this paper contributes to the expanding research on toxicity in online games, exploring the relationship between game design and player behaviours in India. Using an ethnographic approach and in-depth interviews with gamers, we capture firsthand accounts of toxic gaming experiences, delving into game design, game mechanics, and player interactions intersecting to shape player behaviours. While previous research on toxicity in gaming environments has largely focused on the role of game design, aspects of gender and, to a lesser extent, race, primarily within the context of the Global North, our study shifts the focus to India and, by extension, the Global South. We seek to uncover broader dimensions of gaming toxicity that go beyond design and gender. Our analysis examines the underlying factors contributing to the prevalence and persistence of toxic behaviours in indian gaming environments by highlighting the influence of cultural and contextual elements in producing toxic behaviours. Expanding the scope of research to include these overlooked aspects, our study aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the complexities of toxicity in online gaming spaces within the indian context.

Many mother tongues worldwide are facing a decline in usage and reputation [1], including Awadhi, spoken in Uttar Pradesh, India. Despite its rich literary heritage, Awadhi is often viewed as unsophisticated and inferior, partly due to a lack of awareness and limited use in education and employment [2]. UNESCO's World Atlas of Languages lists Awadhi as having a 'Potentially Vulnerable' language status situation [3]. this project aims to raise awareness about Awadhi through interactive exhibitions, which may eventually enhance perception about it. For this we are targeting young adults aged 17-25 years in schools and colleges in Uttar Pradesh's Awadh region. However, our project scope does not aim for them to start speaking Awadhi.

Virtual Reality (VR) technology has emerged as a transformative medium for immersive experiences, particularly within the entertainment sector. However, challenges persist in terms of accessibility and user interaction, hindering widespread adoption. this paper addresses these challenges by exploring and developing natural, intuitive, and culturally relevant hand gestures tailored for VR video streaming applications, focusing on YouTube VR. Drawing upon existing literature and user feedback, we identified the need for more intuitive interaction methods, particularly for volume control and pause-play functions. through our user study, we proposed 9 unique hand gestures. Results from user studies indicate that these gestures have cultural relevance, with participants finding them easy to use and accessible, even for users with hand-shivering health issues. this research contributes to enhancing the user experience in YouTube VR and informs the development of more intuitive interaction methods for VR applications, ultimately fostering broader acceptance and engagement in the VR space.

Recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, especially Generative AI (GenAI), are helping individuals in content generation and collaborative work, thus enhancing the quality of the work. In this paper, we investigate if ChatGPT, one of the most popular GenAI tools, is ready to cater to the capabilities, expectations and needs of the non-English speaking, emergent users of digital technologies. To understand this space among non-English speakers, we conducted a user study with15 non-English speakers in the state of Telangana, India. To assess the experience of emergent users using ChatGPT, we set them tasks of querying ChatGPT, and contrasted it withthe same tasks on Google, a traditional search engine. We asked them to rate the platforms for ease of use and the understanding of the users' language. We draw insights from the study through user ratings of the interactions and logging user observations during the interactions. We derive a few design recommendations for designers and researchers working on voice-based conversational GenAI tools.

Many innovative text input methods exist but are scarce in indian languages. In this paper, we aim to explore a novel text input method for the Malayalam language. this method is gesture-based, where specific hand movements using the natural demarcations of the hand are mapped to particular characters, which enables typing. this is implemented using an image processing program to track key points on our hands, which allows us to distinguish between different gestures accurately. We conducted a study to identify which gestures provide higher accuracy, and least confusion. Using the results, we mapped the gestures to Malayalam and conducted an empirical longitudinal study, which analyzed the speed and accuracy of this prototype. this method yielded a 40+ CPM, which is comparable to similar text input studies in other languages. this technology can be further developed to assist users in various ways, such as providing a communication guide or aiding in daily activities.

the Dreamcatcher project explores subconscious imagery by integrating brainwave data with AI-generated imagery to create a 3D sculpture. the project explores the connections between dream imagery and waking life and investigates the concept of synchronicity, drawing on Jungian psychological theories. By documenting images perceived during hypnagogic states, the artwork examines the potential of dreams to reflect deeper psychological insights. the project serves as a non-clinical exploration of how technology can intersect with subconscious processes, contributing to broader discussions on the relationship between mind and technology.

Vision impairment is four times more prevalent in developing countries like India as compared to high-income areas and impacts the psychological development of a person in many ways. this paper explores training methods for partially visually impaired individuals (PVIs) using Virtual Reality (VR) technology. the study discusses the development of aVR game in a school environment aimed at improving spatial audio perception among partially visually impaired users. We conducted a user study that addresses a significant gap in educational and training tools for PVIs. this study found that the users could locate the sound source within 15 dB sound attenuation, withthe best result locating within 6 dB sound attenuation falling within the radius of 22 cm from the sound source, suggesting potential in training. the findings suggest the potential efficiency of VR-based training in enhancing spatial perception skills in the partially visually impaired, as the results are concurrent withthose in real-world settings.

Technology-based solutions can potentially support older adults in managing their health and fitness routines. However, their adoption among this demographic is low. In this systematic review, we explore the research landscape in this domain by investigating 78 publications published over the past decade from two prominent databases. Our primary objective is to understand how these studies integrate essential contextual factors, particularly cultural and socio-economic influences, in their design and development phases. Our analysis identifies various contextual factors, with social factors emerging as a prominent influence. Additionally, our analysis reveals disparities in research across countries with varying levels of economic development. Based on these findings, our recommendations include promoting research initiatives in economically disadvantaged areas, considering older adults' diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and incorporating relevant contextual factors in the design of technology solutions, long-term assessments to gauge the sustained impact of these solutions on older adults.

Computational thinking helps to break down complex issues leading to solutions, learning this skill is essential to navigate in digital world. Learning through games is one strategy used in the past. this strategy is used in this board game (Branch Master) to explain binary search tree (BST) based searching and insertion operations. A strong connection between content and gameplay is created by employing an endogenous design based on BST operations to promote computational thinking in a social context. the game is built considering players know how to compare two numbers with minimalistic rules. the game has an inherent challenge due to conflict and competition which will make players engage throughout the game play.

Cancer profoundly impacts both patients and their caregivers, often leading to social isolation and emotional distress. this study examines the complex challenges encountered by these groups, highlighting the scarcity of comprehensive support systems in India. By understanding the critical needs of patients and caregivers, the research identifies key opportunities for developing interventions aimed at creating a supportive community. the proposed intervention leverages technology to create a network that connects individuals based on shared interests. Unlike traditional support systems that concentrate solely on medical care, this network is designed to provide emotional support and foster social interaction, enabling individuals to engage in activities and discussions unrelated to their illness. this approach addresses social isolation by fostering connections grounded in common preferences, allowing patients and caregivers to rediscover aspects of their identities beyond cancer. through this empathetic community, patients and caregivers can attain not only support but also a renewed sense of self and connection, thereby significantly enhancing their quality of life.
