IP telephony has many advantages over traditional PSTN telephony. these advantages are mostly manifested in the possibility of implementing many new services as well as in the network capacity saving. the focus of this paper is the IP network transfer capacity savings analysis. IP network completely replaces the PSTN network. Also, the influence of the voice activity detection technique and VoIP packet header compression technique on the additional saving of the required IP network transportation capacity is analyzed. the analysis is performed on the basis of the simulation measurements results which have been obtained by the originally developed application PlanVoip. the obtained results of the simulation measurements are presented in the analytical and graphic form.

A multi-agent system (MAS) approach on wireless sensor networks (WSNs) comprising sensor-actuator nodes is very promising as it has the potential to tackle the resource constraints inherent in these networks by efficiently coordinating the activities among the nodes. In this paper, we consider the coordinated sensing coverage problem and study the behavior and performance of four distributed reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms: (i) fully distributed Q-learning, (ii) Distributed Value Function (DVF), (iii) Optimistic DRL, and (iv) Frequency Maximum Q-learning (FMQ). We present results from simulation studies and actual implementation of these DRL algorithms on Crossbow Mica2 motes, and compare their performance in terms of incurred communication and computational costs, energy consumption and the achieved level of sensing coverage. Issues such as convergence to local or global optima, as well as speed of convergence are also considered. these implementation results show that the DVF agents outperform other agents in terms of both convergence and energy consumption.

In this paper we present a novel load distribution strategy for scheduling divisible loads on linear networks, when the speeds of the computing nodes and the speeds of the communication links are unknown. this practical assumption is captured in our problem formulation and we present a novel strategy, referred to as early start strategy (ESS), to generate a load distribution. Our strategy estimates the speed parameters and takes distinct advantage in utilizing a processor that responds earliest in the computation and including other fast processors in a progressive manner in phases to minimize the overall processing time. We analyze the strategy under several influencing parameters such as, load size, network size, and probe load size. We present simulation studies to validate all the theoretical findings and quantify the performance of our strategy

DHTs are efficient peer-to-peer systems which can locate objects within an bounded amount of overlay hops. Originally, those systems don't exploit network proximity in the underlying Internet and lead to high latency when searching a target. Recently, some approaches, such as random landmarking (RLM) and lookup-parasitic random sampling (LPRS), have been suggested to build topology-aware overlay to improve the lookup efficiency. Although these approaches help the nodes in P2P system to be aware of the underlying network, they do a limited improvement because of their proximity neighbor selection. In this paper, a hashing landmark clusters (HLC) method is proposed to improve the performance of chord by improving the accuracy of proximity mapping between overlay network and physical network. the analysis demonstrates that our approach can reduce the lookup latency better than RLM & LPRS can

the increasing development of the wireless MAN technologies will allow the exchange of services directly among subscriber stations. In order to keep the network scalability, schemes to assure the safety of services should preferably adopt a distributed architecture, such as the reputation systems architectures, commonly used in peer-to-peer networks. Reputation systems have the goal of evaluating individual peers, relying on their previous interactions in the network. We propose the use of a service-oriented reputation system based on fuzzy logic, as a solution to increase the security at the service level of a wireless MAN. the paper presents the description of the proposed system and the simulations performed to evaluate it in a wireless network environment

We present a study on planning and management in 4G networks. the deployment of next generation networks is driven by the proliferation and integration of radio access technologies. this will enable cooperation between access networks based on the reallocation of users across different systems. Inter-system user reallocation will open a new research field: cross system engineering. We break into this ambitious concept with a deep analysis of the impact of inter-system cooperation. the main goal of our study is to measure the cost of serving users that only have CDMA coverage and suffer outage because the cellular system is overloaded. An option to serve these users is to make space for them (in the CDMA network) by reallocating served CDMA users to an overlaid IEEE 802.11-based network. However, this reallocation process has associated costs such as impact on performance and signalling overhead. thus, care is needed in making space in the cellular network. Our main contribution is the thorough analysis of inter-system user reallocation in 4G networks by simulating different reallocation strategies

this paper presents the design and evaluation of Meghadoot - a hybrid wireless network architecture that provides improved services, such as better connectivity among the users, efficient routing, and access to the Internet. Meghadoot architecture combines the advantages of both single-hop and multi-hop wireless networks. Meghadoot is extremely useful (a) as an alternative to existing wired or wireless last mile solutions, (b) to establish a network in a residential complex or in a university campus. the Meghadoot architecture has been implemented and tested in both the NS2 simulator and in the Linux kernel. Both, experimental and simulation results show an improved performance for Meghadoot, in terms of reduction in control overhead and increase in throughput over that of the existing approaches

3G and beyond cellular mobile wireless networks are expected to provide a diverse range of multimedia services to mobile users with guaranteed quality of service (QoS). In this paper, a novel dynamic priority-oriented call admission control (DP-CAC) for 3G wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) systems is proposed and investigated. Two important concepts, i.e. the current load occupied by each traffic class (O) and the predefined fixed load partition for each traffic class (L), are investigated and used to derive the priority of each traffic class dynamically. this dynamic prioritization call admission control (DP-CAC) scheme combines QoS negotiation, service differentiation and efficient utilization of the system resources. Simulation is conducted by C++ to study the performance of the proposed DP-CAC in terms of system utilization, and grade of service (GoS). Results indicate the superiority of DP-CAC as it is able to achieve a better balance between system utilization, revenue and quality of service provisioning

Future wireless links for many emerging applications such as peer-to-peer collaboration but also as a wireless extension of existing fiber networks will require increased bandwidth compared to current WLANs/WPANs. the lack of unoccupied bandwidth and the potential to modulate increased carrier frequencies with multi-gigabit data rates will push their operation frequencies above 100 GHz. Based on measurements and ray-tracing simulations we discuss technology and propagation constraints of such systems that will have to rely on directed transmission. We show that dielectric mirrors covering parts of the walls will enhance the signal coverage in a typical indoor scenario.
