In the paper a new application of the Bluetooth wireless protocol is presented Bluetooth is used as an element of the system for integrated, centralized control of the digital devices in the multimedia home platform. the main part of the system is the multimedia gateway withthe HTTP server inside. In the system there are also personal communication assistants (PCA), a special kind of remote control withthe Bluetooth protocol applied to them. the PCA is used to communicate between user and multimedia gateway. the aim of the system is centralization of services in the multimedia gateway using servlet technology.

Broadband wireless communications are going to be deployed widely due to the introduction of the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (IMT/2000), which is based on wideband-code division multiple access (W-CDMA) techniques. Adaptive blind multiuser detection, proposed for the mobile station receiver, reaches the optimum solution after a certain number of bit times. We propose the implementation on a fixed point digital signal processor (DSP) architecture of the adaptive blind algorithm based on a neural approach. A modified Kennedy-Chua (1988) neural network, based on the Hopfield model, is proposed, and its implementation on a fixed point numerical environment has been studied by means of computer simulation. Finally we discuss a medium level implementation of the algorithm on a Texas Instruments DSP.

In this paper we describe a distributed home monitoring and control system using microcontrollers as device controllers. A host computer acts as a master and client manages the activities of the microcontrollers by instructing them to control their respective devices and collecting data from them. the host and microcontrollers communicate over a Local Area Network (LAN) via Network Interface Card (NICs). the devices can be regular house utilities or appliances. We borrow from the Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments (SCPI) to design the command packets that are exchanged between the host and the microcontrollers. We present the architecture and design of the microcontroller's communication software and illustrate how it communicates by mean of commands and data to the host. We present performance results in terms of TCP packet round trip time and timing of UDP packet transmission.

Adaptive equalizers are widely used in many communicationsystems where the channel frequency response characteristics are either time varying or unknown such as the case in wireless and dial up telecommunicationnetworks where the communication channel constantly change due to the different packet routes and switching that takes place, as well as due to the changes in the RF propagation. this work presents an enhancement to the well known linear adaptive equalizer by means of the transform least mean squares (TLMS) algorithms which exploit the usefulness of transforms such as the discrete wavelets transform (DWT), discrete cosine transform (DCT), discrete Hartley transform (DHT), and discrete Fourier transform (DFT). the use of the TLMS is compared to the standard least mean squares (LMS) algorithm and the advantages are shown via time domain simulations and eigenvalue ratio computations of the maximum over minimum eigenvalue of the autocorrelation matrix of the transform domain input signal for each of the transforms studied. Among those advantages are faster convergence speeds, and better time and frequency characteristics.

this paper describes the RF-related system and radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) issues of 3G wideband-CDMA (W-CDMA) systems like UMTS, technologies that will play a major role in the future of wireless telecommunications, allowing for networks which will add broadband data to support video, Internet access, and other high speed data services for untethered devices. Various classes of traffic generated by different applications expect and accept various quality of service (QoS) level determining various amounts of required network resources. Limited network resources and different qualitative and quantitative requirements naturally give the reasons to differentiate quality of network services - quality of communication (QoC). Acceptability of different QoC in networks leads to better resources utilisation and increase customer satisfaction. the differentiation of QoC is possible due to layered and nested structure of computer systems. Such concept of QoC is based on assumption, that communication task (formulated at the application level) might be decomposed into simpler communication tasks, while the latter might be transformed into proper data transfer tasks relevant to particular layers of architecture.
