the aim of this work is to investigate adversarial examples and look for commonalities and disparities between different adversarial attacks and attacked classifier model behaviours. the research focuses on untargeted, gradient-based attacks. the experiment uses 16 attacks on 4 models and 1000 images. this resulted in 64,000 adversarial examples. the resulting classification predictions of the adversarial examples (adversarial labels) are analysed. It is found that light-weight neural network classifiers are more suspectable to attacks compared to the models with a larger or more complex architecture. It is also observed that similar adversarial attacks against a light-weight model often result in the same adversarial label. Moreover, the attacked models have more influence over the resulting adversarial label as compared to the adversarial attack algorithm itself. these finding are helpful in understanding the intriguing vulnerability of deep learning to adversarial examples. Fitts’ law is a prediction model to measure the difficulty level of target selection for pointing devices. However, emerging devices and interaction techniques require more flexible parameters to adopt the original Fitts’ law to new circumstances and case scenarios. We propose Index of Difficulty for Eye tracking Applications (IDEA) which integrates Fitts’ law with users’ feedback from the NASA TLX to measure the difficulty of target selection. the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the necessity of contact-free interactions on public and shared devices, thus in this work, we aim to propose a model for evaluating contact-free interaction techniques, which can accurately measure the difficulty of eye tracking applications and can be adapted to children, users with disabilities, and elderly without requiring the acquisition of physiological sensory data. We tested the IDEA model using data from a three-part user study with 33 participants that compared two eye tracking selection techniques, dwell-time, and a multi-modal eye tracking technique using voice commands. When the Ecuadorian government put the country into quarantine as a preventive measure against the Covid-19 pandemic the country’s schools and colleges had been working normally up to March 2020. On March 13th, the University of Cuenca decided to suspend face-to-face classes and changed the system to virtual online teaching. Although the teachers and students changed the teaching-learning method from face-to-face to virtual, they were not prepared to continue their education in this new educational system, in which each student’s family had different mandatory elements (e.g., an Internet connection, computer, meeting solution). However, they continued the classes through meeting solutions to continue the school year through virtual classes but without any criteria to select the most suitable meeting tool. this paper evaluates two of the most commonly used meeting solutions for virtual university classes: Webex and Zoom. We used User Experience Questionnaire and Microsoft Reaction Cards to evaluate these solutions. the results showed that Zoom was significantly more attractive than Webex, although there was no significant difference between them in the classic aspects of usability or user experience. Blood smear image analysis is an essential task for many health related issues. Among the many blood structures present in these images, leukocytes play an important role in the detection of many diseases (such as leukemias), which can be detected by the amount, or abnormal aspect, of the leukocytes. To address this problem, this paper presents an unsupervised segmentation method for the nuclear structures in leukocytes. Our method uses color deconvolution to separate the dyes in different channels and a PSO algorithm to estimate an optimal kernel filter to combine local features in different stain channels to emphasize the leukocytes structures so that simple thresholding techniques are able to perform image segmentation. We also used a postprocessing approach based on morphological operators to refine the border of detected structures, thus improving our performance. We performed a comparison with different approaches found in literature using 367 images containing leukocytes and other blood structures and results demonstrated the superiority of our approach in terms of Jaccard index. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) have increasingly been used as tools in many tasks present in Precision Agriculture (PA). Due to the particular characteristics of the flight and the UAV equipment, several challenges need to be addressed, such as the presence of non-linear deformations in the captured images. these deformations impair the image registration process so they must be identified to be properly corrected. In this paper, we propose a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) architecture to classify whether or not a given image has non-linear deformation. We compared our approach with 4 traditional CNNs and the results show that our model achieves has an accuracy similar to the compared CNNs, but with an extremely lower computational cost, which could enable its use in flight time, in a system embedded in the UAV. Person re-identification is a vital module of the tracking-by-detection framework for online multi-object tracking. Despite recent advances in multi-object tracking and person re-identification, inadequate attention was given to integrating these technologies to provide a robust multi-object tracker. In this work, we combine modern state-of-the-art re-identification models and modeling techniques on the basic tracking-by-detection framework and benchmark them on heavily occluded scenes to understand their effect. We hypothesize that temporal modeling for re-identification is crucial for training robust re-identification models for they are conditioned on sequences containing occlusions. Along with traditional image-based re-identification methods, we analyze temporal