After 20 years of learnings and successful risk reduction, the pipeline industry is striving to achieve the next step change in risk performance by migrating from relative index-based risk models toward probabilistic approaches across all threats and all pipeline segments for system-wide risk assessment. While the quantification of pipeline risk can be readily supported by in-line inspection (ILI) results coupled with probabilistic limit state modeling for certain threats and pipeline segments where this information is available, where such data is lacking for other pipeline segments or threats, it is necessary to apply a meaningful methodology to establish the probability of failure for all dynamic segments used to quantify risk. the process for establishing probability-based threat assessments for these other segments involves several stages: (1) identify correlations based on ILI historical results (i.e., create the "training" dataset);(2) leverage classification trees to identify statistically relevant data observations of key variables;(3) apply machine learning techniques to develop probabilistic and/or causal models that predict target outcomes from the combinations of key variables;and, (4) apply the relationships established in stages 1, 2 and 3 to all assets lacking ILI results. Although seemingly straightforward, several challenges exist for achieving seamless implementation. this paper will review each process step and provide guidance on preparing and tackling common data intelligence challenges. the paper will also propose strategies for classifying assets, other than indexing, for application in those situations where machine learning does not indicate statistically significant variable correlations or yield strong predictions of target outcomes. Although still early in the understanding of migrating from relative index-based to probabilistic risk algorithms, the value provided in this paper is the sharing of lessons learned regarding "how" to gather

With the exponential growth and advancement of the internet and network technologies, the number of active internet users is expected to exceed 5 billion worldwide by 2025. As a result, designing high performance multi-threaded web server capable of concurrently handling thousands of incoming requests per second is in high demand. To achieve this goal, it is essential for the multi-threaded web server to utilize synchronization algorithm to coordinate the simultaneous use of resources by clients; avoid data inconsistency and still provide timely responses. the aim of this study is to compare and evaluate the performance of different traditional and modern synchronization algorithms adopted by multi-threaded web servers. An empirical experiment is conducted that simulates a file synchronization problem in distributed systems to evaluate how the performance of a multi-threaded web server is affected by those synchronization algorithms. Mutex locks, Spinlocks, Semaphore, and WebR2sync are evaluated, and the performance of each synchronization algorithm is measured using three performance metrics: Synchronization Time, Failure Rate, and Scalability. Results show that Semaphore has the fastest synchronization time, WebR2sync has the lowest failure rate, and Mutex excels at scalability. Such findings help with the decision of which synchronization algorithms to utilize for multi-threaded web servers based on the requirements.

In response to the current problems of low data transmission efficiency, high latency, and insufficient stability in computer communications, this paper studies a comprehensive optimized data transmission algorithm, which aims to improve network resource utilization efficiency and transmission performance and reduce the frequency of congestion by dynamically adjusting the transmission rate, adaptive congestion control and queue management optimization. Firstly, a dynamic rate adjustment mechanism based on real-time network status detection is designed to monitor the network bandwidth, latency, and packet loss rate in real time to dynamically adjust the data packet transmission rate. Secondly, an adaptive congestion control strategy is applied to reduce the impact of congestion on data transmission by monitoring the network congestion status in real time and adjusting it according to the changing trend. Finally, queue management and priority scheduling algorithms are used to reasonably arrange the transmission order of data packets, reduce queuing delays, and improve the transmission efficiency of high-priority data packets. In terms of latency and throughput, as latency increases, throughput gradually decreases. Taking the bandwidth of 100Mbps as an example, when the network latency is 20ms, the throughput is 92.15Mbps, and when the latency is 100ms, the throughput drops to 74.11Mbps. the optimized data transmission algorithm proposed in this paper significantly improves the efficiency and stability of network transmission by dynamically adapting to network conditions. In future research, the application of this algorithm can be further expanded, and its adaptability and robustness in more complex network environments and high-load applications can be enhanced to improve the reliability of data transmission.

