Mainstream forces are driving Software Product Line (SPL) approaches to take a more holistic perspective that is deeply integrated into the systems and software engineering lifecycle. these forces illustrate that SPL challenges will not be solved at any one stage in the product engineering lifecycle, nor will they be solved in independent and disparate silos in each of the different stages of the lifecycle. We explore our response to these forces a SPL Lifecycle Framework. the motivation for this technology framework is to ease the integration of tools, assets and processes across the full systems and software development lifecycle. the goal is to provide product line engineers with a common set of SPL concepts and constructs for all of their tools and assets, at every stage of the lifecycle, and to assure that product line development traceability and processes flow cleanly from one stage of the lifecycle to another.

Distributed collaborative design among heterogeneous CAD systems enables manufacturing organizations to maintain competitiveness in the fiercely competitive global industry. It is no doubt that the requirement of collaboratively heterogeneous CAD system is become more and more exigent. In this paper, a distributed collaborative design framework is presented and a prototype system of collaboratively heterogeneous CAD system is achieved by the Minimum Mapping Set (MMS). In this approach, the modeling operation corresponding to the modeling operations of each CAD systems are exchanged by neutral modeling commands(NMCs) in the form of XML to real-time transfer of parameters information including design intent between heterogeneous CAD systems. the prototype proves that our approach works well for integrating variously popular commercial CAD systems into a real-time collaborative design platform.

Banks worldwide are starting to authenticate online card transactions using the '3-D Secure' protocol, which is branded as Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode. this has been partly driven by the sharp increase in online fraud that followed the deployment of EMV smart cards for cardholder-present payments in Europe and elsewhere. 3-D Secure has so far escaped academic scrutiny;yet it might be a textbook example of how not to design an authentication protocol. It ignores good design principles and has significant vulnerabilities, some of which are already being exploited. Also, it provides a fascinating lesson in security economics. While other single sign-on schemes such as OpenID, InfoCard and Liberty came up with decent technology they got the economics wrong, and their schemes have not been adopted. 3-D Secure has lousy technology, but got the economics right (at least for banks and merchants);it now boasts hundreds of millions of accounts. We suggest a path towards more robust authentication that is technologically sound and where the economics would work for banks, merchants and customers - given a gentle regulatory nudge.

Operational transformation (OT) is a collaborative computing technology for supporting advanced collaborative applications. OT was originally invented for consistency maintenance and concurrency control in collaborative editing of plain text documents in 80s. Two decades of research has extended OT functionalities and applications to include group undo, conflict resolution, operation notification and compression, group-awareness, HTML/XML document editing, collaborative office productivity tools, and collaborative computer-aided digital media design tools. Because of its lock-free, unconstrained interaction control, and consistency-preserving properties, OT is particularly suitable for supporting real-time collaboration over the Internet. OT has recently been adopted as the core collaboration technique in Google Wave, which is taking OT to a new range of web-based applications and services, including e-mail, instant messaging, blogging, wiki, and social networking. the speaker has been working on OT research and application since 1994. In this talk, the speaker will share his experiences and lessons in researching OT issues, designing OT algorithms, and building OT-based collaborative applications, from 1-dimensional text editors (e.g. CoVim), 2-dimensional word processors (e.g. CoWord), to 3-dimensional computer-aided digital media design tools (e.g. CoMaya).

Software reuse is crucial for enterprises interested in software quality and productivity gains. In this context, Software Product Line (SPL) and Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) are two reuse strategies that share common goals and can be used together to increase reuse and produce service-oriented systems faster, cheaper and customizable to specific customers. In this sense, this work investigates the problem of designing software product lines using service-oriented architectures, and presents a systematic approach to design software product lines based on services. the proposed approach provides guidance to identify, design and document architectural components, services, service compositions and their associated flows. In addition, an initial experimental study performed withthe intention of validating and refining the approach is also depicted demonstrating that the proposed solution can be viable.

Numerical control machine tools are widely used in the manufacturing nowadays. the engineers often have difficulties discussing with another engineer about the problem in the CAM work, so a convenient tool for this is needed. In this paper, a framework of collaborative CAM simulation environment is presented for the goal of virtual enterprise. the main modular and key technology of them are illustrated, which include virtual part discussion environment, cutting parameter database management modular, G-code collaborative simulation modular and VRML based realistic cutting simulation modular. the prototype of system is implemented for small amount of users. In the end, the application of VRML based CAM simulation environment is discussed.
