the increase in the demand for computing resources with scalable infrastructure and easily managed has stimulated the emergence of IaaS - Infrastructure-as-a-Service - providers in public clouds, as well as the creation of open source IaaS solutions for institutions that prefer to implant their own private cloud. Aiming at expanding the cost-benefit, it is often necessary to integrate public and private cloud services. However, the wide variety of interfaces for communication with the services provided by each solution may impair the management of these clouds by the current environment management tool. In this context, is proposed a management tool for private and hybrid clouds, referred to as GBD IaaS Manager, which offers as original contribution, support for migration of virtual elements to these environments, allowing for a better utilization of computing resources and the load balancing among private and hybrid clouds.

BACKGROUND: there is a large body of literature on research about fault management in grid computing. Despite being a well-established research area, there are no systematic studies focusing on characterizing the sorts of research that have been conducted, identifying wellexplored topics as well as opportunities for further research. OBJECTIVE: this study aims at surveying the existing research on fault management in grid computing in order to identify useful approaches and opportunities for future research. MEthOD: We conducted a systematic mapping study to collect, classify and analyze the research literature on fault management in grid computing indexed by the main search engines in the field. RESULTS: Our study selected and classified 257 scientific papers and was able to answer five research questions regarding the distribution of the scientific production over the time and space. CONCLUSIONS: the majority of the selected studies focus on fault tolerance, with very few efforts towards fault prevention, prediction and removal.

the high-density blade server provides an attractive solution for the rapid increasing demand on computing. the degree of parallelism inside a blade enclosure nowadays has reach up to hundreds of cores. In such parallelism, it is necessary to accelerate communications inside a blade enclosure. However, commercial products seldom set foot in the optimization based on hardware. A hyper-node controller is proposed to provide a low overhead and high performance interconnection based on PCIe, which supports global address space, user-level communication, and efficient communication primitives. Furthermore, the efficient sharing of I/O resource is another goal of this design. the prototype of the hyper-node controller is implemented in FPGA. the testing results show the lowest latency is only 1.242us and the highest bandwidth is 3.19GB/s, which is almost 99.7% of the theoretic peak bandwidth.

the dynamics of social events happening in large metropolitan areas are extremely complex. Location-based user generated data could be an exceptionally rich source of information about events, however the vastness and the heterogeneity of such information makes it almost impossible for city managers to have a comprehensive view. Some events are planned and advertised only among restricted communities, for many it is problematic to estimate the number of attendees, and in general it is very difficult to have information about citizen mobility in areas nearby or where events happen. In this paper, we describe EXSED, an interactive intelligent tool to support the visual exploration of social events dynamics along the spatial, temporal and organizational dimensions. Major functionalities include: (i) studying events that are either officially/unofficially planned and with global/local scope;(ii) extract discussion topics for an event and investigate their temporal and spatial profile;(iii) estimate event attendees and correlate their mobility patterns with the event evolution. We present preliminary results of a field study with officials from Dublin City Council (Ireland), who evaluated our tool on real world user-generated tweeter data and events in the city.

the Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) is responsible for routing calls to a set of call servicing points (workstations). In a multi-site call centre solution eMOSys, the ACDs logic is distributed between nodes. In this paper, we describe a distributed ACD, modelling its behaviour and communication with the other subsystems. A number of properties, such as deadlock freeness, safety and liveness are then verified using the model checker PAT (Process Analysis Toolkit). © 2013 ACM.

Background: the large computational infrastructures required to provide the on-demand services that most users are now used to are more prone to failures than any single computational device. thus, fault management is a essential activity in the realization of the cloud computing model. Aims: this work aims at identifying well-explored topics on fault management in cloud computing as well as pinpointing gaps in the scientific literature that may represent opportunities for further research and development in this area. Method: We conducted a systematic mapping study to collect, filter and classify scientific works in this area. the 4535 scientific papers found on major search engines were filtered and the remaining 166 papers were classified according to a taxonomy described in this work. Results: We found that IaaS is most explored in the selected studies. the main dependability functions explored were Tolerance and Removal, and the attributes were Reliability and Availability. Most papers had been classified by research type as Solution Proposal. Conclusion: this work summarizes and classifies the research effort conducted on fault management in cloud computing, providing a good starting point for further research in this area.

the paper considers the main issues and recommendations for using the risk assessment techniques based on the analysis of static, dynamic and historical security information. the system of security metrics and techniques for their calculation are suggested. Proposed techniques are based on attack graphs and service dependencies. they allow evaluating security of network topologies, malefactors and attack characteristics, and integral security properties and characteristics calculated on the basis of the cost-benefit and zero-day vulnerability analysis. the approach is intended to be implemented in the framework of the FP7 EU MASSIF project. © 2013 IEEE.

Modern GPGPUs implement on-chip shared cache to better exploit the data reuse of various general purpose applications. Given the massive amount of concurrent threads in a GPGPU, striking the balance between Data Locality and Load Balance has become a critical design concern. To achieve the best performance, the trade-off between these two factors needs to be performed concurrently. this paper proposes a dynamic thread scheduler which co-optimizes both the data locality and load balance on a GPGPU. the proposed approach is evaluated using three applications with various input datasets. the results show that the proposed approach reduces the overall execution cycles by up to 16% when compared with other approaches concerning only one objective.

We in this paper explore a new data dissemination framework in Mobile P2P networks. Previous works in the literature usually elaborated upon the reduction of dissemination frequency in the network. However, many important and practical issues remain unresolved. First, the success of the system design usually relies on the support of other hardware components such as GPS, causing the extra power consumption. In addition, the property of the physical media used to make the ad-hoc network is not well discussed in the system. the system which assumes all users can access WiFi or 3G everywhere will limit the grow of the system popularity. Most importantly, the user preference is not considered, and each peer will receive and help to broadcast all messages whether the user is interested in. In this paper, we propose the MobiPAD framework, which the current stage concentrates on applications of data dissemination in student communities. the MobiPAD framework is built based on Bluetooth since Bluetooth is low power consumption and high penetration rate, and is suitable for students without the expensive 3G or WiFi accessibility. We also consider preference-aware disseminations to support various user preferences in the Mobile P2P network. the fairness issue is considered in the model, meaning that users who receive more interesting messages should contribute more message retransmission than users who wonder to receive few messages. the basic MobiPAD platform for student communities is also discussed in the paper, to show its possibility for further use.
