the faults in today's telecommunication systems happen frequently. the reason is simply the complexity of the telecommunication networks and other supported hardware. Various parts of the network may be supplied by various vendors, thus adding to the overall operational complexity. Furthermore these networks may consist of various types of networks, e.g. computer, switching, circuit and wireless networks, inter-operating. the result of such complexities is that a number of faults will happen over unit time intervals. Many of these faults may result in denial of service to the end users, consequently causing revenue losses to the telecommunication companies. therefore various fault prediction and correction techniques have been proposed. Most, if not all, of these techniques are based on analysis of the historical alarm logs. the Telecom Alarm Sequence Analyzer (TASA) project has proposed associate and episodal rules for historical alarms. We have practically applied TASA episodal rules to identify sequence of alarms and then used the probabilities of these alarm sequences to predict future sequences of alarms. We have used the proposed alarm prediction technique on the real time alarm data of a telecommunication company and predicted future alarms sequences. Furthermore we have compared the predicted alarms against the actual alarm sequences to check the accuracy of our technique. the proposed technique does not make any assumption about the alarm data. We have concluded that the proposed technique has practical usage for alarm prediction in telecommunication networks.

We focus on Cyclostationary spectrum sensing technique in order to increase the spectrum efficiency which will become essential for cognitive radios. Static allocation of the frequency spectrum does not meet the growing demands of current wireless technology that's why spectrum sensing and dynamic allocation will become indispensible part of future wireless networks. Cognitive radio can sense the spectrum and detect the idle frequency bands which are allocated to primary users, if not; secondary users can be allocated unoccupied frequency bands in order to avoid any interference. Our primary goal is to develop efficient way of sensing holes for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems for spectrum sharing regimes. Using Cyclostationary features we are able to detect primary user. Here Cyclostationary features for primary user detection are exploited through AWGN communication channel with various noise levels. We have considered an OFDM system and exploited its parameters to examine how it relates to primary user detection and its detection probability with various different noise levels is calculated.

In our previous study we have developed an e-learning course evaluation survey that included 73 items related to the following groups of characteristics: e-learning course content, assessment and self-assessment of knowledge, multimedia and user-interface, communication, personalization, orientedness toward the user, technical and system elements, and general characteristics of the course. this paper brings the results of the empirical evaluation of our survey on a convenience sample of 259 students. the Cronbach alpha coefficients for the evaluation scales of this survey were calculated and two different methods were also used to validate the measurement instrument: Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) and Partial Least Squares (PLS) SEM. As a result, a valid and reliable measurement model was created that can be used for improvement of individual online courses.

In early 20th century when technology evolve, the performance of systems suffered from the problems of complexity, increasing cost of maintenance and software of hardware failure caused by unpredictable behavior and poor manageability. this fostered researchers to discover new design and techniques that enable the systems to operate autonomously. In 2001, IBM introduces self-managing capabilities (self-organizing, self-healing, self-optimization and self-protection) with autonomous behavior. In this survey, the main concerns are self-healing autonomic computing. Self-healing is an autonomic computing system that detects and diagnoses errors without the need of human intervention. A number of concepts, techniques and functions have been developed in different application areas of self-healing. this survey gives an overview about some approaches and solutions of past and current research in self-healing classified to operating system, routing, security and web services. these proposed approaches and solutions were developed to solve the problems that arise in manual intervention system. To achieve the perfect of self-healing behaviors, its remains an open and significant challenge that can be accomplished through a combination of process changes, new technologies and architecture and open industry standards.

Cognitive radio (CR) is the enabling technology for dynamic spectrum access, which may potentially mitigate the radio spectrum scarcity problem encountered in many countries. this paper is concerned with power allocation spectrum sharing CR networks, where a secondary user (SU) communicates simultaneously over the same frequency band with an existing primary users (PUs) link. In addition, this method uses PU feedback information. It is assumed that the SU transmitter has the perfect channel state information (CSI) on the fading channels from SU transmitter to both PU and SU receivers, as well as the fading channel from PU transmitter to PU receiver. Furthermore, the proposed method takes into account the statistical variation of the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) of each transmitter/receiver pair and optimally allocates power to minimize probability of fading-induced outage probability. Such approaches can guarantee convergence towards the optimal solution with an acceptable convergence speed. therefore, equipment designers and system operators can use their judgment to find the best SU pairs to meet their specific needs. Simulation results are provided for the optimal power control performance.

