Obstacle detection and avoidance have historically been manual processes. With the advent of neural networks, many processing tasks have been made autonomous with more efficient by obtaining a wide variety of data from their surroundings to perform the next move. Training these networks is computationally intensive, which became the driving force behind transfer learning. field programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) which revolutionized reconfigurable logic is the next choice considered the opportunity to interleave the processing tasks between a general-purpose processor and dedicated logic blocks. Extending this concept to collision detection and using hardware acceleration to speed up the decision process can be highly beneficial, especially in such time critical applications. In this article, the idea above has been reviewed, and a method to implement the system has been proposed.

Superconducting (SC) dipoles with a strong curvature (radius smaller than 2 meters, for an aperture of about 100 mm and a length of 1-3 meters) are required for applications where compactness is key, such as the synchrotron and gantry for Carbon-ion therapy developed within the European program HITRIplus. Such magnets challenge several assumptions in the field description and put to the test the range of validity of beam optics codes. In particular, the equivalence that holds for the straight magnets between the transverse multipoles description obtained from the Fourier analysis (used for magnet design and measurements) and the Taylor expansion of the vertical field component along the horizontal axis (used in beam optics) is not valid any longer. Proper fringe field modelling also becomes important due to the curved geometry and the aperture being large compared to the magnetic length. We explore the feasibility and the limits of modelling such magnets with optics elements (such as sector bends and multipoles), which allows parametric optics studies for optimization, field quality definition and fast long-term multi-pass tracking.

Over past years, field bus's introduction, improved control systems, and network connection has resulted in significant advances in data acquisition in industrial automation. In paper industries, the field bus is utilized as a universal element for network communication. the field buses can transfer both analogue and digital signals via a single wire. Using the superimposing technique, create an interface bus. Unfortunately, this method of signal transmission necessitates the use of buses, which take up a lot of space in factories. Wireless Local Area Network technology is being utilized instead of field buses for interfacing. Profibus and Ethernet are combined for communication in WLAN technology, resulting in profinet. this method of communication reduces the requirement for bus wires, allowing for more flexibility and excellent performance as an added feature. Configuration of programmable logic Controller (PLC) using WLAN technology through an engineering station, as well as wireless simulation of digital input and output with scalene module reduce the breakdown maintenance in paper industries over prolonged periods of time. It is a very feasible method to operate the field devices from anywhere within the engineering station. © 2022 IEEE.

the proliferation of AI technology gives rise to a variety of security threats, significantly compromising the confidentiality and integrity of AI applications. Existing software-based solutions mainly target one specific attack, and require the implementation into the models, rendering them less practical. We design UniGuard, a novel unified and non-intrusive detection methodology to safeguard FPGA-based AI accelerators. the core idea of UniGuard is to harness power side-channel information generated during model inference to spot any anomaly. We employ a Time-to-Digital Converter to capture power fluctuations and train a supervised machine learning model to identify various types of threats. Evaluations demonstrate that UniGuard can achieve 94.0% attack detection accuracy, with high generalization over unknown or adaptive attacks and robustness against varied configurations (e.g., sensor frequency and location).

the High-Energy Particle Detector (HEPD-02) is a particle spectrometer developed by the Italian collaboration Limadou within the CSES-02 mission. It has been designed for the detection of electrons (3-100 MeV), protons (30-200 MeV), and light nuclei, in the near Earth orbit. HEPD-02 is the first detector to use a pixel silicon tracker in space. the Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPSs) constituting the HEPD-02 silicon tracker are characterized by excellent spatial resolution, lower production costs, higher robustness, and lower noise when compared to traditional microstrip sensors. Nevertheless, stringent requirements on power consumption for space applications lead to a challenging optimization of power demanding processes. Within this paradigm, a tailored Tracker Data AcQuisition (TDAQ) system has been designed. the TDAQ firmware was developed on a field programmable Gate Array (FPGA) manufactured by Xilinx: a low-power version of the Artix family with a suitable amount of resources. the parallelization implemented within the TDAQ algorithm was a crucial point in optimizing the limited read-out speed, imposed by power constraints. Nonetheless, the strengths of the TDAQ firmware consists in its modularity and redundancy. Outdoor insulators are one of the most essential parts of the electrical power system. they provide mechanical support as well as electrical isolation to the transmission line elevated to high voltages. Composite insulators, often called non-ceramic insulators, have various advantages over their ceramic counterpart and have been widely employed in the last two decades. Polymeric housing, such as silicone rubber (SR), is used in composite insulators to protect the fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) core rods from environmental weathering. Despite all the advantages, polymeric material in composite insulators is prone to degradation due to aging when used in outdoor conditions. In this paper, real service life samples are taken for study used in electric traction with 25 kV applied voltage. Material-based investigations of high-temperature vulcanized (HTV) SR housing are presented. Due to thermal and ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the chemical composition of SR changes over time when exposed to external environmental stresses, as observed and reported. With aging, the SR loses its fundamental properties and turns more crystalline and, hence, more prone to forming cracks on its surface due to electrical discharges. Such prolonged gradual degradation of SR housing is observed with aging results in complete failure which is correlated with physico-chemical measurement. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper deals with issues connected with the application of smart solutions in the field of public lighting. First, a short analysis of the implementation of smart solutions is made and then the problems with power factor and total harmonic distortion are discussed. Next, the research in a real public lighting branch with smart capabilities is described, along with measurements of the most important values. Finally, the recommendations for designing public lighting systems with smart devices are proposed. © 2022 IEEE.

the trench no-core fiber (TNCF) sensor is known for its effectiveness in refractive index (RI) sensing due to its coreless design. Traditionally, TNCF sensors have been limited to measuring RI values below the fiber material's RI. this study presents a simulation of a TNCF with a trench depth of 30 μm and width of 50 μm, designed for high refractive index (HRI) sensing using COMSOL Multiphysics software. the focus is on leaky mode behavior in HRI analyte mediums, compared to guided mode in low refractive index (LRI) mediums. Performance was evaluated by simulating HRI analyte mediums with RI values from 1.4600 RIU to 1.5500 RIU, observing electric field attenuation due to leaky mode behavior. Results show that the TNCF sensor provides superior sensitivity for detecting HRI mediums, attributed to increased leakage loss of leaky modes relative to trenchless NCF, due to lower mode confinement in TNCF. the sensor achieved a sensitivity of 4149.4 V/mRIU and demonstrated strong linearity with an R2 value of 0.8654. Despite these advantages, the TNCF sensor has notable limitations. Sensitivity decreases at extreme refractive index values, and issues with mode confinement led to light leakage, affecting performance consistency. Additionally, the trench design introduces fabrication complexity and increased costs. these limitations suggest that while the TNCF sensor shows significant promise for HRI sensing applications, further optimization and improvements are needed to address these challenges and expand its practical use, including monitoring oil degradation and other HRI environments. © 2024 IEEE.
