this paper reports on a case study in which an at-size application is ported onto a commercially available processor array. Its purpose is threefold: (1) Determine the suitability of processor arrays for this kind of application. (2) Develop a runtime software infrastructure that supports streaming applications on processor arrays. (3) Gather data and insights into the resulting system performance and the factors that affect it. In this study, we port a video decoder onto the Parallella platform, a small credit-card sized board that includes a 16 core Epiphany processor array by Adapteva, along with a dual-core ARM processor, some programmable logic, and shared DRAM. We discuss the infrastructure required to execute the application on that platform and how the Epiphany architecture facilitated the construction of lockless distributed inter-core communication. In so doing, we build in part on a previous study on a much smaller example in [1]. [GRAPHICS] .

Hydraulic system is widely used in the ship, when the diameter of tiny particles in hydraulic oil exceeds 20μm it indicates that the abnormal wear occurred and the malfunction may cause. this paper uses the light blockage method, the microfluidic detection chip for hydraulic oil detection has been designed and fabricated, a simple and effective optical detection system is developed with the signal amplification and data collection to achieve the detection of tiny particles, and finally through the Java programming to count the number of particles in which the diameter is more than 20μm. the results of rapid detections on iron particles with diameter between 25μm and 38μm show the good performance of the detection system and prove that the method is feasible. © (2015) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Augmenting MRI-transrectal ultrasound-guided prostate biopsy with temporal ultrasound data: a clinical feasibility study

In recent years, fusion of multi-parametric MRI (mp-MRI) with transrectal ultrasound (TRUS)-guided biopsy has enabled targeted prostate biopsy with improved cancer yield. Target identification is solely based on information from mp-MRI, which is subsequently transferred to the subject coordinates through an image registration approach. mp-MRI has shown to be highly sensitive to detect higher-grade prostate cancer, but suffers from a high rate of false positives for lower-grade cancer, leading to unnecessary biopsies. this paper utilizes a machine-learning framework to further improve the sensitivity of targeted biopsy through analyzing temporal ultrasound data backscattered from the prostate tissue. Temporal ultrasound data were acquired during targeted fusion prostate biopsy from suspicious cancer foci identified in mp-MRI. Several spectral features, representing the signature of backscattered signal from the tissue, were extracted from the temporal ultrasound data. A supervised support vector machine classification model was trained to relate the features to the result of histopathology analysis of biopsy cores obtained from cancer foci. the model was used to predict the label of biopsy cores for mp-MRI-identified targets in an independent group of subjects. Training of the classier was performed on data obtained from 35 biopsy cores. A fivefold cross-validation strategy was utilized to examine the consistency of the selected features from temporal ultrasound data, where we achieved the classification accuracy and area under receiver operating characteristic curve of 94 % and 0.98, respectively. Subsequently, an independent group of 25 biopsy cores was used for validation of the model, in which mp-MRI had identified suspicious cancer foci. Using the trained model, we predicted the tissue pathology using temporal ultrasound data: 16 out of 17 benign cores, as well as all three higher-grade cancer cores, were correctly identified. the results show that temporal anal

Heterogeneous network (HetNet) deploying a number of small cells in a macro cell improves network capacity as well as data rate at hot spots and cell edges. the mobility management with HetNet is challenging due to its complexity. In this paper an efficient handover scheme is proposed considering the asymmetric characteristics of macro and pico cells in HetNet. the proposed scheme ranks the candidate cells for handover using a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) algorithm and the information on the movement of user equipment (UE). When the received power is too low, if the UE can detect a suitable target eNB of good quality, handover is triggered promptly even before the time-to-trigger window expires to avoid radio link failure. Even though the received signal from the serving cell is high enough for communication, handover is also triggered for the UE when the downlink SINR is below a threshold. the performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated by computer simulation and compared with two well-known handover algorithms with respect to the number of handovers per second, goodput per UE, and packet loss rate. the simulation with LTE-Sim reveals that the proposed scheme significantly enhances the goodput while reducing packet loss and unnecessary handover.

Understanding the relationship between pressure and rock physical parameters, such as acoustic velocities, absorption coefficients, elastic moduli, porosity is essential for exploring and exploiting of natural reserves. In this study petrophysical models are introduced which describe the relationship between acoustic longitudinal (P), transverse (S) wave velocities as well as quality factors and pressure. the governing equations of the models are based on the idea that the pore volume of a rock is decreasing with increasing pressure. To prove the applicability of the models, we measured P and S wave velocities in laboratory on sandstone samples by an automatic acoustic test system under uniaxial load. the loading of the samples were carried out by the Freely Programmable Interface module of the software DION 7. the velocities were measured automatically by the software GMuG/GL Test Systems PCUSpro. We applied 256-fold stacking to increase the signal/noise ratio. Acoustic velocities were measured by using the pulse transmission technique. By applying the programmed algorithm and the acoustic software the measurements have become completely automatic. On the other hand quality factor data set - published in literature - as a function of pressure was inverted too. After estimating the model parameters by joint inversion method, the velocities and quality factors can be calculated at any arbitrary stresses and the pressure dependent elastic moduli as well as loss angles can be derived. the quality checked joint inversion results showed that the misfits between measured and calculated data are small, the suggested petrophysical models can be applied well in practice.

