Real-time Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) detection and monitoring are important for the society in terms of improvement in citizens' health conditions and of reduction in mortality and healthcare costs. this paper proposes an easy, cheap, and portable approach for monitoring patients with OSA. It is based on singlechannel ECG data, and on the automatic offline extraction, from a database containing ECG information about the monitored patient, of explicit knowledge under the form of a set of IF...thEN rules containing typical parameters derived from Heart Rate Variability (HRV) analysis. this set of rules can be exploited in our realtime mobile monitoring system: ECG data is gathered by a wearable sensor and sent to a mobile device, where it is processed in real time, HRV-related parameters are computed from it, and, if their values activate some of the rules describing occurrence of OSA, an alarm is automatically produced. the approach has been tested on a well-known literature database of OSA patients. Rules are obtained which are specific for each patient. Numerical results have shown the effectiveness of the approach, and the achieved sets of rules evidence its user-friendliness. Furthermore, the method has been compared against other well-known classifiers. © 2013 IEEE.

this paper tries to clarify various pauses, which are called "Ma" in Japanese, in performances in order to employ them in transmitting traditional skills from the current generation to the next one. Various pauses are tried to be identified from speeches, music pieces, and actions. A tea ceremony, the knitting of wire netting and the Mie of Kabuki performance are treated as actions. Pauses are classified to several groups from the viewpoints of the presence of sound, that of movement, that of a pose, the time duration, and the aim of a pause. It is also pointed out that there is a negative pause. From the point of view of time duration, there are three types of pause: short, normal, and long pauses. It is shown that short pauses should precisely be analyzed, and be effectively used in transmitting traditional skills because they often appear in the movements of traditional works.

Apache Kafka is an open source publish-subscribe message broker and distributed logging tool that has a widespread adoption in the modern world by companies like Uber, Airbnb, Linkedin and many more. Delivering extreme high volume event data to diverse consumers via a publish-subscribe messaging system with several out of the box optimizations on the 4 major pillars of latency, throughput, durability and availability makes this tool so much popular in the IT landscape. Kafka has the option to customize most of its configuration related parameters to optimize it the most for our use case. Some of the use cases have millions of writes per second, hence it needs to handle huge billions of volumes of data which cannot be done easily by a traditional database or key-value store pair. Some use cases like a chat application demands very low latency where storing the data can be delayed, but the recipient needs to get the sender's message delivered as soon as possible. Some use cases like a banking application requires high durability over latency and throughput, where the data records must be stored in spite of any system failures. Latencies over 500ms can be tolerated but not data loss in any possible case. And finally some use cases like emergency systems, autonomous vehicles, these are some applications that have to be available for communication all the time and it really doesn't demand low latency or high throughput or high *** the crux of this is, we should know to configure the application depending on our use case. In this paper we are comprehensively going to talk about how we can optimize Apache Kafka correctly depending on these 4 major pillars. After immense testing and brainstorming we have come up with a set of configuration parameters for each of these pillars which would provide a headstart to optimize the kafka deployment. Despite significant advancements in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), energy conservation remains one of the most important research challenges. Proper organization of nodes (clustering) is one of the major techniques to expand the lifespan of the whole network through aggregating data at the cluster head. the cluster head is the backbone of the entire cluster. that means if a cluster head fails to accomplish its function, the received and collected data by cluster head can be lost. Moreover, the energy consumption following direct communications from sources to base stations will be increased. In this paper, we propose a type-2 fuzzy based self-configurable cluster head selection (SCCH) approach to not only consider the selection criterion of the cluster head but also present the cluster backup approach. thus, in case of cluster failure, the system still works in an efficient way. the novelty of this protocol is the ability of handling communication uncertainty, which is an inherent operational aspect of sensor networks. the experiment results indicate SCCH performs better than other recently developed methods. © 2013 IEEE.

