Active reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technique has recently been proposed to compensate for the severe "multiplicative fading" effect in the traditional passive RIS-aided systems. this work explores a practical issue in the active RIS-aided systemsthat system rate and RIS transmit power expressions need the knowledge of independent CSI of RIS reflection channels, however, which cannot be estimated due to the lack of signal processing ability of active RIS. Under this practical limitation, we exploit a rate outage constrained beamforming problem, which is solved by using the Bernstein-Type inequality (BTI) and semidefinite relaxation (SDR) techniques. Numerical results show that, compared withthe scenario without RIS, active RIS can bring hundreds of times performance gain, while passive RIS can only improve ten to dozens of times performance gain.

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is an emerging signal improvement technique, which can enhance the performance of various communication technologies. Inspired by RIS technology, this paper proposes an RIS-assisted radio frequency/free space optical (RF/FSO) communication system for the hybrid satellite-terrestrial network (HSTRN). An RF source is set up on the ground to transmit electrical signals to the RIS, which further reflects the signals via an RF link to the relay satellite. the square generalized K distribution model is adopted for the RF link and the EG distribution, which is a weighted sum of the exponential and Gamma distributions, is adopted for the FSO link. the exact closed-form expressions of outage probability and average bit error rate (ABER) are derived. Furthermore, the asymptotic expressions of outage probability and ABER at high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are derived for engineering applications. Finally, the simulation results show that the RIS technique can significantly improve the performance of the RF/FSO communication system for HSTRN, and the performance improvement is more obvious with more reflectors.

A new dual-polarization corrugated horn antenna operating in Ka-band is proposed in this paper. It consists of corrugated horn, mode converter and dual-polarization ortho-mode transducer (OMT). the corrugated horn uses only six axial slots to produce a symmetrical radiation pattern. the OMT uses a double-ridge waveguide structure and is fed by a standard WR-28 waveguide. the simulation and measurement results show that the horn antenna covering 24-50 GHz has the characteristics of VSWR is less than 2, isolation is better than 40 dB.
