Photo-sharing websites such as Flickr and Panoramio contain millions of geotagged images contributed by people from all over the world. Characteristics of these data pose new challenges in the domain of spatio-temporal analysis. In this paper, we define several different tasks related to analysis of attractive places, points of interest and comparison of behavioral patterns of different user communities on geotagged photo data. We perform analysis and comparison of temporal events, rankings of sightseeing places in a city, and study mobility of people using geotagged photos. We take a systematic approach to accomplish these tasks by applying scalable computational techniques, using statistical and data mining algorithms, combined with interactive geo-visualization. We provide exploratory visual analysis environment, which allows the analyst to detect spatial and temporal patterns and extract additional knowledge from large geotagged photo collections. We demonstrate our approach by applying the methods to several regions in the world.

Volume visualization is an important tool in many scientific applications, requiring intensive processing and dealing withlarge amounts of data. therefore the size of these data always exceeds the processing and visualization capacities of the conventional workstations. In this technical poster we present our working in progress about techniques of data prefetching and data prediction to volume visualization on low cost PC clusters. Our approach is based on the Distributed Shared Memory (DSM) paradigm [3], which one can greatly facilitate the parallel programming efforts on volume visualization applications.

this paper describes the design and implementation of NISVAS, an application for interactive visualization of largethree-dimensional datasets produced by scientific applications that was developed in Java/Java3D. datavisualization with NISVAS maps dataset magnitudes into color, symbols and vectors. this paper presents the concepts and requirements for NISVAS graphical processing and user interface. the user interface is easy to use and learn, and supports different levels of user expertise. User reactions to NISVAS showed that all objectives were met, especially those relating to application performance and ease of use. Concluding remarks include directions for future development.
To assess the reliability of weather forecasts and climate simulations, common practice is to generate large ensembles of numerical simulations. Analyzing such data is challenging and requires pattern and feature dete...

As data sets grow to exascale, automated dataanalysis and visualisation are increasingly important, to intermediate human understanding and to reduce demands on disk storage via in situ analysis. Trends in architecture of high performance computing systems necessitate analysis algorithms to make effective use of combinations of massively multicore and distributed systems. One of the principal analytic tools is the contour tree, which analyses relationships between contours to identify features of more than local importance. Unfortunately, the predominant algorithms for computing the contour tree are explicitly serial, and founded on serial metaphors, which has limited the scalability of this form of analysis. While there is some work on distributed contour tree computation, and separately on hybrid GPU-CPU computation, there is no efficient algorithm with strong formal guarantees on performance allied with fast practical performance. We report the first shared SMP algorithm for fully parallel contour tree computation, with formal guarantees of O(lgnlgt) parallel steps and O(nlgn) work, and implementations with up to 10x parallel speed up in OpenMP and up to 50x speed up in NVIDIA thrust.

One of the most pressing tasks in the field of information security (IS) is the reduction of data processing time. Accurate and detailed datavisualization optimizes the analysis process. the article proposes a method for visualizing the IS threat model, which reduce the amount of time to process the IS threat model. the classic way to display the IS threat model is a table. Processing the classical model of IS threats is quite laborious and takes a long time for IS analysts. In addition, there remains the risk of missing part of the information due to the large amount of data. the visualization method proposed in the article includes a two- and three-dimensional representation of the threat model. Such visualization reduces the data processing time for the analyst and can be applied in the field of information security management. the result of this work is an approach to visualization of the IS threat model that takes into account the spatio-temporal factor.

City-scale events, such as festivals, sport events, concerts gather thousands of people in different areas of a city. By installing large area Wi-Fi routers which record the presence of people using devices such as smartphones and tables, the density and the movements of the crowds can he estimated and classified. analysis of crowd data collected during such events leads to valuable insights and feedback both for the parties involved and for city planners and advertisers. In this paper we present a analysis and visualization system for improved understanding of density and movement information. We discuss real datasets constraints, data clean-up techniques and methods for estimating and classifying the crowd movements. these methods are implemented inside a framework that allows easy integration and analysis of mobility datasets. As proof of concept we present the analysis of a real dataset collected during a city scale experiment in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

We present part of a research project aimed at mobile device security. During the project we have tested several methods of processing of data from mobile devices in order to detect attacks and suspicious activity in general. One method we have tested was also mining of processes found in mobile device activity logs and analysis of those processes. We have used several devices withthe Android (TM) OS, collected a large amount of activity data, including (simulated) harmful activity, and then modeled processes found in the data. Results of the comparison of these processes to the harmful activity suggest that this application of process mining shows promise, but also requires a lot of further research.
