Over the past decade, machine learning models have enabled significant technical achievements in a variety of fields, however the application of these models is an area of active research and development in conventional and regulated industries, which are often more cautious to adopt new technologies. In this paper, a case study is presented where various statistical and machine learning models, including logistic regression, random forest, gradient-boosted decision trees, and artificial neural networks are trained and validated using a historical incident record dataset to quantify the probability of pipe failure on a distribution pipeline system. the relative performance of each model type is compared against a held-out test dataset using an evaluation framework that utilizes lift charts to quantify each model's performance. Observed strengths and limitations of the different model types are discussed with respect to performance, interpretability, and ease of incorporating additional data, along with key considerations for fitting and evaluating models. Additional case studies are also presented to illustrate how model performance depends on the quantity of training data and predictor features. these additional cases illustrate the benefit of continually collecting and leveraging asset data, as well as the benefit of augmenting existing asset data with external datasets, such as those obtained from public geospatial datasets. the results of this study will provide operators with additional insights and guidance in developing and evaluating machine learning models for pipeline risk assessment and integrity management.

this paper addresses the wireless PPM (pulse position modulation) system for the advanced energy-efficient Internet-of-things (IoT) communication. For the wireless IoT communication applications, a new long-range energy efficient IoT communication technology is critically necessary for the minimum power loss because of the battery problem. therefore, an advanced energy-efficient wireless PPM system has been proposed to minimize power loss. In this paper, the reduction of inter-symbol interference (ISI) and data collisions within the limited narrow bandwidth, information, and header terms are presented in the form of pulses. the distinction between the middle and start pulse trains is the header and the gap among the end and middle pulse trains are the data/information. the narrow pulses of the system will transmit a reasonable amount of data by which it will achieve the optimum amount of energy savings. As a result, the probability of data collision within the network will be lower due to the reduction of air-on time. Basically, the communication will be performed in such transmission of information signals agreement, and all the zero time duration between the pulses is the core power-saving effect. the calculated total cycle time of the proposed system is 0.1067 ms during 915 MHz ISM band frequency. In this way, the proposed system will be more energy efficient than the previous systems. © 2023 IEEE.

the random access protocol is a critical technique widely used in various wireless networks. A significant challenge is analyzing the stability of the random access system when a large number of users transmit packets independently. Although the congestion control policy can enhance the stability of the system, there is currently a lack of quantitative analysis on the stability of random access with congestion control. In this paper, we analyze the random access system with congestion control and quantify its stability. Specifically, we consider a congestion control scheme to enhance the stability of the random access system and present the graphical analytical model. Based on this graphical model, we qualitatively discuss the behavioral variations of the system as it works and quantify its stability. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.

Terahertz (thz) band communication is a promising technology for the 6G wireless networks. However, due to very high spread attenuation and molecular absorption, thz frequencies provide a limited coverage area and need novel solutions to overcome these constraints. Further, intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS) is introduced to enhance the coverage area by reconfiguring the wireless propagation environment. therefore, in this paper, an IRS-assisted thz system is designed and analyzed and referred to as IRS-th system. the proposed IRS-th significantly improves bit error rate (BER) performance by passive beamforming at the IRS panel. Impact of IRS-th parameters such as different phase shifting methods, the position of IRS panel, and line-of-sight path is studied. Exhaustive simulation results show that the proposed IRS-th can significantly enhance BER and sum-rate performance as compared to conventional thz system without IRS.

