Seven years ago (2016), we began integrating robotics into our Computer science curriculum. this paper explores the mission, initial goals and objectives, specific choices we made along the way, and why and outcomes. Of course, we were not the first to do so. Our contribution in this paper is to describe a seven-year experience in the hope that others going down this road will benefit, perhaps avoiding some missteps and dead-ends. We offer our answers to many questions that anyone undertaking bootstrapping a new robotics program may have to deal with. At the end of the paper, we discuss a set of lessons learned, including striking the right balance between depth and breadth in syllabus design and material organization, the significance of utilizing physical robots and criteria for selecting a suitable robotics platform, insights into the scope and design of a robotics lab, the necessity of standardizing hardware and software configurations, along with implementation methods, and strategies for preparing students for the steep learning curve.

the U.S. faces significant challenges in raising reading scores to match or surpass those of leading nations. this article posits that using educational robotics as a technology to teach reading literacy in early childhood, elementary, and after-school programs may improve reading literacy scores in the U.S. this paper provides historical context and definitions regarding STEAM in multiple iterations that combine science, art, technology, science, math, and engineering in classroom instruction. It provides analysis of factors which impact reading levels in the U.S. In addition, the distinction between robotics education and educational robotics is presented. Examples examining the impact of educational robotics on U.S. reading scores in multiple early education settings, including after school programs, at an elementary school are given with an emphasis on the activities, population, and the delivery method. the goal of this article is to provide empirical evidence regarding the usage of robotics in early education.

In this paper, we present a set of six activities using the Lego Spike Prime robotics kit. the primary learning objectives of these activities are to develop students' programming and algorithmic skills, computational thinking, and soft skills. Our research introduces one of the possible appropriate command sequences combined withthe specific sensors of the selected kit. this approach aims to respect the cognitive difficulty of the tasks based on the age of the students and, simultaneously, exploit the motivational potential of educational robotics. Unlike traditional programming, this allows teachers to incorporate hands-on activities as a modern element of teaching. the activities are designed with consideration for the framework and needs of the Slovak education system, specifically for a 90 min computer science lesson in lower secondary school. We conducted qualitative research in three different schools with students aged 10 to 15. these students were not necessarily robotics enthusiasts. Each task in every activity is briefly described, along withthe commands taught. these activities are the result of our iterative research and multiple implementations in the educational process, encompassing the design idea, used sensors, and commands.

this paper presents tailored sessions in a robotics laboratory course for undergraduate students. Each session is designed to help the students of different skill levels to gain practical experience, deepen their existing knowledge and learn robotics fundamentals such as Robot Operating System (ROS). Withthe help of a student survey, it could be shown that the division to well-balanced groups, an incremental structure of the exercises and a selection of different exercise types ensure this.
Omnidirectionality, that is (in the autonomous navigation context), ability to move in any direction at all times without extensive turning provides some nuances that can be leveraged greatly in many scenarios. this p...

Museums and exhibitions provide a valuable self-learning environment. And still, the experience can be enriched by educational robots. Whilst museum guiding robots have been known for over 20 years now, practical deployment of the typically bulky and expensive robots with high operation effort was limited to few large museums. Currently affordable commercial robots, often built for applications like telepresence robots with a standardized appearance, have entered the domain. With our approach we go a step further, towards a configurable low-cost open-source robot design to be built from off-the-shelf components. the software provides a framework for explanatory multi-media and educational game modules. this way, the robot is easily adaptable to different needs, both in appearance and behavior. We showcase our approach with a pilot project at a local children's natural science museum, operated by a volunteers team of curators.