this paper focuses on small target of sea surface detection in sea clutter. Firstly, it analyses the statistic of sea clutter. Secondly, three feature vectors (namely, RAA, RPH and RVE) are extracted, which is utilized to discriminate the sea clutter and targets, and then the time-Doppler curve is used to distinguish the multi-targets in order to finish the small target of sea surface detection. Finally, it analyses the trial data of some radar and shows that this algorithm can effectively distinguish the sea clutter and small target of sea surface. this paper provides a new approach for the ship-borne surveillance radar or marine radar to detect the small target of sea surface and antisubmarine warfare patrol.

the paper deals with the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) analysis of quasi-stationary regimes (with small variations of magnitude and harmonic contents) in three-phase systems. the analyzed data, acquired on stand, correspond to a driving system using chopper and DC motor. Unfiltered currents are included in the first data set, unlike those from the second set. the harmonic orders to be filtered (5,7,11,13 etc.) were determined using a FFT analysis. 10 levels decompositions using DWT were made, using Daubechy filters of length 8, implemented by 2 functions. "dwm" assumes that the analyzed signal is periodic, whilst "dwi" performs interpolations to estimate the first 6 values of the decomposed signal beyond its right edge. During analysis, FFT is applied over one period P, whilst DWT operates over 6 consecutive periods starting with P. the analysis concerns instantaneous and global power quality related quantities and provides possible explanations for the cases when differences appear between the results yielded by the various analyzed methods.

the development and miniaturization of electronic devices and components is pushing the system devices and their interconnecting interfaces to become even smaller. thus, reducing the size of receiver (Rx) and transmitter (Tx) chips plays an plays an important role in designing a small-size optical modules utilized in o/e and e/o converters. therefore, designing a small-area optical Rx may require intuitive solutions, such as building single-ended Rx and utilizing some of the advantages of differential Rx. Optical Rx should convert optical input signal to voltage output signal and provide sufficient gain and frequency operation for feeding to subsequent blocks including clock and data recovery circuit (CDR) and/or Serializer and Deserializer (SerDes). therefore, we have designed a small-area transimpedance optical receiver (TIORx) using regulated-cascode (RGC) as an input stage which converts input photocurrent to voltage signal. the RGC block is connected to post amplifying stages to increase the overall transimpedance gain of the TIORx. the post amplifying gain stages utilizes two intersecting active feedback in order to increase the frequency operation in addition to increasing the gain of the proposed TIORx chip. the TIORX module is designed in a 0.13 mu m CMOS technology and works up to 10 Gbps data rate. the TIORx chip core occupies an area of 0.051mm(2) with power consumption of 16.9 mW at 1.3 V. A measured 3-dB bandwidth of 6.9 GHz was obtained for the TIORx module with a transimpedance gain of 60 dB Omega.

Random missing observations in real-world inverse synthetic aperture radar (TSAR) imaging may appear due to the instability of the radar system. Under this circumstance, the signal of one range bin over the slow-time has limited samples. Using traditional range-Doppler algorithm, high-quality TSAR images for random missing observations cannot be obtained. Recently, a new non-iterative algorithm based on the combined robust statistics and compressive sensing (CS) theory has been proposed to efficiently recover a complete signal from a small random set of samples, showing robustness in the presence of noise [16]. It is also important to emphasize that non-iterative method is computationally simpler than the iterative signal reconstruction solutions, and thus more amenable to practical applications. therefore, based on the non-iterative robust signal reconstruction method, a new algorithm for TSAR imaging with random missing observations is proposed in this paper. the efficiency of the proposed approach is demonstrated on the examples with simulated and real data.

Scientific experiments and simulations produce mountains of data in file formats, such as HDF5, NetCDF, and FITS. Often, a relatively small amount of data holds the key to new scientific insight. Locating that critical information in these large files is challenging because existing solutions need significant user involvement in preparing the data, generating indexes, and answering queries. data management systems that support querying, such as SciDB, require a costly process of loading data from scientific data formats to these systems. the search results also need to be converted back to a format needed by the subsequent data analysis and visualization tools. these steps are time-consuming, tedious, and possibly error-prone. Toward providing efficient data management directly on these scientific file formats, we introduce a framework called Scientific data Services (SDS). SDS targets to provide efficient data management optimizations as services. In this paper, we introduce the design and implementation of one such service, the parallel querying service. To answer the queries efficiently, we transparently augment user data with bitmap indexes and ordered datasets. We design the querying service to manage these augmented datasets and to redirect queries automatically to bitmap indexes or to ordered datasets based on their availability and the expected query response time. the generation of bitmap indexes and sorted datasets and querying are parallelized to work on large supercomputers. We show that SDS achieves 22X, 55X, and 62X speedups compared to conventional full-scan approach of sifting through data in answering three queries from a plasma physics analysis application.
