graphics processing units (GPUs) have evolved from fixed graphics pipeline processors into more flexible and powerful data-parallel processors. their ever-increasing computing power makes them an attractive platform for high performance computing at a low cost. Up to the present, most efforts that exploit GPUs are graphical and scientific applications. Nevertheless, little attention has been paid to harnessing these highly parallel devices to support collaborative work and design. In this paper, we propose a GPU-based framework based on stream computing technology, which aims at providing the computation service more efficiently among the collaborators in the CSCW system. the framework consists of two parts: A CPU-based data service mainly presiding over management and a GPU-based compute service primarily focus on computation.

It is important that a collaborative graphics editing system (CGES) allows a latecomer to join the collaborative editing session as soon as possible. In ubiquitous environment, a powerful workstation may most probably join and take the place of former server in order to take the advantage of the centralized architecture and make the collaborative editing more efficiently. We have developed a latecomer accommodation service and related late-join approach for such kind of latecomer in CGES withthe centralized architecture. the presented on-demand input replica consistency approach and related object scheme ensure that only those input operations really needed for the latecomer are transmitted. the region that late joiner may be interested in are predicted. the needed partial input replica is migrated only when it is needed. the advantages of the proposed late-join approach are robustness, a low network load and a low initialization delay. the late-join approach is realized in our prototype system of collaborative graphics editing system that can work well in ubiquitous environments.

We have developed a simulator to help withthe design and evaluation of assistive interfaces. the simulator can predict possible interaction patterns when undertaking a task using a variety of input devices, and estimate the time to complete the task in the presence of different disabilities. In this paper, we have presented a study to evaluate the simulator by considering a representative application being used by able-bodied, visually impaired and mobility impaired people. the simulator predicted task completion times for all three groups with statistically significant accuracy. the simulator also predicted the effects of different interface designs on task completion time accurately.
