Because of the characteristics of large dimensions, complex structure and high machining accuracy in aircraft structural parts, iterations frequently happen in the parts design process, which increase the R&D time and costs substantially. In response to the situation, a cooperative design framework based on multi-agent for aircraft is proposed in this paper. Agent of detailed design, feature recognition, manufacturability analysis and etc. are included in the framework. According to the constraints upstream, new feature or structure will be constructed to confirm a new design scheme during the design process. through the local feature recognition, machining features are recognized from the design feature model simultaneously, and then employed to analyze manufacturability and evaluate costs, in order to obtain an optimal design scheme. An original system has been developed and partially tested in an aviation enterprise. the result shows that the methodology is practicable.
Shared understanding about boththe design content and the design process has significant meaning for collaborative design, which influences the quality of final products. Existing approaches have difficulties in supp...

the integration of virtual reality and computer-aideddesign technologies is a revolution in the history of design. Virtual environments provide more information and feedback to designers than traditional desktop systems. Such information and feedback include immersive and stereoscopic visual information, haptic or tactile feedback, and auditory feedback. the multimodal information is in general rather intuitive and inspiring to designers, resulting in globally enhanced insights, creativity and productivity. Moreover, multimodal virtual reality technology excels at the visualization of complex scene and information, which is particularly difficult in desktop systems. In this talk, we present our recent research achievements on: (1) online synthesis of multi-channel visual signals, and the construction of multimodal virtual environments; (2) fusion of graphic, image and video signals in augmented reality environments; (3) synthesis of visual and haptic signals in virtual assembly applications; (4) virtual design and simulation in multimodal virtual environments, including surface deformation based on hand gesture interface, virtual assembly with haptic interactions, virtual maintenance in augmented reality environments; (5) demonstrations and examples.

One difference between real-time CSCW systems and traditional distributed systems is that the former one needs to provide a natural, free and fast interface for multi-user interaction. However, typical multi-user interaction methods in 3D CAD systems apply strict consistency maintenance, such as lock mechanism and floor control which result in a stagnant and unnatural interface. this article proposes a semantic-based operational transformation (OT), which is similar to the traditional OT form, to support less constraint multi-user interaction and to achieve consistency in collaborative CAD editing (co-CAD) systems. Major technical contributions of this article include: a 3D semantic priority to select operations from waiting list, an OT strategy to decide OT direction, OT rules and a kernel OT function for co-CAD systems.

the integrated concurrent engineering approach to the design complex-shaped scroll compressor is presented. A virtual computer integrated design system for the approach is constructed with various commercial software packages. the concurrent engineering combined with information technology is used for the scroll compressor computer-aideddesign. the advantages and disadvantages of the software used were analyzed. Pro/ENGINEER software is used for the main role in the approach. the finite element analysis technique which carried out in ANSYS is adopted to analyze and describe deflection and stress of actual operation of scroll compressor, which analyze the condition of high stress and strain range. the result is that the stress generally focus on the field where the inside scroll ring of orbiting disc overlaps the shafting bearing hole, withthe maximum stress of 97mpa and within promised range.

As automotive panels are assembled in a vehicle, they are subjected to shape distorting forces, e.g., the pressure of door seals. A standard technique for preventing shape distortions is to alter the panels' computeraideddesign (CAD) in such a way that the panels assume the desired design shape under the action of the distorting forces. Volume morphing, a technique pioneered by Beacutezier (1978, "General Distortion of an Ensemble of Biparametric Patches," Comput.-aided Des., 10(2), pp. 116-120) and by Sederberg and Parry (1986, "Free-Form Deformation of Solid Geometric Models," internationalconference on computergraphics and Interactive Techniques, Proceedings of the 13th Annual conference on computergraphics, pp. 151-160), has been extended and implemented in a computer software package called FESHAPE, created at the General Motors Research and Development Center. FESHAPE automatically modifies CAD models according to a finite set of displacement vectors obtained, e.g., from finite-element analysis or scanning tryout parts. this article discusses how FESHAPE has been successfully applied to compensate door panel distortion caused by door seals.