modeling methods used in video-based re-identification tasks. We also train re-identification models with different embedding methods, including triplet loss, and analyze their effect. We benchmark the re-identification models on the challenging MOT20 dataset containing crowded scenes with various occlusions. We provide a thorough assessment and investigation of the usage of modern re-identification modeling methods and prove that these methods are, in fact, effective for multi-object tracking. Compared to baseline methods, results show that these models can provide robust re-identification proved by improvements in the number of identity switching, MOTA, IDF1, and other metrics. Heuristic Evaluation (HE) is a well-known method for assessing usability in Human-computer Interaction. Among Nielsen’s usability heuristics for HE,"Consistency and standards" heuristic (H4) is related to consistency, a relevant concept for usability. However, the description of this heuristic does not deal with some relevant aspects of the concept of consistency. therefore, the literal interpretation of this description can force some evaluators to search for another heuristic to associate with some inconsistency problems – a search that may or may not be successful. this paper is part of a research that questions if the description of this heuristic must be improved. In particular, this paper aims to understand how evaluators may behave when they do this literal interpretation during the execution of a HE. Our first step towards these goals was to analyze Nielsen’s heuristics in order to search if other heuristics than H4 also have consistency aspects. We also hypothesized how some evaluators may associate these heuristics with specific inconsistency problems. We noted that at least 5 heuristics (in addition to H4) have some aspect of consistency. Besides, we observed that it is possible to construct a logical reasoning that may associate inconsistency problems to one of these heuristics. We suggest that it is worth doing a discussion about extending the current description of the consistency heuristic to include more aspects of consistency, instead of allowing this literal interpretation to deviate evaluators from the expected interpretation of H4 heuristic. Since a growing number of parameters in deep learning model occurred, the overhead of inference performance is comparable to training, which promotes to various deep learning frameworks continually optimized for providing better inference performance. As one of the prevalent model tasks in recent years, super-resolution plays an essential role in the development of computer vision. Our study aimed to evaluate the inference performances between two most popular frameworks, TensorFlow and PyTorch. We selected eight representative super-resolution models in deep learning and calculated three metrics, inference latency, Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR), and Structural Similarity Index Measure (SSIM). For enhancing the reproducibility of our experiments, Open neural network exchange (ONNX) was introduced to convert trained models between TensorFlow and PyTorch. We also conducted experiments on both local and cloud platforms to ensure the reliable results. the results on local platform showed that the overall inference latency differences between two frameworks were up to $4 \%$, and the differences in PSNR and SSIM were within $1 \%$. However, noticeable differences persisted between the two frameworks in separate eight models and four datasets. the results of local platform were reproduced on cloud platform. Our findings can provide proposals for end-users when choosing frameworks between TensorFlow and PyTorch.

this paper explores the challenge of teaching a machine how to reverse-engineer the grid-marked surfaces used to represent data in 3D surface plots of two-variable functions. these are common in scientific and economic publications;and humans can often interpret them with ease, quickly gleaning general shape and curvature information from the simple collection of curves. While machines have no such visual intuition, they do have the potential to accurately extract the more detailed quantitative data that guided the surface's construction. We approach this problem by synthesizing a new dataset of 3D grid-marked surfaces (SurfaceGrid) and training a deep neural net to estimate their shape. Our algorithm successfully recovers shape information from synthetic 3D surface plots that have had axes and shading information removed, been rendered with a variety of grid types, and viewed from a range of viewpoints.

the authors identify ergonomic factors related to the composition, structure and typical functions in the process of taking into account the criteria for the protection of inventions when patenting technical solutions in the field of professional selection and training of operators and drivers of military and civil man-machine complexes. the article describes the ergonomic capabilities of selection methods and devices, technical results from the introduction of virtual, hardware-software and computer simulators for training welders, locomotive drivers, radar systems' operators, operator of remotely piloted aircraft, vehicles' mechanics-drivers. For the selection of patents in subclasses of inventions, criteria for expert evaluation of their ergonomics were first proposed based on such criteria as manageability, serviceability and *** total, three experts were involved, and the consistency of the solution (the concordance coefficient) during selection was w=0.67. In advanced research related to the construction of automated patent search systems, it is necessary to develop decisive rules for the selection of inventions. the authors of the article plan to develop criteria for the ergonomics of selected inventions for further analysis of promising systems for selecting and training specialists in such IPC categories as G09B9/00, G06F15/20 and A61B5/16. © 2020 for this paper by its authors.
