Visual mining refers to the cognitive process which integrates the human in analysis of information when using interactive visualization systems. this paper presents a classification scheme which provides user-centered representation of goals and actions that a user performs during the visual mining process. the classification scheme has been developed using content-analysis of published literature containing precise descriptions of different visual mining tasks in multiple fields of study. there were two stages in the development. First, we defined all the sub-processes of visual mining process. then we used these sub-processes as a template to develop the initial coding scheme prior to utilizing specific data from each of the publications. As analysis proceeded, additional codes were developed and the initial coding scheme was refined. the results of the analysis were represented in the form of a classification scheme of the visual mining process. the naturalistic methods recommended by Lincoln and Guba have been applied to ensure that the content analysis is credible, transferable, dependable and confirmable.

Evolutionary computation is a field defined by largedata sets and complex relationships. Because of this complexity it can be difficult to identify trends and patterns that can help improve future projects and drive experimentation. To address this we present evoVision3D, a multiscale 3D system designed to take data sets from evolutionary design experiments and visualize them in order to assist in their inspection and analysis. Our system is implemented in the Unity 3D game development environment, for which we show that it lends itself to immersive navigation through largedata sets, going even beyond evolution-based search and interactive data exploration.

Reuse of analysis methods and tools for data from different issue management systems is challenging because there are differences in how the data is accessed and represented. While various approaches for collecting and analysing software engineering data have been developed, they do not generally pay so much attention into how to actually get the data from various sources. this paper presents a combined model for issue management datathat is based on an investigation of four issue management systems. It also presents a proof of concept tool that can collect issue management data from different services into our analysis and visualization framework using an API description language that de- fines how to get the issue management data and how to convert it into our model. the aim of this approach is to allow the addition of new data sources by simply providing their API descriptions.
Since many components comprising large scale cloud datacenters have a great number of configuration parameters (e.g. hostnames, languages, and time zones), it is difficult to keep consistencies in the configuration pa...

Usefulness of graphically visualizing and manipulating largedata sets in oil and gas exploration and production is as important as ever. this paper describes the development and parallelization of a multi-phase 3D oil-water reservoir visualization tool on the IBM Cell computer and CUDA enabled GPU. An independent Oil reservoir simulator described in [1] was used to generate the pressure and oil / water saturation values over a certain period of time. the oil reservoir visualization tool displays data grids in a 3D environment and allows the user to interact with it. Due to large speed requirements, our aim is to parallelize the computations required to interact with and visualize the grid, mainly transformation [2], zooming, camera movement [3] and compute intensive lighting model [4][5]. this tool also allows the user to playback the simulation results over a time duration and fetches data values upon mouse click at a particular grid point on a particular day. the development environments are nVIDIA CUDA and IBM Cell SDK 3.0 along with QT and OpenGL libraries. Various experiments were run on an x86 computer with nVIDIA Quadro FX 5800 GPU, and on an IBM Cell BE computer with 1 QS20 Cell blade containing two 9-core Cell processor packages. Our results indicate that the nVIDIA GPU provides on average, speed up of 67x over serial implementation and IBM Cell BE with 16 SPE SIMD implementation 32x over the serial implementation.

A spatial multiplexing technique for distributed antenna systems is proposed, where the mobile co-located with multiple antennas is capable of receiving distinct sub-streams from multiple widely separated antennas. Modulation and power are adapted based on the knowledge of large-scale fading, which varies much slower than instantaneous channel state information. three modulation and power adaptation criteria are presented, which minimize the error probability, minimize the power consumption and maximize datathroughput, respectively. Simulations based on minimum error probability criterion illustrate the performance improvement compared with original V-BLAST. Based on minimum power consumption criterion and maximum datathroughput criterion, numerical results also indicate that DAS is more power efficient, spectral efficient and uniform in quality of service than co-located antenna systems (CAS), which validates the previous theoretic analysis results.

this demo paper introduces the final version of a cohort analysis module for the support of treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). It is not trivial to correctly diagnose the specific IBD in patients, and wrongly treated patients have to endure the disease effects for a long time, withlarge costs for the individuals and the healthcare systems. the goal of this work is complementing the examination of individual patients with interactive analyses of cohorts and populations with similar disease patterns to support learning from such similarities for future treatments. We report on additional data and functionality compared to 2021 and discuss an evaluation with eight IBD experts.