With the rapid development of the mobile internet, many emerging compute-intensive and data-intensive tasks are extremely sensitive to latency and cannot be implemented on mobile devices (MDs). To solve this problem, mobile edge computing (MEC) appears to be a promising solution. In this paper, we propose a distributed task splitting and offloading algorithm (DSOA) for the scenario of multi-device and multi-MEC servers in ultra-dense networks (UDN). In the proposed scheme, the MDs can perform their tasks locally or offload suitable percentage of tasks to the MEC server. the optimization goal is to minimize the overall task computation time. Since the MDs are selfish, we propose a game theory approach to achieve optimal global computation time. Finally, the numerical simulation results verify that the algorithm can effectively reduce global computation time. © 2020, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Business management using information-communication (info-communication) infrastructures such as broadband networks and data centers will become more and more important in the near future. Moreover, cloud computing services induce a lot of corporate alliances and this complicates customer-service management. In particular, billing management is very critical for both providers and customers. the creation of a billing management method that can quickly adjust to any business environment change is expected. therefore, this paper first focuses on a customer-service management modelling method for info-communication services in terms of three view models, the service, cash-flow, and settlement. then, the functions required to accomplish this are obtained for the billing management for future cloud computing services by combining these three view models. this methodology can contribute to the quick and exact provision of new info-communication services.

the semantic generalization and the semantic specialization have been proposed. the semantic generalization makes it possible for a shape graph, which corresponds to a relation schema in the relational data model, to have elements by considering the semantics of the elements of the original shape graphs even if there is no common element in the original ones. the element is the lowest common ancestor of the elements of original shape graphs in a hierarchy of concepts rather than their common element. the semantic specialization enables a shape graph to have elements which are different from those of the original shape graphs, but are semantically related to them. this paper extends the semantic generalization in order that the generalized shape graph can be created according to the user's specification. this enables users to create the generalized shape graphs that users want as in the sematic specialization. this extension also brings us unification of the definitions of the semantic generalization and the semantic specialization.

Many management actions for networking infrastructures require to simultaneously consider the state of several network elements. this is particularly critical in the case of reconfigurable deployments, such as Virtual or Software-Defined Networks, to scale the affected equipment up and prevent performance bottlenecks. In this light, we present dPRISMA (distributed Passive Retrieval of Information, and Statistical Multipoint Analysis), a passive monitoring system intended to fit statistical models for network measurements and raise alarms in the case of extreme behaviors. As distinguishing features, dPRISMA relies on cost-effective multi-point network measurements, and is able to select a suitable parametric model optimizing the trade-off between fitting and complexity. therefore, it can (i) correlate records collected from several vantage points and detect where performance issues are most likely to appear;(ii) adjust alarms in terms of the probability of events;and (iii) adapt its behavior to dynamic network conditions while presenting a fair identification of anomalous situations. We evaluate dPRISMA with experiments both in virtual environments and with real-world data to provide evidences of its applicability. © 2018 IFIP.

Developing scheduling mechanisms that can simultaneously achieve throughput optimality and good delay performance often require solving the Maximum Independent Weighted Set (MWIS) problem. However, under most realistic network settings, the MWIS problem can be shown to be NPhard. In non-fading environments, low-complexity scheduling algorithms have been provided that converge either to the MWIS solution in time or to a solution that achieves at least a provable fraction of the achievable throughput. However, in more practical systems the channel conditions can vary at faster time-scales than convergence occurs in these lower-complexity algorithms. Hence, these algorithms cannot take advantage of the opportunistic gain, and may no longer guarantee good performance. In this paper, we propose a low-complexity scheduling scheme that performs provably well under fading channels and is amenable to implement in a distributed manner. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first scheduling scheme under fading environments that requires only local information, has a low complexity that grows logarithmically with the network size, and achieves provable performance guarantees (which is arbitrarily close to that of the well-known centralized Greedy Maximal Scheduler). through simulations we verify that both the throughput and the delay under our proposed distributed scheduling scheme are close to that of the optimal solution to MWIS. Further, we implement a preliminary version of our algorithm in a testbed by modifying the existing IEEE 802.11 DCF. the preliminary experiment results show that our implementation successfully accounts for wireless fading, and attains the opportunistic gains in practice, and hence substantially outperforms IEEE 802.11 DCF.