On March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake, with a magnitude of 9.0, struck in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of northeastern Japan's Tohoku region. It was the fourth-strongest earthquake in recorded history, and triggered a giant tsunami that inflicted enormous damage along Japan's eastern seaboard. In some areas, the tsunami waves topped 15 meters and destroyed buildings and geographical features. Under these conditions, most communication lines were rendered unusable, so collecting of information on the disaster area's status by the national, and even local, government was difficult. To support the countrywide rescue and relief operation, the National Institute of Information and communications Technology (NICT) structured a satellite link between the disaster-hit area in Miyagi and Tokyo by using the Wideband InterNetworking Engineering Test and Demonstration Satellite (WINDS). the communication line of about 30Mbps was configured by using a transportable VSAT with a 1.0 m diameter antenna and 40W high-power amplifier. On this line, a high definition TV conference system, IP phone, and file transfer tools are operated along with Internet connectivity. these systems enabled the situation to be understood and instruction to be given in the disaster-hit areas. In this paper, we present the communication system structured using WINDS for this support, and discuss the requested system at the time of the disaster.

With the emergence of Internet of things (IoT), many things which typically used to be isolated or operated in small local networks, will be interconnected through the Internet. One main challenge to tackle in IoT is efficient management of communication between things, since things can be very different in terms of available resources, size and communication protocols. Current Internet-enabled devices are typically powerful enough to rely on common operating systems, standard network protocols and middlewares. In IoT many devices will be too constrained to rely on such resource-consuming infrastructures; they run ad-hoc proprietary protocols. the contribution of this paper is a modelbased approach for the efficient provisioning and management of the communication between heterogeneous resource-constrained devices. It includes a DSML which compiles to a set of interoperable communication libraries providing an abstract communication layer that can integrate both powerful and resource-constrained devices. the approach is implemented in an IDE for the development resource-constrained things.

It has been proposed that the use of speed and position information from a subset of vehicles in the traffic (probe vehicles) can provide for accurate traffic information. Furthermore, it can be seen as an economic and scalable alternative to the use of inductive loop detectors, cameras and radars. However, the impact of the communications channel performance in the estimation of the traffic states has been insufficiently studied. In this work we propose the use of the Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) paradigm to develop a Vehicular Sensor Network (VSN) in order to obtain accurate traffic information from a few probe vehicles. the problems that plague WSNs are 1) the deployment is to cope with the variations of the measured field, the Space-Time-Velocity (STV) field and 2) the communications channel influences data collection reliability. In order to assess these two issues, we perform 1) accurate simulation of discrete vehicular traffic in order to obtain spatiotemporal patterns that closely mimic traffic congestion and 2) accurate simulation of Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) wireless communications. We obtain experimental evidence that with a Fraction of Sensor Vehicles (FSV) as low as 1% we are able to obtain accurate measurements of traffic congestion accounting for Packet Loss from Rayleigh fading, Doppler spreading and multihop relaying. We present results for different FSVs and RoadSide wireless bridge (RSU) densities and assess that, for FSVs of 10% and RSU densities half the usual detector densities, the reconstructed STV fields are virtually indistinguishable from the ground truth.

In the industrial and automotive appliances, distributed systems are more and more frequently used. they require the coordinate action of several units for the systems to operate correctly. therefore the units must exchange each other information on their activities and this is done through serial communication networks. CAN is a simple protocol that rules the operation of these networks. However, the native CAN does not have such features like determinism and fault tolerance, which are required by safety-critical appliances. To get round of the CAN limitations, there are two solutions, namely the recourse to the so-called time-triggered (TT) protocols or the supplement of the native CAN with ad-hoc developed application protocols. After reviewing the CAN limitations, the paper discusses at first the TT protocols and then the application protocols enhancing determinism and fault tolerance of the CAN networks. At last, a novel CAN application protocol that outperforms the existing ones is outlined.
