In this paper, we propose an adaptive waveform design and optimization scheme for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. We modify the transmitted waveform to improve the degraded sensing performance caused by the randomness of the original communication waveform. Specifically, we utilize the spacial, time, and frequency resources unoccupied by the communication to transmit sensing paddings. Based on the modified transmitted waveform, we derive its sensing mutual information (MI), which is applied as a performance metric to optimize the waveform. By maximizing the sensing MI, we obtain the closed-form solution of the optimal waveform and its precoding matrix. Finally, we verify numerically that the proposed scheme brings significant improvement to sensing performance.

this article proposes a new Artificial Intelligent (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) based framework for 6G-enabled Intelligent edge computing. the framework will be equipped with multiple cognitive controllers to harmoniously control various aspects in distributed intelligence toward edge nodes collaboration. Autonomic cognitive controller for edge computing is a popular computing paradigm where the distributed metadata processing and edge intelligence are performed at edge node in 5G/6G network for management, connectivity and interoperability. Some of studies focused on edge management improvement such as reduce the response time and bandwidth costs. However, the previous approaches are inadequate to support autonomously management for large-scale deployment for connectivity for dynamic and reliable communication. We propose a cognitive controller for edge autonomy and collaboration application development. Finally, we discuss challenges and open issues toward cognitive controller and distributed edge intelligence. © 2023 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

Human activity recognition (HAR) and user identification utilizing smartphone sensors are crucial in domains such as wellness tracking, tailored services, and security. Conventional approaches handle these activities as distinct entities, leading to less-than-ideal performance and restricted applicability. this research presents a novel deep multi-Task learning network that simultaneously performs activity recognition and user identification using smartphone sensor data. By leveraging shared representations and task-specific information, the network enhances accuracy. It combines a shared convolutional neural network (CNN) with bidirectional long short-Term memory (BiLSTM) layers to extract features from raw sensor data. the CNN identifies patterns, while the BiLSTM captures sequential dependencies and contextual information. these features are processed by fully connected layers for both activity recognition and user identification. A multi-Task loss function is proposed to optimize both tasks based on their complexity and importance. the approach is tested on the UCI-HAR dataset, containing diverse activities from multiple users. Experimental results show that the proposed CNN-BiLSTM model achieves 97.64% accuracy in activity recognition and 82.59% in user identification, surpassing current state-of-the-Art methods. this demonstrates the effectiveness of the multi-Task learning framework and the advantage of using the shared CNN-BiLSTM architecture for improving both tasks. © 2025 the Author(s).

this study aims to improve the provision of services in a multi-client oriented system, the integrated incoming flow of requests from which has a dynamic, unpredictable nature of varying intensity and distribution. To serve such flows when using cloud environments, automatic scaling is typically recommended. However, in some applications, these methods require improvements in terms of response time and system resilience in case of sudden changes in input flows. In this work, a model of automatic scaling is proposed, which involves the collection and special processing of additional metrics. these metrics measure the actual state of incoming integrated requests from multiple customers. Based on metrics, at a certain point in time an alarm is raised, which causes the activation of an additional server or its removal. Considering additional indicators, it is possible to update the network infrastructure more flexibly. In the developed implementation, the hotel business is chosen as an example, but the proposed approach can be used for applications with similar requirements in different areas of human activity. © 2024 the Authors.

