With the rapid advancement and broad applications of intelligent vehicles, the design towards the on-board intelligent system has emerged as one of research hot spots in the area of automotive software. In addition, graphical HMI (Human-Machine Interaction) has become the most important means of human-machine interaction thanks to its good user experience. For better graphical human-machine interaction, the framebuffer scheme provides a virtual driver scheme for display devices, which not only improves the portability of graphics system but significantly facilitates the development of graphical applications. Based on the framebuffer technique, this work proposes a graphical HMI mechanism for intelligent in-vehicle system, and then a lightweight GUI (Graphical User Interface) system based on our Hive operating system, which is called HiveGUI, is implemented upon embedded ARM platforms. the extensive measurement results show that the framebuffer-based HiveGUI system usually consumes very few memory resources (i.e., less than 50M) and low CPU occupancy (i.e., less than 8%) in our self-developed intelligent in-vehicle system, and thus can offer good experience for automobile users.

Efficient traffic control remains a challenging task, especially during and after special events such as emergency vehicle traversals or blocked links due to disabled vehicles. While existing approaches aim to reduce travel delays, they do not consider recovery from spillbacks caused by such interruptions in the traffic network. this paper (1) presents an optimal algorithm that maximizes the traffic flow through the road network while ensuring that spillbacks do not occur during normal operations, (2) proposes an effective, predictable mitigation strategy to recover from spillbacks caused by special events and which may have propagated through multiple links and/or intersections in the network, and (3) provides worst-case wait time bounds as well as recovery time bounds associated with the proposed techniques. Compared to existing approaches, our optimal strategy shows a 53.2% improvement in worst-case travel times. Additionally, our mitigation strategy can recover from spillbacks that have propagated through multiple links in the network by up to 50.9% quicker than the existing approaches.

Deviations between electric current measurements and reality can cause severe problems in the power train of electric vehicles (EVs). Among others, these are unnecessary power limitations and inaccurate performance coordination during driving or charging. One reason for these deviations are time delays. In this paper, we present three different approaches for time delay estimation (TDE) and evaluate these with real data from power trains of EVs. Besides the accuracy of the TDE, the focus of our evaluation lies on the computational efficiency to enable an execution on automotive electronic control units (ECUs). the Linear Regression approach suffers even from small noise and offsets in the measurement data and is unsuited for our purpose. A better alternative is the Variance Minimization approach. It is not only more noise-resistant but also very efficient after the first execution. Another interesting approach are Adaptive Filters presented by Emadzadeh et al. Unfortunately, Adaptive Filters do not reach the accuracy and efficiency of Variance Minimization in our experiments. thus, we recommend Variance Minimization for TDE of current signals in the power train of EVs.

this paper introduces a new control approach for energy Internet (EI) system management. the considered EI system includes multiple AC microgrids (MGs) interconnected via energy routers (ERs). Two control targets are considered to be satisfied. First, due to the stochastic power output change of loads, photovoltaic panels (PVs) and wind turbine generators (WTGs), the resulting AC bus frequency deviation is aimed to be regulated. Second, a constraint for the size of control input is restricted, such that the situation of over-control is avoided. We formulate such EI system management issue into a stochastic risk-sensitive control problem and solve it analytically. It is highlighted that we are focusing on developing engineering applications supported by the existing theoretical results. Indeed, this is the first time that EI system management issue is formulated as a risk-sensitive control problem. We emphasize that the obtained optimal controller is linear with system state, which is easy to be implemented in real-world applications. Simulations show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, we explore methods of generating accurate, real-time household energy usage predictions and the practical use cases for this prediction data. the ability to perform real-time prediction and the usefulness of such predictions are recent developments as connected smart energy devices become increasingly prevalent. these devices not only gather relevant data to learn historic trends, but can also improve overall grid functionality through direct device responsiveness. Machine learning has not yet been widely explored as an approach for this type of non-aggregated prediction, but we demonstrate its effectiveness as a tool even for this highly noisy data relative to other baseline and statistical approaches, and how all these approaches can complement each other. these predictions are crucial for enabling smart grid systems to effectively communicate their needs to the grid, and for the grid to appropriately prepare for future demand.

