In this work we describe and analyze sequential and parallel algorithms for video coding using the wavelet packet decomposition. thereby we discuss "efficiency" in a two-fold manner: the first part of this p...

this paper reviews the processes involved in Natural Language Processing (NLP). It then demonstrates the various kinds of choices that need be taken during the execution of the word morphology, the syntactic text analysis, or text generation components. It compares the time complexity of traditional serial algorithms and examines the possible expected gain in some corresponding parallel counterparts.

Since their beginning from a NASA project around 1994, Beowulf Clusters become one of the most important class of highperformancecomputing system. Although this platform has been widely used for several years, it is still difficult to build a large beowulf cluster the reason is the lack of tools that allows people to effectively maintain the system and develop the applications. this problem significantly reduces the benefit gained from a beowulf systems. In this paper, the design of the next generation integrated environment for beowulf clusters called SCE (Scalable Cluster Environment) is presented. the goal of SCE project is to build a powerful, scalable, portable, and easy to use cluster environment. the paper discusses about the important issues in designing a good cluster environment and proposes the solution to these issues. SCE design has been used to demonstrate the ideas. Finally, the experimental results are presented to illustrated that while provides a flexible and portable environment, SCE can also provides a scalable, fast, and efficient cluster environment for users as well.

Beowulf clusters, on face value, offer the potential of a viable cost effective alternative for the provision of highperformancecomputing. In this paper we compare the performance of Beowulf clusters built from commodity "off the shelf" components in the support of major research and production codes, with current high-end hardware such as the IBM SP, Compaq AlphaServer SC and SGI Origin 3800. the results concentrate on the application area of computational chemistry. Benchmark data on six commodity-based systems (CS1-CS6) featuring Intel, AMD Athlon and Alpha CPU architectures coupled to traditional Beowulf interconnect, such as Myrinet and Ethernet, are presented. Furthermore, we provide performance data on systems utilising the Quadrics QSNet interconnect technology, and initial results from a prototype of the Cray Supercluster.
the growing needs for building complex real-time applications coupled with advancements in computing technology signify the importance of developing efficient algorithms for dynamic real-time systems. Dynamic real-tim...

the computational requirements for the new Large Hadron Collider are enormous: 5-8 PetaBytes of data generated annually with analysis requiting 10 more PetaBytes of disk storage and the equivalent of 200,000 of today's fastest PC processors. this will be a very large and complex computing system, with about two thirds of the computing capacity installed in "regional computing centres" across Europe, America, and Asia. Implemented as a global computational grid, the goal of integrating the large geographically distributed computing fabrics presents challenges in many areas, including: distributed scientific applications;computational grid middleware, automated computer system management;highperformance networking;object database management;security;global grid operations. this paper describes our approach to one of these challenges: the configuration management of a large number of machines, be they nodes in large clusters or desktops in large organizations.
