the present book includes a set of selected extended papers from the 12th international conference on informatics in control, automation and robotics (icinco 2015), held in Colmar, France, from 21 to 23 July 2015. the conference brought together researchers, engineers and practitioners interested in the application of informatics to control, automation and robotics. Four simultaneous tracks will be held, covering Intelligent control Systems, Optimization, robotics, automation, Signal Processing, Sensors, Systems Modelling and control, and Industrial Engineering, Production and Management. informatics applications are pervasive in many areas of control, automation and robotics. icinco 2015 received 214 submissions, from 42 countries, in all continents. After a double blind paper review performed by the Program Committee, 14% were accepted as full papers and thus selected for oral presentation. Additional papers were accepted as short papers and posters. A further selection was made after the conference, based also on the assessment of presentation quality and audience interest, so that this book includes the extended and revised versions of the very best papers of icinco 2015. Commitment to high quality standards is a major concern of icinco that will be maintained in the next editions, considering not only the stringent paper acceptance ratios but also the quality of the program committee, keynote lectures, participation level and logistics.

Process automation is a widespread concept and a popular approach to considering production facilities from the perspective of Industry 4.0. Using robots in a manufacturing line is one of the first options to increase efficiency, resilience, and precision, even in the conceptual envisioning stage of factory development. However, complete automation deprives the process of adaptability and robustness, a problem that can be overcome by using automation components that can perform behaviors close to human perception. the solution proposed in the present research is to adopt a deep learning system for a collaborative robot arm equipped with an adaptive gripper to obtain an intelligent system capable of handling various types of objects with different shapes in an unpredictable object-sorting scenario. An approach based on ARUCO markers is proposed to envelop the workspace where objects will be located, contributing to ease of use and generality. Many people with severe disabilities find it difficult or even impossible to use traditional powered wheelchairs independently by manually controlling these electrical devices. Intelligent wheelchairs are a very good solution to assist severely handicapped people who are unable to operate classical electrical wheelchair by themselves in their daily activities. this paper describes a development platform for intelligent wheelchairs called IntellWheels. the intelligent system developed may be added to commercial powered wheelchairs with minimal modifications in a very straightforward manner. the paper describes the concept and design of the platform, including the hardware and software, multimodal input interface and the intelligent wheelchair prototype developed to validate the approach. Preliminary results concerning automatic movement of the IntellWheels prototype are also described showing the autonomous movement capabilities of the prototype. © 2009 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.

this paper deals a new approach of the trajectory-tracking second-order sliding-mode control (TT-SOSMC), applied to control a nonholonomic wheelchair for elderly and disabled based on kinematic model. Cirrus Power Wheelchair (CPW) was modelled like a wheeled mobile robot (WMR) with two driving and two free wheels (2DW/2FW). A hardware description, concerning driving wheels control, data acquisition and communication with PC and touch screen, is presented. Simulations and real time results have presented taking into account parameter uncertainties and external disturbances. CPW closed loop control, via simulation and real-time have proved improved performance in terms of decreasing reaching and settling times with increasing robustness. © 2018 IEEE.

Since the advent of thermal imaging, devices with a high optical resolution that use detector arrays to capture the emitted radiance in the thermal infrared range of an entire scene simultaneously have developed as a standard in monitoring energy related aspects. they have had a huge impact on the building industry and in manufacturing, where they are commonly used to monitor proecces that require stable temperature conditions. As beneficial as contactless measurements are, the subsequent localization of points of interest in the environment is often difficult. To overcome this problem we propose a portable system that combines thermal imaging with Augmented Reality (AR). the idea of the approach is to project the gathered temperature information back into the scene to facilitate visual inspection.