the flexible and controllable mobility property makes Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) valuable for constructing temporary networks in a harsh environment. However, existing works always focus on enhancing the coverage under the assumption of given positions of users, which degrades the coverage performance in environments without prior locations. In this paper, we propose a divide-conquer UAV deployment strategy for integrated localization and communication networks. Specifically, we first model the UAV deployment problem with the objective of maximizing the regional localization accuracy to locate the users. then, based on the positions obtained, the lifetime maximization problem is modeled under the constraints of communication and localization requirements. An enhanced genetic algorithm (E-GA) is proposed to maximize the UAVs' residual lifetime while meeting the service requirements. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed deployment strategy can provide more stable communication coverage and obtain longer residual lifetime for the DAVs compared with the existing strategies.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive waveform design and optimization scheme for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. We modify the transmitted waveform to improve the degraded sensing performance caused by the randomness of the original communication waveform. Specifically, we utilize the spacial, time, and frequency resources unoccupied by the communication to transmit sensing paddings. Based on the modified transmitted waveform, we derive its sensing mutual information (MI), which is applied as a performance metric to optimize the waveform. By maximizing the sensing MI, we obtain the closed-form solution of the optimal waveform and its precoding matrix. Finally, we verify numerically that the proposed scheme brings significant improvement to sensing performance.

In this paper, we investigate the delay and Doppler shift estimation for the target by considering the resource mapping of the pilot in sixth generation (6G) integrated communication and sensing networks (ISAC). We first model the physical resource mapping of the sensing signals based on 3GPP release. then a rotational invariance based method is proposed to estimate the delay and the distance of the target. By interchanging the symbol and the subcarrier with each other, the same method is applied to estimate the Doppler shift and the velocity. Finally, a link level simulation is presented to show the performance of the proposed method.

High-value assets are prime targets for theft. Mitigating the losses associated with such theft requires swift detection, accurate identification, and real-time response. this research proposes an anti-theft system employing active RFID technology to automate the process of tracking, comprising RFID tags and readers. the study evaluates the system’s performance in a real-world environment by adopting Design of Experiment (DOE) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), focusing on key factors influencing throughput and communication range. the analysis revealed that baud rate and frame size were significant factors affecting throughput, with frame size having a stronger influence than baud rate. In evaluating communication range, power level and obstruction were the primary factors impacting read range performance, with power level exerting a greater influence than obstruction. the findings of this study provide guidelines for optimizing the deployment of RFID-based anti-theft systems.

this paper discusses the optimal control and building energy management of building heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems based on deep Q networks (DQNs). Traditional control strategies often have difficulty adapting to the dynamic changes of the environment and the personalized needs of users. this paper studies a DQN algorithm based on reinforcement learning to learn the optimal control strategy through interaction with the environment to achieve the best balance between energy saving and comfort. First, the HVAC system is modeled as a Markov decision process (MDP), including three elements: state, action, and reward. then, a DQN model is designed and implemented to improve the efficiency and stability of learning through experience replay and target network. Experience replay reduces the correlation between samples by randomly sampling past experience, while the target network reduces the oscillation during training by stabilizing the estimation of Q values. Finally, the application effect of DQN in HVAC system control is verified by verification. the specific data of the experimental results show that DQN performs well in energy efficiency. In terms of response speed, the response time of DQN to indoor and outdoor temperature fluctuations is 64.4 seconds, which is significantly faster than other traditional methods. In the adaptability score, DQN's highest adaptability score can reach 91.1 points. the DQN algorithm has significant advantages in HVAC system optimization control and building energy consumption management, and can achieve lower energy consumption and higher control accuracy.

the "Baybayin" writing system is a National Cultural Treasure in the Philippines of which a House bill 1022 was formulated in order to revive its use. However, as the new generations of people come, the languages have also evolved and developed making it more challenging to recognize and understand the Baybayin scripts. thus, this study proposed an alternative approach for word-level Baybayin transliteration on text images. the method entails the following: (1) application of adaptive thresholding technique for Baybayin character extraction, (2) classification of every extracted character to its syllabic equivalent through the generated 97.62% accurate CNN-based Baybayin Optical Character Recognition model, (3) concatenation mechanism for constructing the transliterated word, and (4) word validation using Filipino word dictionary. Using 200 Baybayin word testing images, the transliteration achieved a satisfactory accuracy rate of 92.00%.