Early recognition of clinical deterioration (CD) has vital importance in patients’ survival from exacerbation or death. Electronic health records (EHRs) data have been widely employed in Early Warning Scores (EWS) to measure CD risk in hospitalized patients. Recently, EHRs data have been utilized in Machine Learning (ML) models to predict mortality and CD. the ML models have shown superior performance in CD prediction compared to EWS. Since EHRs data are structured and tabular, conventional ML models are generally applied to them, and less effort is put into evaluating the artificial neural network’s performance on EHRs data. thus, in this article, an extremely boosted neural network (XBNet) is used to predict CD, and its performance is compared to eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) and random forest (RF) models. For this purpose, 103,105 samples from thirteen Brazilian hospitals are used to generate the models. Moreover, the principal component analysis (PCA) is employed to verify whether it can improve the adopted models’ performance. the performance of ML models and Modified Early Warning Score (MEWS), an EWS candidate, are evaluated in CD prediction regarding the accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and geometric mean (G-mean) metrics in a 10-fold cross-validation approach. To address the challenges of providing real-time guidance during surgical procedures and fully utilizing preoperative lesion data information intraoperatively, we propose an augmented reality-based, knowledge-guided method for surgical procedures. Our approach includes designing semantic segmentation algorithms for medical images to achieve accurate segmentation of lesion tissues. Using the segmentation results, we locate tissues and organs, perform surgical path planning after 3D reconstruction, and ultimately generate a virtual knowledge model that includes semantic information about lesions and preoperative planning methods. To align the virtual surgical knowledge model with the patient's lesion site in the real surgical environment, we establish a portable high-precision augmented reality display system with external depth cameras. We use joint calibration, point cloud alignment, and wireless communication transmission to improve the augmented reality device's scene perception capability and achieve the precise integration of virtual and real objects in holographic projection. the experiment results show that the surgical guidance method proposed in this article can provide rich surgical information and has high registration accuracy, which is helpful for doctors to perform surgical operations. © 2024 IEEE.

Most sequential recommendation systems, including those that employ a variety of features and state-of-the-art network models, tend to favor items that are the most popular or of greatest relevance to the historic behavior of the user. Recommendations made under these conditions tend to be repetitive;i.e., many options that might be of interest to users are entirely disregarded. this paper presents a novel algorithm that assigns a novelty score to potential recommendation items. We also present an architecture by which to incorporate this functionality in existing recommendation systems. In experiments, the proposed NASM system outperformed state-of-the-art sequential recommender systems, thereby verifying that the inclusion of novelty score can indeed improve recommendation performance. © 2022 IEEE.

Semantic segmentation, a prominent deep-learning technique in computer vision, involves the assignment of specific labels or categories to each pixel within an image. this advanced approach goes beyond traditional image classification by dividing the image into multiple segments and offering precise labeling for individual pixels. this pixel-level categorization facilitates a comprehensive understanding of the image’s content, thereby enabling precise object localization. Semantic segmentation finds wide-ranging applications across various domains, including autonomous driving, medical imaging, and satellite imagery analysis. It stands as a fundamental component in the quest to enable machines to perceive and interpret visual data in a manner analogous to human perception. the ability to categorize pixels at such a granular level empowers computer vision systems to attain a high level of scene comprehension, enabling them to discern between different objects and their boundaries. this enhanced understanding of the visual world supports sophisticated tasks such as object detection, instance segmentation, and scene parsing. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.

the importance of data security and data analysis strategies for Big Data has recently altered as a result of an enormous amount of data and its continual expansion. An intrusion detection system (IDS) is a device that keeps track of and examines data in order to find intrusions in networks and other systems. the data analysis process is exceedingly complex and requires a huge volume, variety, and speed of data to detect assaults using traditional methods. In order to achieve the goal of effective system protection, intrusion redirection technology has been used to identify potentially harmful access for traceless forwarding and forward it to a honeypot (HP) scheme. From a unique standpoint, HP method is a form of active defensive system that uses enticement to lure invaders so that more data may be collected. In the Apache Flink environment, this article describes a novel intrusion detection method called Big Data Enabled Intrusion Detection with Honeypot Intelligence System (BDE-IDHIS). the BDE-IDHIS technique seeks to first detect the presence of intrusions thereafter diverting traffic to the HP system for effective security of the actual system. Moreover, the MQTT Honeypot with Decision Engine and Redirection Engine is used in the BDE-IDHIS method. In addition, Apache Flink is utilized in this study to manage huge data settings. A number of experiments are used to test the experimental result analysis of the BDE-IDHIS technique, and the results are then examined from a variety of angles. the experimental outcomes stated the better performance of the BDE-IDHIS technique over other existing techniques. © 2023 IEEE.

this paper proposes an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay technique for wireless single carrier frequency domain equalizer (SC-FDE) systems. the relaying scenario assumes that there are many nodes densely distributed, allowing two or more relay nodes to participate in relaying. the proposed method aims to enhance time and frequency diversity gain in slow fading channels. To this end, we propose to use random phase rotation and random intentional delay at each relay over time. Performance validation is conducted through simulation. By increasing the number of relay nodes, the simulation results demonstrate a notable enhancement in the bit error rate (BER) performance. © 2023 IEEE.
