Social bookmarks are used to findweb pages drawing much attention. However, tendency of pages to collect bookmarks is different by their topic. therefore, the number of bookmarks can be used to know attention intensity to pages but it cannot be used as the metric of the intensity itself. We define the relative quantity of social bookmarks (RQS) for measuring the attention intensity to a web page. the RQS is calculated using the number of social bookmarks of related pages. Related pages are found using similarity based on specificity of social tags. We define two types of specificity, local specificity, which is the specificity for a user, and global, which is the specificity common in a social bookmark service.

Recently web services based on the HTTP and XML technology have become widely used, and application programs or mashups integrating such services have also proliferated. In order to support the integration process, we have developed a tool to convert user-defined function specifications written in XML to the corresponding user-defined functions loadable to PostgreSQL, an extensible relational database management system. Withthis conversion layer provided by the tool, multiple web services and relational databases can be integrated in SQL, andtherefore, integrated applications or mashups can be built quickly without being bothered by variety of web service interfaces defining the calling sequences and result data types. Moreover, even if one of the web service providers that a particular mashup depends on changes its service specification, the application does not need to be modified accordingly, when the corresponding function's calling interface remains intact by changing the specification of the function body. this property which we refer to as web service independence is quite important since web service interfaces may change without any previous notices, and so some management methodology is needed for mashups.

Traditional learning and teaching methods are still an integral part of many academic institutions. Will the implementation of e-learning material as an additional resource to normal lectures have an effect on a student's academic success? Senior students enrolled for the Network Systems III module at the Vaal University of technology (VUT) were introduced to e-learning material. A variety of different learning styles was combined to prepare the e-learning material. the activities of individual students withthe e-learning material were recorded using the Moodle learner management system. An empirical assessment of the log activities of all the students who usedthe e-learning content was done. Quantitative data concerning Moodle logs, time spent on learning material, including test and examination results, were analysed and compared to find possible correlations.

A 3d reconstruction and visualization framework from a sequence of 2d cross-sectional images has aroused extensive concern particularly in medical science and engineering. In this research, we design parallel reconstruction and visualization frameworks for medical data reconstruction and visualization. Reconstruction methods for medical data normally require high-performance computing. In this paper we make a web-based3d reconstruction service and present a parallel computing framework for real-time processing. the visualization framework design visualizes a generated3d model. Moreover, we implement a web-based3d medical data reconstruction and visualization application that integrates both proposed frameworks anddesign our framework integrated with X3dtechnology and a modular approach. the web-based X3d framework integrated with a modular approach can extend cross-platform and inter-application data transfer ability and support run-time architecture to represent and communicate 3d scenes and objects.

3d virtual world software is becoming a popular medium for entertainment, social interaction and commerce. To the best of our knowledge, there is no system available to facilitate the bridging between web applications and virtual world systems in the form of information sharing, data collection and control propagation. As a result, user experience in a web interface is not sensitive to state changes of virtual world avatars or objects. Similarly, a virtual world environment does not provide web context-rich user experience. We address this issue and propose a bridging and context sharing architecture between the web and virtual world applications such that web applications can control, monitor and collect information from artifacts in the virtual worlds, and vice versa. We also implementedthis architecture using existing web and virtual world technologies. Based on this implementation, we illustrate some novel applications and present a user study to illustrate the value of the system.
