the urban realm is currently undergoing a transformation in which cities are being laced with sensors and networks of ever-connected devices. At the same time, more and more novel and advanced materials are finding their way into interactiondesign and human-computerinteraction (HCI) research, offering us new interaction possibilities. In this half-day online studio, attendees will have the opportunity to exchange and reflect on urban interactiondesigns for user engagement based on a set of novel, unconventional, or omnipresent materials in urban environments. We will further collect historical, public, and community locations of different social and societal meaning. Participants will be asked to develop handson concepts and use cases for the selected locations through a material-centered approach and think about new levels of user-environment engagement to extend and explore the current design space. the formulated concepts and use cases will be recorded in an online collaboration tool withthe prospect to publish them as enhances for the new generation of media architecture.

Most explainable AI (XAI) research projects focus on well-delineated topics, such as interpretability of machine learning outcomes, knowledge sharing in a multi-agent system or human trust in agent's performance. For the development of explanations in human-agent teams, a more integrative approach is needed. this paper proposes a perceptual-cognitive explanation (PeCoX) framework for the development of explanations that address boththe perceptual and cognitive foundations of an agent's behavior, distinguishing between explanation generation, communication and reception. It is a generic framework (i.e., the core is domain-agnostic and the perceptual layer is model-agnostic), and being developed and tested in the domains of transport, health-care and defense. the perceptual level entails the provision of an Intuitive Confidence Measure and the identification of the "foil" in a contrastive explanation. the cognitive level entails the selection of the beliefs, goals and emotions for explanations. Ontology design Patterns are being constructed for the reasoning and communication, whereas interactiondesign Patterns are being constructed for the shaping of the multimodal communication. First results show (1) positive effects on human's understanding of the perceptual and cognitive foundation of agent's behavior, and (2) the need for harmonizing the explanations to the context and human's information processing capabilities.

Hand gestures are natural and intuitive communication way for the human being to interact with his environment. they serve to designate or manipulate objects, to enhance speech, or communicate in a noisy place. they can also be a separate language. Gestures can have different meanings according to the language or culture. they can also be a way to interact with machines. the subject of our research concerns the design and development of computer vision methods for recognizing hand gestures by a mobile device. We have proposed a system based on SVM for recognizing various hand gestures. the system consists of four steps: hand segmentation, smoothing, feature extraction and classification. the idea here is to allow the smartphone to perform all necessary steps to recognize gestures without the need to connect to a computer in which a database is located to perform training process. Withthis system, all steps can be done by the smartphone. In this paper, for image acquisition, frontal camera of the smartphone is used. After that frames are gotten from the video, the color sampling is done which is followed by making binary representation of the hand, and then contours representing the hand were described with convex polygons to get information about fingertips and finally the input gesture was recognized using proper classifier.

Visual content generation is an active area of research nowadays with considerable work. Still leaving possibilities for enhancement. However, in this area, the domain of the Hindi language has remained unexplored, largely due to the scarcity of linguistic resources. As Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in this world, such work will be a considerable contribution to the research. this paper introduces the HGAN (Hindi Generative Adversarial Network) for creating high-quality visual content from textual descriptions in Hindi and allows the user to change specific image attributes. To ensure diversity, word-level spatial attention and channel-wise attention mechanisms are employed to enable the model to offer control over the attributes of generated content. HGAN shows considerably good results, a 20.3% increase in IS and a 16.6% decrease in reconstruction error on the Hindi dataset than state-of-theart methods.

Planning and conducting User Experience (UX) activities in a structured and scientific manner has many advantages. It is important that UX Professionals understand the scientific basis of UX methods and leverage them to enhance the UX of the application being designed. It would also be easier for the UX designer to get a buy-in from the stakeholders if his design recommendations are based in scientific logic and whetted by supporting data. In this course, UX relevant social sciences based scientific concepts and methods will be presented to the audience in a way which is simple to understand and easily to assimilate.

interactiondesign is a complex and challenging process. It encompasses skills and knowledge from design in general as well as from HCI and software design in particular. In order to find better ways to support interactiondesign and propose methods and tools to further the research in this area we must first better understand the nature of interactiondesign in practice. In this paper we present two small case studies which attempt to analyse design and decision-making through the lens of one particular theoretical framework. the framework seeks to focus design activities via its artifacts and the design spaces that exist in order to support reasoning about the process and the evolution of the artifacts. Our case studies show that we can use such a framework to consider real-world design projects, and also that there are further considerations that might usefully be included in such a framework.

Immersive analytics is an active research area that explores human-centric approaches to data exploration and analysis based on spatial arrangement and visualization of data elements in immersive 3D environments. the proliferation of extended reality (XR) technologies amplifies the need for design guidelines to help create coherent user experiences in XR environments. One of the important challenges is the accurate placement and identification of various visual elements. We explore the iterative design of the placement of visual elements and interaction withthem in an immersive analytics environment based on frames of reference. the choice of a frame of reference can impact usability, ease of interaction, degree of immersion, and task performance, among other things. Our first design iteration explores the impact of visualization scale for two frames of reference: egocentric and exocentric. In response to the findings from the first study and based on performance measures such as degree of immersion, rank order, and subjective user feedback, tethered frame of reference is added to the second iteration. the second design iteration uses the collected user feedback to explore and compare the advantages and limitations of these three frames of reference. the findings are used to inform design guidelines.
