this research proposes a simple approach to recognize resonate modes in rectangular dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) with machine learning (ML) techniques. the proposed method utilizes a convolutional neural network (CNN) with a focal loss function to classify various modes present in the antenna. DRAs with different dimensions are simulated with ANSYS HFSS to obtain their electric fields at various resonant frequencies. the resulting dataset comprises 700 fields, manually labeled according to their corresponding resonant modes. After training the CNN model using this dataset, it is capable of accurately classifying 12 low-order resonant modes in rectangular DRAs. the performance of the model is evaluated using a test set, where it achieves a recognition accuracy of 97.8%. © 2023 IEEE.

Single-image super-resolution (SR) tasks have achieved fancy success in recent years by leveraging deep convolution neural network (CNN). Although CNNs obtain powerful representation capabilities of reconstructing a high-resolution (HR) image from its corresponding low-resolution (LR) observation, it is hard to apply these accomplishments to real world for its large number of parameters that bring about huge computing resource cost. To solve this problem, many researchers turn their directions to lightening the network by delicate designs while keeping the performance in the high level. In this paper, we propose a new method to further reduce the parameters by using the new feature extraction paradigm called Mixer which only contains Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP). Compared to convolutional operations, Mixer operation has the same representation capabilities with fewer parameters. In this paper, three typical lightweight networks, where we replace the convolutional operation with Mixer, are used to show the excellent ability. Our experimental results demonstrate that Mixer can help these lightweight networks further reduce the number of parameters by up to 38% while keep their performance in the same level. © 2023 ACM.

the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the medical field has grown significantly in recent years, also with computer vision techniques, such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), gaining prominence in medical image processing applications. While CNNs have proven helpful in various medical tasks, there is a research gap in the automatic selection of Corneal Confocal Microscopy (CCM) images for diagnostic purposes. CCM could be used to screen for early stages of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN), the most common complication of diabetes. However, manually selecting CCM images for diagnosis is time-consuming and requires expertise. this paper aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a Genetic Algorithm (GA) in finding an optimized CNN architecture for accurate quality control of CCM images. the GA-based approach is compared to the widely used VGG16 architecture. the results demonstrate that the GA-evolved CNN architecture achieved a validation accuracy of 67.57 to 72.97%, outperforming VGG16. this research highlights the potential of GAs in optimizing CNN architectures for medical image classification tasks and indicates a first step towards automatically selecting CCM images for analysis. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Implicit neural representation (INR), sometimes also referred to coordinate-based representation or fitting, has gained the state-of-the-art performance in numerous research fields including computer vision and computer graphics due to the powerful continuous representation ability. Recent researches indicate that Fourier embedding is critical for INR to fit realistic images with high-frequency details. However, is Fourier embedding all we need for high-frequency coordinate (image) fitting? In this paper, we revisit the problem of coordinate fitting from a novel perspective of distribution mapping. Fourier embedding, as a preprocessing step of coordinate fitting, essentially performs the operation of mapping the uniform coordinate distribution to a normal distribution, and makes the learning of mapping function between two similar smooth distribution become easier. However, the number of discrete Fourier basis function affects the fitting performance dramatically and cannot be determined automatically. Based on the above analysis, a simple yet efficient INR coordinate fitting method is proposed in this paper, which demonstrates that the Fourier embedding is not the only way to improve INR. the proposed method only adds an element-wise layer normalization (ELN) module to the vanilla multi-layer perception (MLP) with ReLU activation. Experimental results on public database demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods using Fourier embedding. © 2023 ACM.

FlinkCEP, the Complex Event processing (CEP) API of the Flink Big Data platform, scales-out pattern detection to a number of machines in a computer cluster or cloud. the high expressive power of FlinkCEP's language comes at the cost of cumbersome parameterization of the patterns to be monitored, thus limiting usability. In this work, we build a novel, logical CEP operator that receives as input specifications of CEP queries in the form of extended regular expressions and automatically re-writes them to FlinkCEP programs. We also initiate a benchmarking effort on FlinkCEP. © 2021 ACM.

this paper proposes a W-band all-dielectric lens antenna with the characteristic flat-top beam. the lens loaded on the horn is composed of 10 concentric elliptical rings and a tapered matching layer. Its geometries are optimized by the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II). the lens antenna designed at 92-97 GHz achieves a beamwidth of 40° with ripple level less than 1 dB in E-plane and H-plane. In addition, the proposed antenna can be prototyped easily using 3D-printing technology with low cost. © 2023 IEEE.

the need for using English at Russian universities has increased. It makes the ability to write good quality academic texts a necessary skill. Despite the existence of various types of software which can check grammar and/or style of a text, there is no software focusing on linguistic characteristics of academic texts. the academic community accumulated knowledge is to be used to develop the software that is able to assess an academic text against a set of criteria, i.e. academic discourse markers, selected from academic style guides, handbooks and research articles. At the basis of the proposed approach is creating a repository of patterns which are used to extract the academic discourse markers. To build sufficiently accurate and most suitable patterns, it is necessary to analyze a corpus of scientific publications, which is a time-consuming task. the software for the lexico-semantic pattern extraction automation based on the analysis of text corpora is described. the results of experiments with developed software are presented.

To enhance the nervous system's performance, it is essential to move beyond traditional analytical methods from biochemistry and physiology and incorporate advanced mathematics, electrical engineering, and computer engineering. Utilizing hypergraph concepts and higher-degree circuits allows for a better understanding of neural networks as complex systems and reflects the dynamic interactions of neurons. this approach provides detailed insights into neural dynamics and develops optimization strategies to improve network efficiency. the study emphasizes the capacity of hypergraph structures to capture both parallel and sequential neural processing. It highlights the role of complex connections in cognitive functions like memory and decision-making. Simulations suggest that this hypergraph-based method significantly optimizes neural network parameters, enhancing performance in tasks such as pattern recognition. Ultimately, these insights could lead to more biologically relevant models and improve human-computer interaction and decision-making in various fields.

Receipts OCR has made a significant improvement on accounting, which has attracted much attention of the research community in the field of computer vision as well as natural language processing. In this paper, we solve the problem of extracting pieces of information on Vietnamese receipts including seller, address, timestamp, and total cost. We divided this into two problems: detecting locations of information and using an OCR model to recognize texts. In this paper, we propose a pipeline that employs Faster R-CNN as an information location detector and training a Transformer model for text recognition. through experiments, we achieved CER 32.19%, which is 9.65% higher than previous method CRNN, while pointing out the remaining statements and challenges of this problem.
