the phenomenon of entrainment in conversation is the process where participants become more similar to each other in terms of different verbal and non-verbal aspects such as acoustic-prosodic, lexical, syntactic, pitch, and speech rate. this process of becoming similar to each other is the key to effective human-human conversation. To replicate the effectiveness observed in human-human conversation, it is equally critical to explore the occurrence of entrainment within human-machine conversation. this review article examines the various non-verbal and verbal aspects that machines are able to adapt for improved entrainment in human-machine conversation. Initially, we categorize the specific verbal and non-verbal behaviors of human users that machines are capable of adapting. Subsequently, we analyze the likely challenges that have prevented the speech technology sector from enabling smooth, natural interactions between humans and machines. these obstacles have hindered the industry's ability to leverage the phenomenon of entrainment for more fluid and intuitive human-machine conversation. Finally, we advocate for a mechanomorphic design strategy in human-machine conversation, outlining the rationale for its potential efficacy.

three-wheeler E-rickshaws (E3W or E-rickshaws) are one of India's most widely adopted electric vehicles (EVs) for short-distance transportation. these E-rickshaws have two different types of dashboards (Analog and Digital dashboards), which provide essential information needed to operate the vehicle like battery status, speed, and odometer. Hence, the design of the dashboards emerges as one of the critical factors influencing driving experiences and overall EV adoption. this study aims to identify the needs, barriers, and facilitators among the drivers in using different E-rickshaw dashboards in their everyday work. Using a qualitative approach involving observation and semi-structured interviews, 15 male drivers with varying E-rickshaw experience (mean age 42.93 years) were studied. Seven analog and eight digital dashboards from different models were analyzed. the findings reveal the significance of integrating analog and digital dashboards into E-rickshaws. Drivers emphasized accurate battery percentage information and timely low-battery alerts as crucial needs. Language barriers, inadequate visibility, technical complexity, lack of standardized dashboard layout, and absence of feedback were identified as design barriers. Accurate battery status and speed information were facilitators for digital dashboards, while familiar interface design and easy battery monitoring techniques were facilitators for analog dashboards. this study pioneers research in the indian context, providing guidelines to enhance E-rickshaw dashboard designs for a more user-friendly experience. the insights gained offer valuable contributions to improving E-rickshaw technology, aligning it more closely with user needs and preferences.

To systematically understand the global characteristics of virtual reality user interface designresearch in the international context, grasp the current research hotspots and theoretical foundations of virtual reality user interface design, and explore new trends in future development based on current research hotspots. Using the literature related to virtual reality user interface design collected by Web of Science as the data source, we use VOSviewer and CiteSpace to map the scientific knowledge in terms of year output distribution, country, research institution, author, reference co-citation and keyword clustering, and conduct visual analysis to sort out the research. the results show that the overall number of literature in the search area is on the rise, and China and the United States are in the leading position in research. the research hotspots are mainly focused on "user interface design", "hci", "system", "virtual environment", "visualization", etc., and the research status is relatively mature. human-centered computing, mixed reality, augmented reality, education, experience, immersive virtual reality, interaction paradigm, and 3D modeling become the new trend of future development. the lack of close collaboration between research institutions and authors and the small number of high-production authors are the main limitations of this stage of research.
