of unknowns is smaller than the number of equations so that only approximate solutions exist instead of exact solutions. Such systems are prevalent in many areas of science and engineering, and finding the optimal solutions is mathematically known as the linear least squares (LLS) problem. Real-world overdetermined systems are often large-scale and computationally expensive to solve. Consequently, we are interested in connecting the LLS problem with cloud computing, where a resource-constrained client outsources the problem to a powerful but untrusted cloud. Among several security considerations is that the input of and solution to the LLS problem usually contain the client's private information, which necessitates privacy-preserving outsourcing. In this paper, we present a construction called Sells, which employs a mathematical method called QR decomposition to solve the above problem, in a masked yet verifiable manner. One advantage of adopting QR decomposition is that in certain circumstances, solving a batch of LLS problems only requires fully executing Sells once, where certain intermediate result can be reused and the overall efficiency is greatly improved. theoretical analysis shows that our proposal is verifiable, recoverable, and privacy-preserving. Experiments demonstrate that a client can benefit from the scheme not only reduced computation cost but also accelerated problem solving.
