the convective heat transfer rates and the flow fields downstream of a backward facing step with Re=9630 perturbed using a synthetic jet actuator were studied using experimental *** was found that the effect of the perturbation amplitude to the convective heat transfer rates was different in the three frequency ranges,St A≤0.04,0.08≤StA≤0.20 and St A ≥ *** the perturbation was in St A≤0.04,the main flow above the step flapped vertically with the perturbation,the main flow attached to the wall while flapping downward and the flapping motion was stronger when the perturbation amplitude was larger,but did little to the convective heat transfer *** the perturbation was in 0.08 ≤StA ≤0.20,the main flow also flapped with the perturbation,producing large scale structures,these structures entrained the naturally formed shear layer structures and a perturbation with a larger amplitude and a frequency closer to the shedding frequency had a larger impact on the flow,caused the maximum increase to the convective heat transfer *** the perturbation was in St A ≥0.20,the structures locked-in with *** flow did not seem to change significantly when the forcing frequency changed,small perturbation amplitude u'/U≤0.3 A ou U ￡ had a large impact on the flow,the effect of perturbation on the flow soon saturated when the forcing amplitude increased to u'/U≈*** the boundary layer of the coming flow was tripped,the convective heat transfer rates only deceased near the maximum location but not changed its maximum position.

Astroturfing is appearing in numerous contexts in social media, with individuals posting product reviews or political commentary under a number of different names, and is of concern because of the intended deception. An astroturfer works with the aim of making it seem that a large number of people hold the same opinion, promoting a consensus based on the astroturfer's intentions. It is generally done for commercial or political advantage, often by paid writers or ideologically-motivated writers. this paper brings the notion of authorship attribution to bear on the astroturfing problem, collecting quantities of data from public social media sites and analysing the putative individual authors to see if they appear to be the same person. the analysis comprises a binary n-gram method which was previously shown to be effective at accurately identifying authors on a training set from the same authors, while this paper shows how authors on different social media turn out to be the same author. © 2016 IEEE.

Bioinformatics is the science of managing, analyzing, extracting, and interpreting information from biological sequences and molecules. Recent advancements in microarray technology allow simultaneous monitoring of the expression levels of a large number of genes over different experiment conditions. Facing this huge amount of data, the biologist cannot simply use the traditional techniques in biology to analyze the data. In fact, information technologies are needed. Cluster analysis is of considerable interest and importance in the field of bioinformatics, either by clustering the genes or by clustering experiment conditions (samples). the clustering of genes is used to identify groups of genes with similar patterns of expression, aiming at helping to answer questions of how gene expression is affected by various diseases and which genes are responsible for specific diseases. the clustering of samples is used to organize the samples into intrinsic clusters such that samples with high similarity belong to same cluster. the significance of this clustering assists in diagnosis of the disease condition, and it discloses the effect of certain treatment on genes. In order to cluster the huge amount of gathered gene expression data, we propose a new partitional clustering-approach, combined with K-Means algorithm. the approach is compared with both K-Means and this approach before combination. the obtained results in terms of internal and external performance measures on a set of genomic benchmarks show the correctness and competence of the proposed approach. © 2016 IEEE.

analysis of long-period sea-level variation around the Korean Peninsula

Regional long-term changes in sea level were investigated at 19 tidal stations located around the Korean Peninsula using more than 30 years of tide-gauge data. Regression analysis was applied to these data, and general trends of long-term change (1960-2014) in RSL (relative sea level) were estimated at each station. the results showed that the rates of RSL rise around Korea were higher than the global mean. Rates of RSL rise were relatively small along the western coast (average of 2.0 mm/yr.), large along the southern and eastern coasts (average of 2.8 and 3.6 mm/yr., respectively), and very large around Jeju Island (average of 3.8 mm/yr.). the rate of RSL rise near the coast of Jeju Island was about twice the world ocean mean. Interannual variations in sea-level rise around Korea showed regional differences. According to recently Fifth Assessment Report of IPCC, the rate of sea-level rise could accelerate throughout the 21st century. this should be considered when designing coastal structures in order to prevent coastal disasters.

visualization of geographic data finds enormous applications in location finding, disaster management, resource allocation, mobility pattern detection etc. In this Big data era, location information is embedded in most of the available data. While many general purpose visualization tools available today fail to scale when handling big data and also lack visually appealing output, this paper aims to design and implement a web based application that offers Geographic visualization platform for users to create and publish interactive geographic maps based on large static as well as streaming geo datasets. the application is capable of integrating, analyzing and visualizing Big data from a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) perspective and here the application is tested with urban data sets and twitter streaming data to perform visualization and data driven analysis of mobility patterns and social networking activity. the application can be deployed in the cloud and can be accessed by any browser on any smart device.

