As an emerging technology, Cooperative Device to Device (CD2D) communication has been considered to alleviate capacity shortage problem. In a heterogeneous CD2D network, multiple homing mobile devices (MMDs) may act as relays for the cooperative communication of ordinary mobile devices (OMDs). Under this setting, how to provide incentive mechanisms and motivate MMDs to lease spare bandwidths and allocate OMDs to MMDs should be carefully studied. Meanwhile, the competition dynamics between MMDs should also be taken into account. We formulate the joint bandwidth allocation and relay selection problem as a two-stage game. In the first stage of the game, a non-cooperative game is used to model the competition among the relay MMDs in terms of shared bandwidth and price. the second stage of the game models the behavior of OMDs selecting MMDs by an evolutionary game. We prove the Nash equilibrium of the game. Extensive numerical analysis and simulation results demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Due to dramatically rising energy demand worldwide power system is often run near the operational and technical limits, where unexpected trivial disturbances can cause possibly massive blackouts. Cyber attacks on smart grid communication networks are one of the impending threats to cause large-scale cascading outage. In contrast to the traditional cyber attack protection techniques, this paper presents a recursive systematic convolutional code based defending technique from the signal processing perspective. this code introduces redundancy in the system for protecting the grid information. Furthermore, an optimal control law is designed to stabilize the power network. Specifically, the performance index for control is converted to a convex semidefinite programming problem. the proposed controller can work well for any initial values. the efficacy of the developed approach is verified through numerical simulations. Results show that the proposed strategy has stronger attack protection performance and the controller can stabilize the grid in a fairly short time. this approach provides a fundamental framework for the design of the smart grid energy management system and reliable communication infrastructure scheme with renewable integration applications.

the complexity and diversity of future energy systems will require co-simulation solutions that enable the integration of tools from multiple domains for research and development. We introduce an open-source framework, OpenBuildNet, for distributed co-simulation of large-scale smart energy systems. Using a loose-coupling approach to co-simulate parallel processes, it can leverage and seamlessly integrate specialized simulation and computation tools in a common platform. Users can therefore benefit from the capabilities of state-of-the-art and widely used tools in each domain. OpenBuildNet is scalable and highly flexible as it uses a decentralized architecture, message-based communication, and peer-to-peer data exchange between subsystem nodes. It also provides a set of easy-to-use software tools tailored for researchers and engineers. this paper presents the architecture and tool suite of OpenBuildNet, and demonstrates its usefulness in a case study of controlling multiple buildings for demand response.

Formerly protected by isolation, the operational technology (OT) networks have become connected to the information technology (IT) networks. this integration have exposed OT networks to a myriad of known and new threats. Due to the criticality of many of the industrial platforms monitored by OT networks, providing guidelines for security good practices, alongside with tools for security enforcement have become a strategic priority. In particular, several security editors are proposing dedicated firewalls for OT networks. To date, the trend has been towards extending IT firewalls to detect and filter industrial communication protocols. In this paper, we show through experimental study that security solutions borrowed from IT only partially fit OT requirements. Indeed, the OT networks have very different properties. We propose a new approach that pushes the stateful filtering to the operational level for a fine and tailored access control for SCADA networks. We show how to model operational-process-aware rules using the context paradigm in the OrBAC model. Besides, we discuss practical issues regarding the enforcement of such rules in the next generation of industrial firewalls.

In recent years, the Internet of things (IoT) has been an inseparable part of our lives. IoT is typically heterogeneous in nature and requires interconnection with different types of devices or "things". Being able to secure such a distributed environment is an onerous task. the heterogeneity of IoT, along with other factors, poses a challenge when it comes to securing communication between these devices. In this paper, we propose a novel IoT trust and reputation model that employs distributed probabilistic neural networks (PNNs) to classify trustworthy nodes from malicious ones. Our model tackles the cold start problem in IoT environments by predicting ratings for newly joined devices based on their characteristics and learns over time. Processing is completely distributed and is handled by the nodes themselves. this guarantees better availability, since there is no single point of failure. Moreover, our model can accommodate the various capabilities and types of IoT devices. Unlike other proposed models in the literature, our model provides different levels of security depending on the sensitivity of the data being transmitted.

Due to the upsurge of context-aware and proximity aware applications, device-to-device (D2D) enabled mobile cloud (MC) emerges as next step towards future 5G system. there are many applications for such MC based architecture but mobile data offloading is one of the most prominent one especially for ultra dense wireless networks. the proposed system exploits the short range links to establish a cluster based network between the nearby devices, adapts according to environment and uses various cooperation strategies to obtain efficient utilization of resources. We proposed a novel architecture of MC in which the total coverage area of a eNB is divided into several logical regions (clusters). Furthermore, UEs in the cluster are classified into Primary Cluster Head (PCH), Secondary Cluster Head (SCH) and Standard UEs (UEs). Each cluster is managed by selected PCH and SCH. An algorithm is proposed for the selection of PCH and SCH which is based on signal-to-interference-plus-noise (SINR) and residual energy of UEs. Finally each PCH and SCH distributes data in their respective regions by efficiently utilizing D2D links. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed D2D-enabled MC based approach yields significantly better gains in terms of data rate and energy efficiency as compared to the classical cellular approach.

the aging of the population is a matter of concern due to its association with various diseases in humans that limit their quality of life. Among them, glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. To its early diagnose, retinal fundus images are visually inspected by experts. In recent years, image-based computer aided diagnosis systems have been proposed. Automatic segmentation of Optic Disc (OD) and cup areas are their first and most difficult tasks. In this paper, a computerized technique aimed to their extraction from the original images is presented. the tool is related to human perception due to the use of an advanced color metric, CIE94 within a uniform color space, CIE L*a*b* to compute pixels’ color gradients [1]. Based on this information, a classifier assigns a probability value to each of the pixels, meaning its suitability for being part of the Optic Disc and Cup border. the tool has been tested on 200 images from different public databases achieving an accuracy value of 96.63%. this quality level makes the proposed color-based image processing system capable to assist the physicians in glaucoma screening programs. © Springer international Publishing AG 2017.

the ever-growing proliferation of wireless devices and technologies used for Internet of things (IoT) applications, such as patient monitoring, military surveillance, and industrial automation and control, has created an increasing need for methods and tools for connectivity prediction, information flow monitoring, and failure analysis to increase the dependability of the wireless network. Indeed, in a safety-critical Industrial IoT (IIoT) setting, such as a smart factory, harsh signal propagation conditions combined with interference from coexisting radio technologies operating in the same frequency band may lead to poor network performance or even application failures despite precautionary measures. Analyzing and troubleshooting such failures on a large scale is often difficult and time-consuming. In this paper, we share our experience in troubleshooting coexistence problems in operational IIoT networks by reporting on examples that show the possible hurdles in carrying out failure analysis. Our experience motivates the need for a userfriendly, automated failure analysis system, and we outline an architecture of such system that allows to observe multiple communication standards and unknown sources of interference. © 2016 IEEE.