Despite the growing demand for digital therapeutics for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), there is currently no speech corpus available for Korean children with ASD. this paper introduces a speech corpus specifically designed for Korean children with ASD, aiming to advance speech technologies such as pronunciation and severity evaluation. Speech recordings from speech and language evaluation sessions were transcribed, and annotated for articulatory and linguistic characteristics. three speech and language pathologists rated these recordings for social communication severity (SCS) and pronunciation proficiency (PP) using a 3-point Likert scale. the total number of participants will be 300 for children with ASD and 50 for typically developing (TD) children. the paper also analyzes acoustic and linguistic features extracted from speech data collected and completed for annotation from 73 children with ASD and 9 TD children to investigate the characteristics of children with ASD and identify significant features that correlate with clinical scores. the results reveal some speech and linguistic characteristics in children with ASD that differ from those in TD children or another subgroup of ASD categorized by clinical scores, demonstrating the potential for developing automatic assessment systems for SCS and PP. © 2024 ELRA Language Resource Association: CC BY-NC 4.0.

In a world full of interconnected devices and ever-changing technologies, there is no wonder that threats prevail in cyberspace. Botnets represent one of the major Internet threats, as they are networks of infected devices that can be remotely controlled by attackers. To raise the level of preparedness against such threats by anticipating possible advanced botnets that may arise in cyberspace, this paper introduces a novel botnet architecture, based on a centralized structure in which the single point of failure problem is eliminated using a customized command and control protocol. the proposed architecture is considered hybrid, as it combines features of the centralized topology with features of the decentralized one. An implementation of the proposed botnet is also included, showing the efficiency of the botnet in commands dissemination and its recovery capacity. © 2022 IEEE.

Index modulation (IM) is one of the potential options for enhancing system resilience against jamming attacks in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this paper, to shed light on its capacity for secure wireless communication, we evaluate the resistance of the OFDM-IM system against jamming attacks, compared to the traditional OFDM system. Specifically, our investigation delves into a practical resource mapping scenario, considered in 5G cellular standards. Our finding is that the advantage of the OFDM-IM system over the conventional OFDM system diminishes as the jamming power increases, but the OFDM-IM system still exhibits its robustness against jamming attacks when the influence of the jamming signals is confined to a small number of subcarriers. © 2023 IEEE.

With the increase in maritime activities, traditional communication methods can no longer meet the needs of today’s maritime work, and the use of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) relay communications in marine scenarios has attracted more and more attention. In this paper, A long-distance three-node two-hop UAV relay system for maritime users is investigated. the UAV aerial relay node first transmits an energy-carrying radio frequency (RF) signal to the maritime user node, which then harvests energy and sends data information back to the UAV aerial relay node, which in turn forwards it to the land node. Considering the peculiarities of maritime communication channels, a novel land-air-maritime communication channel model is proposed. Utilizing Zero-Forcing/Zero-Transmission (ZFR/ZFT) technology, a precoding matrix for the aerial relay node is designed, followed by simulation and emulation, the performance of the channel is tested in the case of different transmission power of relay nodes or different number of antennas of relay nodes. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2025.

LoRaWAN provides a long-range communication among IoT devices. Since a LoRaWAN gateway becomes a bridge between LoRaWAN nodes and back-end server, it could has potential security risks. We present an anomaly detection system to secure LoRa Wangateway devices by evaluating incoming packet data. To evaluate our proposed system, we build machine learning models using various outlier detection algorithms. We construct and evaluate LoRaWAN dataset from LoRaWAN gateway devices. the simulation and experimental results show that machine learning to address anomaly detection on constrained LoRa Wandevices guarantees feasibility, accu-racy and performance. © 2022 IEEE.

With the acceleration of major national strategic deployments such as "Digital China" and "Network Power", the digital transformation of state-owned enterprises has become the general trend. In accordance with the development goals of the "14th Five-Year Plan" power communication network, the power grid company has put forward specific requirements for the digital transformation of power communication. At present, there are problems such as untimely fault response, large fault warning error and low accuracy in the power information communication network. this paper proposes a research on the carrying capacity prediction of the digital twin power information communication network based on the CNN- GRU neural network. the digital twin model collects historical and real-time carrying capacity data, predicts the carrying capacity data in different time periods through the CNN-GRU neural network, finds nodes with abnormal carrying capacity, and handles faults in time. Accurately predict the carrying capacity, so as to realize early warning of power information and communication network failures
