With the rapid proliferation of integration of blockchain and IoT, traditional centralized architectures and single-node processing have been effectively solved, but scalability of blockchain have become inadequate to meet the demands of high-load environments. Sharded blockchain brings an innovative approach to tackle the scalability of blockchain and has the potential to greatly enhance the performance of IoT based on blockchain. this paper introduces CTS towards IoT – complete tree sharding that overlaps shards to enable a little shards to retain records of other shards, facilitating the validation of cross-shard transactions as intra-shard transactions. A tree sharding consensus mechanism that relies on the complete tree architecture is proposed to ensure consistency among interconnected shards during the execution of cross-shard transactions. A prototype for CTS towards IoT is simulated and the findings demonstrate that CTS can enhance transaction throughput by a factor of 1.3 when compared to state of the art layered sharding systems observed in a system consisting of 15 shards and 1500 nodes. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Container-based microservice provisioning, with its elasticity in terms of the layered structure, enables the sharing of common layers among different edge computing tasks, both within and across edge servers (ES). However, due to the potential hardware breakdowns, each ES may prone to failures, affecting its lifetime (i.e., the time-length that an ES works continuously without interruptions), and in turn leading to the collapse of their hosted/provided microservices or the other ESs’ microservices requesting common layers from it. Obviously, if such an issue cannot be well addressed, the reliability of microservices in serving corresponding tasks may be severely reduced. In this paper, we study the microservice deployment optimization with layer sharing for maximizing the system-wide reliability while satisfying all tasks’ delay requirements. Considering dynamic task generations and the asynchronization of various decision variables with different triggers, we design an online optimization algorithm by leveraging an improved Lyapunov technique integrating randomized rounding and Lagrangian method, which iteratively solves the problem over different timescales. theoretical analyses and simulations evaluate the performance of the proposed solution, and show its superiority over counterparts. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

the realm of Smart Grid Systems (SGS) has witnessed unprecedented progress, driven by increasing energy demands and the integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES). While these grids promise enhanced efficiency and sustainability, their involved and dynamic nature poses significant optimization challenges. Existing solutions, although innovative, often overlook the intricate interplay between diverse factors, leaving room for potential improvements in optimization approaches. Recognizing this gap, the current study delves into developing a novel method that integrates Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) with domain-specific heuristics. By focusing on analytical sections like Load Forecasting, Renewable Energy Integration, Peak Shaving, and Grid Resilience, this method attempts to bridge the divide that existing approaches miss. the proposed method not only ensures optimal energy distribution but also tailors the solution to address the unique features and requirements of modern SGS. the digital transformation of music education is a pivotal innovation, addressing both the evolution of teaching methodologies and the democratization of access to musical and cultural heritage. the ERASMUS+ KA210 YOUth-funded project, "Musique et Langues Minoritaires Régionales" (MUS-LaMiRé), exemplifies this synergy by focusing on safeguarding European multilingualism through the non-formal musical education of young individuals (aged 13 to 30). this paper explores the integration of digital tools in MUS-LaMiRé, emphasizing their role in the preservation and dissemination of endangered minority languages and fostering a dynamic cultural exchange within the framework of the Small European Orchestra of Linguistic Minorities. Today, computer technologies are becoming more accessible to everyone. Even at a young age, people are confronted with information technologies (IT) in their daily lives. therefore, computer science is becoming increasingly important, and its study is becoming more and more necessary. At Tallinn University of technology (TalTech), the Study Centre for IT Foundations focuses on teaching IT fundamentals to first-year non-IT students from Estonia and abroad. Current computer science teaching standards focus on developing the fundamental computational thinking and knowledge necessary for success in the digital age. At the same time, there are several private initiatives, such as IT bootcamps, online courses, hackathons, and programming competitions, as well as various technical communities where people can expand their IT skills. However, such standards are not adapted in all countries and are often adapted to the level of IT knowledge and needs of the country. In addition, private initiatives often focus only on the practical part without providing the details of the academic foundation. In TalTech students join the IT Foundations course from all over the world that complicates the usage of some specific teaching standard in computer science education. In this paper, authors provide flexible student-oriented approach based on the analysis of first-year non-IT students’ entry knowledge level calculated with preliminary quizzes for constant improvement of the TalTech teaching standard in computer science field. this approach enables agile changes in course while following the latest needs and standards in the IT industry. