the majority of theories and models of social influence tend to focus on the social-behavioral level and implicitly discount the potential role of cognitive explanations to ground out social phenomena in cognitive operations. the present study describes a preliminary simulation of social influence and conformity using two possible cognitive mechanisms: the first a homophily-based model that weighs belief updating based on generating a latent trust magnitude, and the second is a novel similarity-learning mechanism that weighs memory retrieval via similarity. While the homophily model was able to capture both influence and conformity effects based on degree of initial strength in the belief and crystallization of the belief, the similarity-based model always conformed. Both models exhibited initial learning and larger belief updating while settling to a relatively-stable state over time. Future implications for modeling influence via cognitive factors are discussed.

modeling the behavior of complex agents is challenging. In social systems, agents have different motivating factors and goals that drive each decision. In some situations, though, we can observe the agent behavior and the outcomes while being at a loss on how to quantify the decision-making process. Imitation learning is a powerful tool to learn behavior without understanding reasoning. In this paper, we explore modern machine learning techniques to train models that imitate agents' behavior in social environments. this work continues and builds off of emerging work that merges social simulation and modern machine learning. We have shown that such surrogate models can learn heuristicallydriven agent behavior. We note that, however, these models do show fragility to changes in environmental dynamics.

Among the various aspects of the Unified modeling Language, state machines are utilized to model the dynamic behavior of reactive systems. In this paper we present a platform where we transform a state machine into a declarative model, implemented as a database of clauses in Prolog. To tackle the complexity of composite states, we propose an algorithm for flattening the state machine's representation. Both initial and flattened declarative models allow for querying on the quality attributes, the behavior and the well-formedness of the underlying machine. To complement the query-based analysis, we present a simulation process and we describe its automation and tool support. We demonstrate the analysis through a case study. the approach can assist software developers while performing validation of requirements.

this panel will bring a timely and overdue discussion to SBP-brims on computational social and behavioral modeling for social good. What's more, we will host a discussion on what it means to critically approach social good in a way that moves beyond discussions of bias and representation. During this panel, panelists will introduce themselves and positions on topics related to social good within computational behavioral and social modeling, and (along with audience members) proceed to discuss sub-topics, queries, and provocations. Chris Dancy will moderate the discussion and ensure an opportunity for interactive experience for all of those in attendance.

OSIRIS, Organization simulation In Response to Intrusion Strategies, is an agent-based simulation framework that models virtual organization composed of end user agents with complex and realistic behavior patterns. the purpose of OSIRIS is to predict and analyze the scale of cyberattack damage on the organization once targeted by cybercriminals with a consideration of organization members' properties, behavior patterns, and social relations. In this paper, we detail how we reflect real world organization environments and cyberattack scenarios to OSIRIS by illustrating our organization and cybercriminal design.

Virtual reality (VR) technology has transformed digital content experiences by providing immersive opportunities for users to explore virtual worlds. To accurately represent the intricate interactions between users and their virtual environments, it is crucial to effectively model objects, user and environment actions, as well as user interests and preferences. this paper proposes an ontology-based modeling approach for capturing user-environment interaction in a VR exhibition. By leveraging ontologies, which offer a formal representation of knowledge and define concepts, relationships, and rules within a domain, a structured framework can be established to capture the semantics of user behavior and environmental attributes. this approach presents several advantages, including standardized representation, interoperability, and compatibility across diverse platforms. Moreover, ontologies enable intelligent behavior modeling and adaptive interactions, enhancing semantic reasoning and inference capabilities. this paper delves into design principles, methodologies, and implementation considerations for developing ontologies that depict the dynamics of user behavior and environmental attributes. the research endeavors to contribute to the field of VR exhibition design, enabling personalized experiences for users.

Occupant behavior (OB) is one of the key determinants in building energy use. To acquire accurate and reliable Building Performance simulation (BPS) results, significant attention must be focused on the precise representation of OB in BPSs. the simplistic manner in which OB has usually been considered in BPSs, leads to a considerable performance gap between actual and simulated building energy use. Despite the presence of numerous review articles on various elements of OB, there is still a need for a thorough review that combines and evaluates recent studies in one article. In this review, the most recent research studies on different aspects of OB in BPS are aggregated, evaluated, and summarized. Available OB models and their application in BPS tools are outlined. A summary of the data collection methods utilized in OB modeling is provided. Common quantitative OB modeling methodologies in BPS are discussed. the primary uses, benefits, and shortcomings of each modeling methodology are explained. the available literature on the impact of various OB patterns and occupant interaction with building systems is assessed. In summary, this work presents the state-of-the-art OB models in BPS, allowing researchers and practitioners to select and implement appropriate OB models in accessible BPS tools.
