the abstract syntax of a graphical modeling language is typically defined with a metamodel while its concrete syntax (diagram) is informally defined with text and figures. Recently, the Object Management Group (OMG) released a beta specification, called Diagram Definition (DD), to formally define boththe interchange syntax and the graphical syntax of diagrams. In this paper, we validate DD by using it to define a subset of the UML class diagram. Specifically, we define the interchange syntax with a MOF-based metamodel and the graphical syntax with a QVT mapping to a graphics metamodel. We then run an experiment where we interchange and render an example diagram. We highlight various design decisions and discuss challenges of using DD in practice. Finally, we conclude that DD is a sound approach for formally defining diagrams that is expected to facilitate the interchange and the consistent rendering of diagrams between tools.

this paper presents a feedback control design for an isolated freeway ramp that utilizes a hybrid dynamical model for the traffic using Godunov's numerical technique. Feedback ramp metering designs in the past have relied on either discretized linearized method such as ALINEA, or nonlinear feedback designs based on ordinary differential equations for the traffic model. However, lumped parameter models fail to represent the rarefaction wave phenomenon of the distrbuted model. this paper uses Godunov based hybrid lumped model based on which feedback control design is proposed, and simulation results for the model are presented.

In recent years the simulation of manufacturing chains and of the crash behaviour of automotive sill:et metal structures has gained more ground on its way to be established in accompanying the overall product cycle. In the automotive press and welding plants high accuracy and quality or sheet metal structures is essential in order to achieve the intended passive crashworthiness of the overall vehicle body. So as to describe the manufacturing process chain more precisely and to predict the structural behaviour at early stages of product and production planning, an interlinking of forming, welding and crash models within a structural computation chain is necessary. Considering the structural properties of sheet metal parts after the forming process for simulating welding tasks and finally the crash behaviour requires a multifaceted modelling method. In this paper a practicable strategy of realising the simulation chain forming-welding-crash of sheet metal structure;is introduced by means of shell element models. the complete computed results of a forming process simulation, such as residual stresses, plastic strains and material thinning are transferred onto a prepared shell mesh based on the CAD geometry of the component, which satisfies the requirements of a welding computation. Further on, the structural properties after forming, the thermal distribution due to the welding process and the mechanical clamping conditions are combined in a thermo-mechanical computation of the welding effects to calculate the final shape, residual stresses and material thinning of the manufactured sheet metal structure. Finally, the attained structural results are converted into the required data-format by means of a developed conversion routine, which enables the setup of a crash model considering the entire preliminary manufacturing chain. When designing a system in which sensors are randomly deployed in a circular region to detect a signal emitter in a random location, the system designer may consider the least favorable distribution for the emitter location. the adoption of the least favorable distribution is conservative, solves the composite hypothesis issue, and makes the measurements conditionally i.i.d., as shown in our previous work. It may be argued, however, that the adoption of least favorable distributions generally leads to designs that are too conservative. In order to provide bounds for the loss in detection performance due to the least favorable distribution approach, we determine the most favorable distribution for the emitter location; then, using large sample theory, we determine how many additional sensors a design based on the least favorable distribution would require in comparison with a design based on the most favorable distribution. We also provide analytical bounds and examples.

this paper presents an investigation into the development of a multi-objective optimal chemotherapy control model to reduce the number of cancer cells after a number of fixed treatment cycles with minimum side effects. A phase specific drug scheduling method using a close-loop control method with multi-objective techniques is proposed in this paper. Genetic Algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimisation algorithm (PSO) are used to optimise the control solution for trading-off between the cell killing and toxic side effects. A close-loop control method, namely Integral-Proportional-Derivative (I-PD) is designed to control the drug to be infused into the patient's body and multi-objective GA (MOGA) and multi-objective PSO (MOPSO) are used to find suitable parameters of the controller. the proposed algorithm is implemented, tested and verified through a set of experiments. Performances of the proposed methods demonstrated that boththe MOGA and MOPSO approach can offer very efficient drug scheduling that trade-off between cell killing and toxic side effects and satisfy associated design goals. It is also noted that the MOGA based method offers better performance as compared to MOPSO and can reduce the number of proliferating and quiescent cells up to 72.2% and 60.4% respectively. Future research needs to evaluate the proposed scheduling with clinical data and experiments.

this paper presents an adaptive power management control strategy that is based on selection algorithm for controlling gas engines and electric motor torque. the state of the art hybrid vehicle technology determines the instantaneous power split in order to increase energy efficiency. the selection algorithm, contained by the power controller unit, uses inputs of analog sensors along with commands from driver's desired speed and makes a selection of outputs from preassigned control states. these states are stored in a knowledge base for revealing engine and motor mixed control strategies. the objectives of the control strategies are to minimize fuel consumption, reduce engine-out emissions, maintain higher level safety, and keep passenger and driver's comfort as the current system.

A distributed data selection technique for fusion center (FC)-based estimation with a wireless sensor network (WSN) is presented. the data selection is envisioned for a large WSN in which only a subset of measurements need be transmitted to the FC thereby saving on transmission power. Furthermore, quantization of the selected measurements leading to bandwidth savings is also addressed. A novel data selection method using measurement censoring is followed by maximum a posteriori estimation that optimally fuses information from the censored-data model. Censoring and estimation algorithms that are amenable to implementation with WSNs are developed. Bayesian Cramer-Rao bound analysis and numerical simulations show that the proposed censoring-based estimator and quantized-censored estimator have competitive (or even superior) mean-square error performance when compared to data selection alternatives under a range of sensing conditions.

the key points of the frequent closed itemsets mining are based on two main steps: search space browsing and closed itemsets detecting. this paper presents NPG_mining, a novel prefix graph based algorithm for mining closed frequent itemsets. the new approach has constructed an efficient prefix graph structure and use variable length bit vectors to present the relationship between the database and its items. Based on die closure equivalence concept, the algorithm has created a efficient closed core item generating technology, which can identify the possibility of a prefix itemset turning into a closed frequent itemset without keeping the existing closed frequent itemsets in the main memory. Our performance study shows that the pruning efficience and scalability using NPG_mingning is better than PGMiner.