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Empirical data from the survey further enriches the study, offering a real-world perspective on the reception and perceived impact of AI-powered educational tools. this data provides a unique lens through which the practical implications of AI in education are examined, considering factors such as learner engagement, satisfaction, and academic performance. the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence, big data, and generative AI models has ushered in significant transformations across various sectors, including education. Digital Human Technique, an innovative technology grounded in advanced computer science and artificial intelligence, is reshaping educational paradigms by enabling virtual humans to simulate human behavior, express emotions, and interact with users. this paper explores the application of Digital Human Technique in education reform, focusing on creating immersive, intelligent classroom experiences that foster meaningful interactions between teachers and students. We define Digital Human Technique and delve into its key technical components such as character modeling and rendering, natural language processing, computer vision, and augmented reality technologies. Our methodology involves analyzing the role of educational digital humans created through these technologies, assessing their impact on educational processes, and examining various application scenarios in educational reform. Results indicate that Digital Human Technique significantly enhances the learning experience by enabling personalized teaching, increasing engagement, and fostering emotional connections. educational digital humans serve as virtual teachers, interactive learning aids, and facilitators of emotional interaction, effectively addressing the challenges of traditional educational methods. they also promote a deeper understanding of complex concepts through simulated environments and interactive digital content. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

the widespread application of Industrial Internet of things (IIoT) has profoundly transformed modern industrial production methods. However, the large scale of industrial data, the diversity of data sources, and the heterogeneity of data structures make data maintenance exceptionally challenging. the editability techniques have been introduced into blockchain to leverage its distributed and editable features for data maintenance and management. However, existing solutions mainly focus on achieving editability while overlooking data management personnel’s privacy protection and lacking effective modification verification mechanisms to ensure data reliability. To address these issues, this paper proposes a verifiable decentralized data modification mechanism supporting accountability (DDMA) for securing IIoT. Our DDMA mechanism not only achieves the redactability of blockchain but also protects the privacy of data management personnel and provides reliable clues for subsequent accountability. Additionally, the DDMA mechanism offers an efficient method for modification verification, enabling rapid validation of whether on-chain data has been modified. theoretical analysis demonstrates that DDMA meets the requirements of modification authorization, behavior traceability, and efficient modification verification. the main content of this study is to improve the accuracy and speed of road potholes detection, and establish a system with real-time road surface detection and integrated data reporting. In response to some drawbacks of traditional methods, this paper proposes a lightweight road pothole detection model based on improved YOLOv8-GD. By replacing the neck feature fusion network in the YOLOv8 model with the aggregation and distribution mechanism (GD), the cross layer fusion ability of the model for feature information of potholes and the generalization ability of the model are improved. For the bumpy data-set collected in complex road environments, the author applied different exposure and noise reduction treatments to the images in the data-set. Based on the original data-set, different treatments were applied to each data-set. the trained model on this basis has higher recognition accuracy and makes the system’s model training more robust. evaluation results demonstrate promising performance across various IoU thresholds, indicating its effectiveness in accurately localizing fruits within bounding boxes. Additionally, YOLOv8-GD exhibits substantial improvements in detection performance, achieving high precision and recall rates. the system has improved accuracy and efficiency, making it more suitable for the deployment and application of road inspection and mobile detection equipment in practical scenarios. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) require new interventions because social communication can be specially challenging. Such interventions could help social skills grow. Collaborative virtual reality (VR) technology enables having different interactive and engaging environments. It offers a promising ways for improving many skills since people can safely engage with others as well as learn with others. this paper reviews the application of collaborative VR in improving social skills among children with ASD. the reviews shows the potential of collaborative VR to simulate deeply dynamic social interactions in a carefully controlled setting as well. Different studies show that collaborative VR use can help children with ASD improve empathy, social understanding, and teamwork. However, there are still some difficulties including accessibility as well as the possible need for individualized interventions and potential sensory overload. this review points out the opportunities that collaborative VR provides for meaningful learning improvements and for the large practice of social interactions in an engaging way. It also discusses the actual obstacles,that need to be addressed, to completely maximize the advantages of VR technologies regarding social skills development in ASD. the provided analysis could help support innovation and research in the field.