Latency and power consumption management are present-day hot topics for wearable devices and IoT applications. this paper presents the implementation of a low power system for hand movement recognition, based on surface ElectroMyoGraphic (sEMG) signals, suitable for human-machine interface. Every time the sEMG signal crosses a predefined threshold an event is generated, implementing the Average threshold Crossing (ATC) technique directly on-boards on the subject arm. Resulting quasi-digital signals, averaged over a fixed time window, are sent to an ARM Cortex-M4F processor which implements a fully-connected Neural Network (NN) able to recognize six different gestures from only three input channels. Dataset creation has involved 25 healthy people, each one performing five movements within five repeated sessions. the NN has been trained using the per-subject holdout validation method, obtaining an accuracy of 96.34%. With a maximum latency of 8.5 ms and an average power consumption of only 0.8mW at full recognition rate, the proposed NN implementation shows promising results.

Inter-core communication is a central challenge in many-core systems for which Network-on-chips (NoCs) have been demonstrated to scale well and to provide good overall performance. However, not only the distributed structure but also the link switching of NoCs have imposed a great challenge in the design and analysis for real-time systems where timing verification is mandatory. NoC protocols like worm-hole switching are designed with scalability and flexibility in mind, thus the existing link switching protocols usually consider each single link to be scheduled independently. the flexibility of such link-based arbitrations allows each packet to be distributed over multiple switches but also increases the number of possible link states (the number of flits in a buffer) that have to be considered in the worst-case timing analysis for real-time systems. To achieve timing predictability by design, we propose a family of less flexible switching protocols, called Simultaneous Progressing Switching Protocols (SP 2 ), in which the links used by a flow either all simultaneously transmit one flit (if it exists) of this flow or none of them transmits any flit of this flow. Based on the all-or-nothing property of Sp 2 , we reduce the schedulability of the NoC to the uniprocessor self-suspension scheduling problem. Moreover, the proposed approach is not limited to any specific underlying routing protocols, which are usually constructed for deadlock avoidance instead of timing predictability.

Digital twin (DT) and additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are key enablers for smart manufacturing systems. DTs of AM systems are proposed in recent literature to provide additional analysis and monitoring capabilities to the physical AM processes. this work proposes a DT framework for real-time performance monitoring and anomaly detection in fused deposition modeling (FDM) AM process. the proposed DT framework can accommodate AM process measurement data to model the AM process as a cyber-physical system with continuous and discrete event dynamics, and allow for the development of various applications. A new performance metric is proposed for performance monitoring and a formal specification based anomaly detection method is proposed for AM processes. Implementation of the proposed DT on an off-the-shelf FDM printer and experimental results of anomaly detection and process monitoring are presented at the end.

Seamless mobility management is considered as an important cornerstone of fifth generation (5G) networks. In fact, it is considered as one of the requirements for the next generation all-IP to fulfill their services in real-time. It allows devices and users to maintain highly seamless connectivity by switching between multiple wireless network using Vertical HandOver techniques (VHO). To address this need, some mobility management solutions have been proposed by researchers in order to support the VHO of devices using the Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) protocol. However, these solutions suffer from lack of security. For that, a new secure protocol, called Secure Fast PMIPv6 for Vertical HandOver (SFPMIPv6-VHO), is proposed in this paper. the proposed schema ensures a strong authentication in the case of the VHO between the Evolved Packet System (EPS) of Long Term Evolution (LTE) and the Wireless Fidelity (WIFI) using FPMIPv6 protocol. In addition, it suggested the integration of the Access Network Discovery and Selection Function (ANDSF) to perform an authentication preparation of user equipment (UE) in the selected network due to the limits of discover heterogeneous networks in the case of the PMIPv6 protocol. Our proposed protocol is modeled and validated using the tools of Automated Validation of Internet Security Protocols and applications (AVISPA) and Security Protocol Animator for AVISPA (SPAN). the results of our simulations indicate that our protocol is robust against various attacks and that responds to our goals. © 2019 ieee.

the ability to perform semantic segmentation in real-time capable applications with limited hardware is of great importance. One such application is the interpretation of the visual bird's-eye view, which requires the semantic segmentation of the four omnidirectional camera images. In this paper, we present an efficient semantic segmentation that sets new standards in terms of runtime and hardware requirements. Our two main contributions are the decrease of the runtime by parallelizing the ArgMax layer and the reduction of hardware requirements by applying the channel pruning method to the ENet model.