Estimating Flooding Level through the Brazilian Coast Using Reanalysis data

this paper presents an estimative of coastal flooding level values distribution along the Brazilian coast by using reanalysis data and by simulating wave propagation with Snell approximation. the coast was divided into 24 zones and flooding levels series were calculated for each one. Mean and extreme distribution show higher flooding levels occurring in northern coast (3 in higher than beaches in central coast) followed by the southern coast (1 in higher than central coast). High values obtained on north region were associated with greater tidal elevations (maximum values > 3 in) while higher values in south were related to greater wave heights and higher storm surge elevations (similar to 2 in and >7 in respectively). A comparison between beach types were also conducted and demonstrate higher values of flooding levels during reflective conditions (0.3 m higher for a specific beach condition), as a result of the runup model applied. Although simplifications were used to calculate this large scale variation of the flooding level along the coast, the results partially presented here can be of large usefulness in pre-design phases of coastal projects and in preliminary risk analysis.

Malware analysis is an important means for information security. Malicious softwares emerge endlessly, which has saddled reverse analysis with high difficulty and heavy workload. In variants of a malware, many codes are reused with or without modifications. After a long term analysis on malwares, reverse engineers have accumulated a large number of analysis results. If the analysis results can be transferred to the corresponding functions of new version software, it is of great importance for efficiency improvement and workload reduction in malware analysis. the key point in this work is to identify the similar functions in different versions of a software. In this paper, we present a new method for matching similar function pairs, termed TPM (Two-stage Profile Matching). Based on our proposed features of functions, TPM recursively matches similar function pairs by combining with call relations and our decision rules. Experimental results show that, TPM can achieve the higher average precision, compared with 3-tuple CFG method and the comparable tools such as bindiff, diaphora and PatchDiff, in our test cases.

In the era of the mobile Internet, the problem of personal information leakage is becoming more and more serious. It is possible that third-parities (e.g., advertising companies, telecom operators) can easily obtain private user information by analyzing the Internet traffic flows to (or from) users. In this paper, in order to examine the degree of information leakage via the URLs, we propose an efficient Internet metadata analytics framework called URLSight, which attempts to profile user behaviors by simply analyzing the Internet metadata embedded in the URLs. Our analysis is based on a large dataset which contains one-month URL logs generated by around 100 thousand mobile users. After parsing and contextualizing URLs, URLSight can extract all the key-value pairs and perform co-occurrence processing to eliminate information redundancy. We also implement the URLSight framework on the Apache Spark platform to improve its performance. the results show that URLSight can effectively extract user privacy from URLs. Last, we also discuss a few practical approaches to defend against URL information leakage.

Multi-core architectures are widely used to execute large scale scientific applications with a shared memory parallelism. the locking policy of critical sections is to protect the data state if multiple threads are simultaneously accessing. Factors such as the portion of the critical section part to the parallel code, and the number of concurrency threads may affect the multi-threaded parallel processing and can then become a bottleneck constraining the overall performance. this paper discusses the impact of critical sections on the overall performance, both in the task parallel pattern and in the data parallel pattern. According to whether forming a congestion queue for a critical section, we propose two different performance models. Furthermore, we introduce an adaptive rule to swap two different models. In addition, according to the adaptive performance model of the critical section contention, an optimal parallel execution paradigm on multi-core architectures is discussed. the result reveals that the critical condition forming a congestion queue for a critical section is the optimal value of the overall parallel performance.

Affinity purification coupled with mass spectrometry (AP-MS) is a powerful technique for the identification and quantification of physical interactions. AP-MS requires careful experimental design, appropriate control selection and quantitative workflows to successfully identify bona fide interactors amongst a large background of contaminants. We previously introduced ProHits, a Laboratory Information Management System for interaction proteomics, which tracks all samples in a mass spectrometry facility, initiates database searches and provides visualization tools for spectral counting-based AP-MS approaches. More recently, we implemented Significance analysis of INTeractome (SAINT) within ProHits to provide scoring of interactions based on spectral counts. Here, we provide an update to ProHits to support data Independent Acquisition (DIA) with identification software (DIA-Umpire and MSPLIT-DIA), quantification tools (through DIA-Umpire, or externally via targeted extraction), and assessment of quantitative enrichment (through mapDlA) and scoring of interactions (through SAINT intensity). With additional improvements, notably support of the iProphet pipeline, facilitated deposition into ProteomeXchange repositories and enhanced export and viewing functions, ProHits 4.0 offers a comprehensive suite of tools to facilitate affinity proteomics studies. Significance: It remains challenging to score, annotate and analyze proteomics data in a transparent manner. ProHits was previously introduced as a LIMS to enable storing, tracking and analysis of standard AP-MS data. In this revised version, we expand ProHits to include integration with a number of identification and quantification tools based on data-Independent Acquisition (DIA). ProHits 4.0 also facilitates data deposition into public repositories, and the transfer of data to new visualization tools. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
