Differential transmission lines (DTL) can be synthesized as a chain of identical 4-Port unit cells (UC). these DTL are interesting to use for either matching the circuits or for realizing small resonators in filters or oscillators. One very interesting aspect is the tunability of such a transmission line. Tunability means the ability to tune the electrical length and the characteristic impedance by applying appropriate voltage. In this paper, we introduce a new method to realize the tunability of these transmission lines thru magnetic coupling. this tunable Periodical DTL (PDTL) provides highly interesting applications for silicon MMICs.

In this paper, a novel Gm-C filter for equalizers used in communication channels transmitting digital data for applications in CMOS integratedcircuits is presented. Using the novel structure the poles of internal Gm-blocks are avoided and better stability and ability to operate in high frequencies are achieved. To tune the filter, instead of changing transconductance (Gm), we have used variation of capacitance (C). Cat5 data cable is used for testing and simulating the circuit. the design has been processed in a 0.35 mu m four-metal single-poly CMOS process. Power consumption of the chip is 18 mW and the area is 53000 mu m(2) which are both improved in comparison to pervious conventional designs.

Deciding what technology to choose for commercial applications where the price, time to market and the performance of the chip, makes or breaks the product and sometimes a company as well. this paper attempts to analyze these issues from the perspective of a fables design house. It reviews the technical aspects of the processes that are provided by a number of foundries but sometimes are difficult to compare when BiCMOS and RFCMOS compete for the same application. the paper tries to establish a procedure where a number of figures of merit are compared against each other. Besides the technical aspects also the economical considerations are discussed. Ultimately, it is intended to help the designer/decision maker to decide what process to choose for the wireless or mixed signal and/or system on a chip designs.

this paper presents the electrothermal simulation of integratedthin film resistors. Boththe thermal and electrical problem is tackled by a semi-analytical method, without the need of generating an equivalent distributed network. As the electrical conductivity is temperature dependent, self-heating of the resistor will alterate the current distribution, leading to a non-uniform power dissipation. this then provokes a change of the temperature distribution, explaining the electrothermal coupling. Examples are given for various practical resistor designs. After a few iterations stable values for the electrical and thermal resistance and temperature and power distributions are obtained. the results show that even if one would anticipate the self-heating process based on an estimated average temperature, the behaviour will still deviate from the original design. this is caused entirely by the non-uniformity of the distributions inside the component.

A new 2xVDD-tolerant I/O buffer circuit, realized with only 1xVDD devices in nanoscale CMOS technology, to prevent transistors against gate-oxide reliability and hot-carrier degradation is proposed. the new proposed 2xVDD-tolerant I/O buffer has been implemented in a 130-nm CMOS process to serve a 2.5-V/1.2-V mixed-voltage interface without using the additional thick gate-oxide (2.5-V) devices. this 2xVDD-tolerant I/O buffer has been successfully confirmed by the experimental results with a signal speed of up to 133 MHz for PCI-X application.
