this paper is concerned with X-ray volume visualization by means of wavelet splatting, a wavelet-based extension to splatting. Wavelet splatting allows multiresolution visualization of volume data. During user interaction, only low resolution images are computed. When interaction ceases, the image is refined incrementally. We discuss a particular implementation of wavelet splatting which was proposed previously, and show that certain rendering artefacts appear in the low resolution images, due to the particular ordering of the wavelet coefficients. We propose a new variant that uses a different ordering, and computes low resolution images based on the wavelet approximation coefficients only. this variant does not suffer from artefacts, and is faster by a factor of two to three.

Over the past thirty years, technical means to record, digitize, store, process, and present video image sequences have multiplied in capacity by several orders of magnitude. this large quantitative improvement is about to turn into a qualitative change regarding the research to be pursued within this area in the future. Whereas up to now an exploratory type of approach has prevailed, the increasingly available technical means for image sequence evaluation facilitate the investigation of large amounts of data. this requires to build encompassing systems and to study their behavior which in turn is expected to stimulate theoretical developments: even small effects of an assumption can be studied in detail within a system environment, thereby enabling stepwise improvements of theoretical approaches underlying the construction of system solutions. the following discussion will emphasize fundamental experimental and theoretical advances rather than details of particular approaches.

the presence of both caption/graphics/superimposed and scene texts in video frames is the major cause for the poor accuracy of text recognition methods. this paper proposes an approach for identifying tampered information by analyzing the spatial distribution of DCT coefficients in a new way for classifying caption and scene text. Since caption text is edited/superimposed, which results in artificially created texts comparing to scene texts that exist naturally in frames. We exploit this fact to identify the presence of caption and scene texts in video frames based on the advantage of DCT coefficients. the proposed method analyzes the distributions of both zero and non-zero coefficients (only positive values) locally by moving a window, and studies histogram operations over each input text line image. this generates line graphs for respective zero and non-zero coefficient coordinates. We further study the behavior of text lines, namely, linearity and smoothness based on centroid location analysis, and the principal axis direction of each text line for classification. Experimental results on standard datasets, namely, ICDAR 2013 video, 2015 video, YVT video and our own data, show that the performances of text recognition methods are improved significantly after-classification compared to before-classification.

We have developed a program to obtain, by simulation, the impulse response of the indoor wideband radio channel. the program generates a sequence, in successive runs, of channel impulse responses, over different transmitter-receiver separation distances. the amplitudes, delays and phases are generated; based on a statistical model, the model parameters of the paths arriving at the receiver are introduced by the user, matching the simulation to the desired environment. the transmitter and receiver antenna gains, the operating wavelength and the receiver sensitivity are also user entries. the program is implemented in MATLab/spl trade/ 6.5 and it has a user-friendly interface, operating by means of easy to use menus, where the user introduces the parameters and data. As result, one simulator run obtains an impulse response graphic, amplitudes vs. arrival times, and a file that contains, in a results table, amplitude, arrival time and phase for every simulated path. Successive runs obtain, in other results tables, the radio channel parameters, such as total multipath gain, path loss, RMS delay spread and excess delay.

In this paper, a new real-time model based pose determination system based on the Gauss-Newton method is described. Various model fitting strategies, which use gradient search, are discussed and compared. A novel strategy, the adaptive perpendicular search, is proposed for both matching ambiguity avoidance and convergence enforcement. the system is shown to be highly effective in practice, while keeping the computational cost low. A sufficient initial pose estimate as an input for the Gauss-Newton based methods is obtained from the parametric eigenspace. With certain restrictions, the overall pose determination system performs in real-time, as required in industrial applications.

Geological visualisation while working in the field often requires expensive specialised equipment that is conventionally hard to master. Knowledge and prior experience of the specific techniques and formats used by the different devices is required to create data. this paper presents a new method that applies Augmented Reality (AR) with generic smart phones and tablets to view existing geological data sets. AR is an emerging technology that is a synthesised hybrid between the virtual world and the real world. Here, this method negates the need to understand mapping techniques when referencing three-dimensional (3D) models to the above ground terrain. Geologists can explore subterranean phenomenon with datasets visually laid accurately over the environment so the need to reference diagrams and maps to the physical world while in the field is no longer necessary. Geologists can see data as though it were part of the environment, analogous to giving them x-ray vision in the field. We present a prototype that can be applied in fields of education or as device to assist the mining industry to enhance understanding of subterranean geological structures. For example, volcanic structures, faults and fractures can be seen as they would appear from the surface or mine data such as tunnels, ventilation, ore bodies and rock types. AR techniques used for geological visualisation in the field is a new application area with potential for wider commercial applications.

In contrast to optical imagery, modern high resolution IFSAR sensors deliver intensity images and corresponding interferometric height and coherence data from a single flight path at pixel sizes of 30 cm to 10 cm. Due to the all-weather, day-night applicability of SAR sensors, multiple views over short time can be easily obtained. However, many image users find it difficult to "read" radar images. they differ from the natural human visual impression and the familiar analogy communicated by optical imagery. the goal of our work is to convert radar data into models of the terrain and render those models in analogy to the optical sensing approach that the human visual system represents. therefore intelligent combinations of multiple views and measurements from all IFSAR data sources available are necessary to help to overcome problems inherent in the SAR data as e.g., blur, speckle, layover and shadow. Using basic image analysis methods we present in this paper our first fully automated approach to separate buildings from other objects in an IFSAR dataset. the building shapes are reconstructed using a simple building model and the results are compared to measurements made from optical imagery.

Generative opposed Networks (GANs) are a generative model broadly utilized in device mastering, PC vision, and herbal language processing (NLP). GANs hire neural networks, a generator, and a discriminator that are trained collectively to be able to generate realistic-looking statistics, along with photographs, audio clips, or 3-D scenes. In this painting, we are aware of $3-\mathrm{D}$ scene reconstruction using GAN-based total methods. We aim to generate 3-D scenes from given 2nd pics, allowing us to benefit from insight into the structure and layout of complicated 3-D environments. To this end, we endorse leveraging a method known as inverse rendering to enhance the accuracy of the reconstructed 3-D scenes. We compare our method to the usage of artificial and real-international images, and the effects display the efficacy of our approach. Finally, we talk about capacity destiny guidelines for three-D scene reconstruction and the usage of GAN-based total strategies.

Endoscopic disc surgery requires a process of inserting a guide-needle to the target lumbar disc. And the insertion path is manually planned by drawing lines on the patient's skin while monitoring the fluoroscopic view of the lumbar. Such operative procedure inevitably exposes both surgeon and patient to the fluoroscopic radiation emitted from c-arm for a long time. To reduce the radiation exposure time, this study proposes a computer assisted operative planning method implemented by using computer vision and computer graphics theory. this method calculates the 3-dimensional path line of guide-needle from multiple triangular planes. Triangular planes can be obtained by analyzing 2-dimensional images of patient's disc in 3 different angles from rotationally movable c-arm. Additionally, a method of guiding robot's control based on the 3-dimensional needle path was developed by implementing the Hand-eye (end-effector and camera) calibration. Hand-eye calibration method calculates the geometric transformation matrix between the c-arm coordinate system and base of guidance robot coordinate system. the proposed system was then tested for its accuracy.
